The Poll question should read: (read my whole post before you vote !!!) Which Japanese translation of SNAKE-EYES do you prefer?



Okay, here's the deal. When I was a kid I used to wonder why there was a G.I. JOE character that had a COBRA-esque Code Name, and why a COBRA character had a JOE-esque Code Name. I'm referring to SNAKE-EYES and STORM SHADOW. STORM SHADOW's Code Name fit even better as a JOE Code Name once Desert Storm transpired. Plus, it wasn't the norm for a good guy to wear black (unless you were Chuck Norris), and a bad guy to wear white. Thus, I created a Parallel JOE/COBRA Universe. An alternate reality in which SNAKE-EYES and STORM SHADOW switched lives/roles. SNAKE-EYES became Japanese, and STORM SHADOW became caucasian with blue eyes and blonde hair. Since the Code Name STORM SHADOW was an English translation of his last name, ARASHIKAGE, I translated SNAKE-EYES into Japanese. There were two Japanese words I found for "Snake"; "Sune-ku" & "Hebi". I found one Japanese word for "Eyes"; "Metsuki". That gave me the two choices I listed above, for an alternate last name, that I want everybody to vote on. Today, I created some alternate File Cards. Let me know what you think about this crazy idea:

Also, JINX is now cousin to SNAKE-EYES, and her last name would be either Sunekumetsuki or Hebimetsuki. Plus, in my little Alternate Reality I still wanted SNAKE-EYES and SCARLETT to get together. So, they played out a "Romeo & Juliet" kind of story. Plus, STORM SHADOW ends up with JINX. Which is fine now, since they aren't related. Crazy, huh?

You can put so much imagination into it. Kids just don't have that any more....

Sunekumetsuki is better

I say use Hebimetsuki. In issue #118 (I think) Snake Eyes is at a hotel and recieves a phone call. He is referred to as "Mr. Hebime". Pretty cool.

But don't you think it looks weird for snake eyes to have a cobra logo on his filecard! It just doesn't feel right maybe it is a habit to see snake as a Joe.

Ah, yes. You refer to the mythical Japanese legend about an eight headed giant serpent, called Yamata no orochi.
