View Full Version : What do you think about grading loose figures??
gradingtoysdotcom 12-14-2004, 01:30 PM Do any companies grade loose figures? Does AFA? What are you thoughts on grading loose figures?
Please let me know your thoughts on this matter, any info you have will be great! Im thinking about adding this service to my new site and wanted to know the pros and cons! Please no bashing! I just want info positive or negitive. Any info you have will determine how I will go about setting this service up.
Thanks.
ps. Im not going into any details so please dont ask any questions about the new site, in time everyone will see. Im just looking for thoughts on grading loose figures and how as a collector would view this service IF it were provided.

I am still strongly against it. If I want to never be able to touch my loose figures, I would be better of collecting MOSC/MISB.
The majority of the people that would benefit from this service are dealers who want to get more $ for their loose figures.
I think most collectors on this board who have loose figures want to have access to them so we can get our dirty little paws on them.
Play, dio, creative display, throw around - these are all things that would be gone in the loose graded world.
thorn 12-14-2004, 02:28 PM yeah , it seems like a pain overall-
what i think might be pretty nice would be some sort of good refernce-
like a pics of figures in what all could agree were the varying degrees of
C- for loose figures-
like this much wear equals this or something..
maybe a few people would want to buy graded loose, bt it does seem like mainly a ploy to increase prices. plus the cost of grading added in.

Fully agree with that.
You got a good card with AFA but still the o-ring can break. Their goes your 5200 USD for such a nice afa rated CC MOC.

gunless 12-16-2004, 02:20 PM I would say maybe if the highest tier was like 5.99 , it might be worth it. Only because if I'm going to buy or sell it, I might want it graded to ensure the quality of what I'm getting or let people know the quality of what I'm selling. the expectation would be to open it though, or else why not purchase a moc figure.
thunt4 12-16-2004, 07:52 PM Ok not being mean but asking this just as a normal question but what references do you have? Are you on ebay at all? I know you are new to yojoe but heres the dilema with me. How should i feel safe sending my figures to you when you are a new guy? I mean you could get 1000 figures and take off on us. I know afa takes over a month to get items back so thats plenty of scam time there. What form of reference do you have? I think another thing is what all will you be grading or how would you be grading a figure? Thanks

C-130loadmaster 12-17-2004, 02:20 PM Did'nt we go over this once already? When it comes to AFA, they grade the actual box or card plain and simple. The toy itself plays no part in the grading process as far as I'm concerned. The toy that is being graded is always sealed so you know it's in C-10 condition. Since AFA is all about grading the package and not the toy, I cannot see what the point would be of grading loose toys. It really makes no sense to me to grade and seal up in a plastic case something that is no longer in it's original package.

Not exactly true.
A figure can easily not be C-10 and still be sealed on the card.
And AFA does grade the figure as well. If you look at the subgrades of an AFA graded figure now, there is a C grade for the card, a B grade for the bubble and a F grade for the figure.
RotterdamTerrorCorps 12-17-2004, 02:42 PM People, just let the guy give it a try... OK, this small survey has already showed very clearly there is not really any interest in the product, but if he really wants to try it, let him go do it!
My prices will be better then AFA!
Basic marketing: when customers don't see use in a product, price will not save you! Price should be the last reason why people choose you and not your competition.
Most of the collectors ive sampled this idea, hate it. But there will be a small amount of collectors who will like something different in there collections.
Something different in their collections? Without acceptance from the general public your product will be nothing more than: "Some guy has sealed my stuff in a bag and told me it is 83/100!"
