my thought is overstock like they used for the old gi joe conventions. maybe these were just shipped to another country, for use like say the blizzards were here for razz ma taz or whatever that place was.

JeffreyKabal
07-28-2004, 01:42 PM
could be, it may even be sealed by someone to let ik look more rare or expansive. But then again, the fig is mint as can be. He must have been lucky to have this figure like that then. And the knive? why not with it's original acc. I also think it's a left over.
By the way, the plastic is pretty hard. Harder then my mib name your own "create a cobra", payload v2, track viper and dee jay mails ins.

I personally think it's been sealed by somebody. I've never came accross this and really don't think it's an original hasbro mail-in. If he had a spare one, mint, and he put it in a baggie with a knife and sealed it... I have a mip Skystriker with rock viper accessories. That was an original con item or something like that. Maybe he tried to 'match' this... More cash as people would get confused and bid more on it... His accessories are more rare than the figure itself.

I also think this is a fake. I just don't think there would be an error like that.

JeffreyKabal
07-28-2004, 02:16 PM
dunno, but why would it be an error?
Look at the European exclusive Blades who was released on the US conventions.
Their might be more of these "secrets" out there.
This COULD be one of them, I hope to find out.

i wouldn't dismiss this piece at all.

it could be a bag from some item cut the top neatly and then use it to pop a figure in and reseal, but it could also be like i stated a factory overstock item shipped to another country.

hard to tell from the pic, maybe get close ups of the sealed seams. also take a real good look at both seams yourself, do they look identical or do they look like they were made by 2 different machines?

drop me an e mail cc i wanted to ask u something but can't e mail u from here.

try this

http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MfcISAPICommand=ViewListedItems&userid=sjbm123toys&include=0&since=30&sort=3&rows=25

see this guy has sold kinda like 9 sealed mutts so they are defenitely NOT sealed by the seller

the language on the package is greek and reads

IMPORTER
K.ECONOMIDIS & co
DISTOMOU 38
TEL. 5249541
ATHENS
NOT SUITABLE FOR KIDS
UNDER 3 YEARS
BECAUSE IT CONTAINS SMALL PARTS
THAT CAN BE CHOKE EASILY
RETAIN THE PACKAGE
FOR FUTURE USE

I believe that they must be leftover stock - it s certanly not a mailaway offer as the one and only offer we had in greece was the super trooper. I had seen something similar in an oldstyle toystore in athens - a box full of sealed v1 charbroils without accessories (or maybe with one I don t remember). These must have been available during the end of the gijoe line in greece - street fighter period.

In any case I think that yojoe should be aware of the existance of this sealed variant!
Hey send your photo to the international section! =]

you guys get too imaginative at times .... who would get into the hassle of sealing a mint toy?!.......too suspicious also......

the knife is a knife like the ones that came with ninja force joes, also stated in the post u seen these (charbroil) during a time that street fighter figures (which use these knife molds) were released. deffinatly looks to be overstock!

as for people saying deiffernt things it's all speculationso u have to look at all ideas, some guys will do do things to scam others weather its far fetched or something easy. just to get a buck or get people clamoring for more.
sometimes u have to throw out all options to get one that looks true.

your statement about the figure u seen sealed around the time with the street fighters being released in greece, and the fact that the knife in the mutt bag is a street fighter (well at that time was being used by street fighters) molded knife, clearly give the figure validity and is almost 100% proof that these were over stock. can i be wrong of course but i'm just throwing 2 and 2 together!

I'm going to throw my hat in with the pot of those who beleive that this is just an overstock piece that was used in some sort of promotion, be it mail away or otherwise. There's all kinds of new stuff turning up in this hobby, especially foreign pieces...all it takes is a little investigation on the part of the more dilligent people is this community to find out exactly where the stuff came from by researching foreign paperwork, etc. To automatcally dismiss something new as fake is just lazy.

