Sounds like flamebait to me!

Actually, I don't like football or soccer--I'm more of a baseball and hockey fan. No matter what the sport is though, I'd rather GI Joe and sports stayed separate. The only sports I want to see in Gi Joe is Bazooka's jersey. Slaughter's fine though, because WWF isn't a sport to begin with and the Sarge has a military theme.

Just a footbal player?!?!?

Growing up in Chicago, William "The Refridgerator" Perry was not "just" a football player. He was THE football player. He was THE MAN!!! He was big, he had personality, and he even scored a touchdown in Super Bowl 20.

Being a Bears fan, it was a dream come true for my favorite Chicago Bear to become a member of the Joes.

However, each year at training camp, he would usually be 30 lbs. overweight, so we all got a chuckle out of the whole Physical Training Instructor thing.

I never liked Sgt Slaughter until I got the Warthog. I loved the vehicle and the figure, in my mind it quintessentially represents the best of the JOe 80s era. Sgt. Slaughter became a real Joe at this point for me and ceased to be the failed wrestler and was now a top notch gunnery marine sergeant with an axe to grind with cobra.

I actually like the Sarge. I dont think of him as a wrestler, but a Joe. The only problem with Sarge was that Triple T. I never did like it!

The Sarge was always one of my favorite Joes (in my top 10 or 15, anyway).

I never was much of a wrestling fan as a kid but did watch a bit...So, the WWF thing never factored in much.

I just liked the figure and thought he was pretty cool in the cartoon.

I’m thinking he isn’t so much universally hated in the States. Sure, some people don’t like him (I've seen all the "I hate the sarge threads" too -- but that may not be the majority).

Most of the Joe collectors I know have a nostalgic outlook on him at least. And the vast majority I know like him, like most of the replies to this thread...

I was a fan of Sarge. I enjoyed his appearance in the Marvel book. Very tough.

no it doesn´t :) Soccer is still the most populair sport in the world.
But well I think the Joes need some fun, that+s why The Fridge came in.

Stay on topic, this thread isn't about soccer.
