Alright Everyone...

Some word might have spread earlier on how I have finally completed my GI Joe Vintage Loose Figure run from 1982 - 1994...

I have every figure from 1982 - 1994 (minus odd varients or bizzare convention figures).

My goal I set about 6 years ago (when I was 18), was to collect every figure from 1982 - 1994. The rules were simple, ST/SW 1982-1983 figures counted as the same (so I only needed one of either one), since they basically look the same, varients didn't count (this included Starduster version A,B,C & Steel Brigades A,B,C,D) I only needed one of each type since they too basically looked the same. The Gold Head Steel Brigade did however, count as a figure for me, since he came out much later than versions A - D, plus I basically view this as a v2 for the Steel Brigade. Convention figures, like the UK repaints, or the DeSimone repaints didn't count either.

Basically, I my goal was to collect 1 of each unqiue figure from the regular run of GI Joes 1982 - 1994.

Since I'm in college and don't make an awful lot, I set this goal to be reached by the time I was 30. I however, blew this goal away... with 6 years left to spare. Mostly in part, due to all the help I got from people here on the boards.

Well... Finally to the important part that you've all been waiting for...The contest... To show my thank you to everyone at the boards for helping me achieve this goal... I am going to run a contest... It's a very simple one...

How to Play:
Guess how many figures from my 1982 - 1994 figure run cost me $10+.

Who will win:
The person who comes the closest will win. If more than 1 person guesses the right number, I will do a random drawing of those names.

When will the contest run:
The contest will run from now until Nov. 30, 2004, 5:00 PM CST. I will declare a winner that evening and post it to the boards the next day.

Shipping:
If you live in the US, I will take care of all shipping and you'll get the prize at no cost. Anyone outside of the states may play and if they win, I ask that they pay for any shipping charges above $5.

The Prize:

1 1984 Missile Defense Unit (Near Mint in Near Mint Sealed Box) (http://www.yojoe.com/vehicles/84/missiledefenseunit/missiledefense_box.shtml)

(I'll post a picture of the actual one later...)

********UPDATE:********
1.) The question as been asked if my collection is MOC or loose. My collection is entirely loose. 75 - 80% of them are mint, and all the rare ones are mint.

2.) More claification is needed pertaining to the word "complete". Some people have asked if the entire set is complete as in, all figures have their weapons, or is the entire set complete, meaning I have all the figures. I guess I should have made this more clear. Not all the figures are complete, I would guess 80 - 90% of them are however complete. The exact number of figures that cost more than $10 however, will be determined on how many figures themselves cost me $10, reguardless of weapons, filecards and etc...

E.g. If I got a Starduster missing stuff for $15, and a Viper for $9 missing a gun, and later I bought the gun for $2, the Starduster would count, but the Viper would not. Basically it comes down to when I bought the figure. Did the deal for a figure itself cost $10+ (not piecing it together with future deals).

3.) Also, question was asked about trades... Trades for figures do count IF, the stuff I traded to obtain the figure amounted to more than $10 my cost. Meaning, if I traded a bunch of comics at a value of $25 for a $25 figure, but the comics really only cost me $9, then the $25 figure I got really only cost me $9 and does not count.

Sorry for all the confusion. I guess I should have thought this through a lot harder before I posted. Anyhow, again, if you want to change numbers based on this new information, you may. Actually, any number you pick can be changed and editted before the deadline and I'll still except it. Once the deadline hits, then all numbers will be final.

Thanks to all who enter, good luck and let the guessing begin!

The correct answer was....

3!

Yup, plain old 3... RotterdamTerrorCrops (aka Neal) you are the winner!

Neal guessed 3 right on the dot.

So you guys want to know what the 3 were?

1983 Silver Pads Grand Slam ($15)
1992 Gold Head Steel Brigade ($67)
1989 PP Officer ($12)

Everything else in the collection was either given to me as a gift, cost me $10 or less, and any trade I've taken part in, never cost me more than $10 my cost for a figure.

Anyone wanting to challenge this, go ahead and name the figure and I'll give ya the story on how I got it for $10 or less...

Neal please e-mail me at gbpackrat@aol.com so we can make arrangements to get this prize you way.

Thanks all for the helped complete this collection and thanks all who entered the contest.

how did you score a snake eyes version 1 and 2 and storm shadow version 1 and 2 for under 10 bucks?

Snake Eyes v1 -
I scored him for free! My father is a night foremen and one of his workers once was trying to kiss up to him. He had heard that I collected GI Joes (this was back in my earlier collecting years...I think I was roughly 15 or 16). Anyways, this was the only figure he still had kept from his childhood, and hearing that I collected them, he gave the figure to my father to give to me.

Snake Eyes v2 -
Was scored at a garage sale for $2 (figure only) when I was 18. I then scored another one recently for $5 (this time complete w/ filecard) this last spring.

Storm Shadow v1 -
I had a rough version from my childhood. I believe when I got it as a kid, it was from a garage sale and I got it for a quarter (figure only). Then recently, I was able to upgrade him for $5 at the same garage sale I got the snake eyes v2 at. Again, with this figure, he was complete and w/ filecard.

Storm Shadow v2 -
He can easily be scored in most lots since he was produced in '88, and I'm pretty sure I nabbed him for $2 or $3 in a lot with other figures or ebay, or when I was buying out a figure collection from someone on yojoe.

Anyone else got any figures they want to inquire about?
