Origin of Snow Serpent's helmet design

Hey guys!

I'm a bit fascinated with the original Snow Serpent helmet. It looks somewhat Russian but I don't know why I think that. I realized recently that it is similar to Horror Show's helmet but with the added face shield.

Is there a real life equivalent to the Snow Serpent helmet and is it in fact Russian?

Hmm I googled "Russian helmet" and figured out Horror Show must be wearing a Russian tank helmet.

I think the Snow Serpent must be wearing the same helmet but with a face shield.

Now I'm getting somewhere. The Snow Serpents were clearly based on Russian paratroopers.

I'm guessing the face shield was just a made up addition that looked cool.

Also the Gurlukovich mercenaries from Metal Gear looked like a lot like Snow Serpents.

I remembered noticing the similarity years ago which gave me my first hint that the Snow Serpents must have been based on some actual Russian design.