Cobra island Survivor, i'm curious, are you 100% sure that there were no other mail away offers in Greece? Not that i doubt you at all...it just seems strange that there was only one. Were there any breakfast cereal or similar type promotions in Greece that you're aware of? I know that Greece didn't see a widespread release of GI Joe items but that's another possibility to look into.

It's Mutt's brother, named Jeff.

Very cool find. I want one of these. Mutt has always been in my top 10 favorite characters/figures. Does he not come with Junkyard? He'd look good with the brown Junkyard that comes with the 2004 Convention Tiger Force Mutt.

I'm going to remain open minded. I have no reason to think this figure is a fake. That would be very cool if this was something new that us joe collectors have missed for many years.

Actually,I bought these from a toyshop in Athens that specialises in old toys.
All the Mutt figures I bought were sealed by,my guess is,the company that imported them in Greece. As far as I know this is a Greek exclusive.
I am not sure, but they must have come out in the early 90's and there were more figures sold sealed in the exact same baggie as I do have a few more different ones.Mutt was the only one I actually found in quantity.

I didn't even think about that! I need to put more thought into my random naming! Someone needs to come up with a better name so we can refer to them easier, like the Pimp Daddy Destro.

In other news wizard world chciago was not worth the price in going.

You should have seen the the dealers a batch of scum and villany.

Its a sad day in the collectors market when figures hit crazy prices.

Looks to be a new poster...

7 posts and he's already nailing Curt to the wall...

Not to take this too off topic, but I found Wizard World Chicago to be well worth my money.

Anyhow, Curt, please keep us in the loop on what you find out with these Greek Figures.

My thoughts are, promo figures from the late 80's early 90's based on what figures are bagged.

They kind of remind me of the old Chuck E Cheese bagged figures.

If your allowed to say, where did you pick them up? Might help in determining their origin.

from what i have gathered thus far on these items they are/were a greek promotional tool to get gijoe toys moving in that country in the early 90's

until i have more info or perhaps some paperwork showing these items i am going to remain open minded

i acquired these items from a seller in greece btw

Curt,

How many do you think exist?

BIGFAN
08-20-2004, 03:59 PM
to be honest steve i have no clue

remember all those figs that cmitoys.com had for sale a long time ago mib? those were american counterparts to these greek figs..basically salesman samples from overstock

so who knows how big a push they made in greece with these figures..i do find it odd some of the figure choices we have seen thus far and the weapons they matched them with

like that shadow ninjas slice with the duke gun? very odd pairing there..basically a 1994 fig with a 1983 accessory

so ultimately there is no real way to know how many exist unless or until the salesmans paperwork or a hasbro sales catalog surfaces with them in it

Does anyone have any information as to Gijoe toys being released in any way in Greece? The Greece section of the Yojoe International archive doesn't seem to have any pics of items that have Greek specific wording, etc.

What I can add to the knowledge of Joe's available to Greece, is minimal. I have a carded Battle Corps Destro Version 3, which lists the U.K., Portugal, and Greece distributors of the Gijoe line. The Greek distibutor info is almost 100% written in Greek. This is the only English noted:

"Distributed in Greece by Hasbro Hellas S.A. ..."

Pictured on the back are Heavy Duty, Grunt, Snake-Eyes, Cobra Commander, Snow Serpent, Desert Scorpion, Eel, Incinerators from Series 10, and all of Series 11.

Hope this input adds to this hunt for information.

Carded GI Joe items where in my mom's hometown when I lasted visited Greece back in 1992. The only thing I can remember was seeing figures released in from 1988/1989 domestic line. As for the type of writting on the packaging, you try and remember something 12 years ago lol. But they must of had some hellas writting on the back of the cards for marketing.

Does anyone have any info on the El Greco toy company from Greece and if they perhaps had anything to do with GI Joe over there? All i know is that they had a couple of factories and they were quite short-lived however, they did produce and distribute My Little Pony in Greece which was of course, Hasbro's girl line which was concurrent to GI Joe...

Might be an interesting place to start looking...
