View Full Version : Explain your avatar
Navajo 02-12-2005, 10:15 PM True, some are pretty much straight forward. But some areint'...like Deogg's...the qb, and Thorn's..well I really don't even know what it is! lol Anyways, sorry if this has been asked before, but I'm just curious.
Oh, yeah, I picked Spirit...well I don't think it's too tough to figure out, because I'm an indian.
Thanks
ken
danyanda 02-12-2005, 10:22 PM Why not Airborne? he is actually Navajo (Navaho?), while Spirit's tribal ancestry is not revealed.
Back to the avatars, I picked Scarlett because I have always had a major fanboy crush on her. Plus someone was cool enough to make avatars since I seem to be technologically impaired when I try to do it myself.
sinnister 02-12-2005, 10:23 PM I requested Grunt from Dan mainly because he was the first figure I got. I got him and Zap the same day with the APC and he has always been one of my all time favorite Joes.
KrymsynGardImmoral 02-12-2005, 10:50 PM Cobra Commander kicking a puppy. 'Nuff said. Ain't nothin' better than that.
viperguy 02-12-2005, 11:03 PM From A japanise Game Cube video Game
the joe bandit 02-12-2005, 11:17 PM Because the Cubs rock, and I am getting in the spirit for the upcoming baseball season!
Joeczar 02-12-2005, 11:30 PM Mine is an alien I sculpted as part of an entry I made for the 2002 GI Joe convention in Norfolk. It was a 12" set I made based on an Adevtnure Team set I came up with called "Dark Skies Over Roswell" I sewed a suit for a 12" Land Adventurer Joe and made equipment based on him finding a crashed ufo in the desert. I guess I chose him for that deer in the headlights look he has on his face.
danielmd06 02-12-2005, 11:34 PM I picked Snake-Eyes v1 because this was the very action figure that brought me into Joes in the first place (back in the first grade!). Also, because he was my favorite cartoon character, and because after reading every single issue of the Marvel comics I only liked him more than before. Finally, the v2 version was the first (and only) version I owned until the late 80's when v3 came out--thus, the v1 became my "grail" for years. Plus, the swivel v1 is the coolest release of any Snake-Eyes figure ever. :D
Ann G 02-12-2005, 11:57 PM I have 3 cockatiels. This one is a common gray. Squaeker is my balding common grey noisy cockatiel that I have threatened to send to BigFan if he ever sends me packing peanuts again. So this avatar is a reminder to him....bah..just kidding..basically I love my birds and it was proudly um..err..ripped off the American Cockatiel Society Logo.
Hector the Collector 02-13-2005, 12:27 AM I picked the v1 BAT, because it's my favorite army building figure!! :-)
Hector
thebigzakbowski 02-13-2005, 02:20 AM mine is a famous russian sign that says
"Terrorism is a disease. Meet the Doctor. Spetznaz Warning: Taking hostages may be dangerous to your health."
The rampant rumor was that Hamas took a Soviet attache hostage. The next morning Hamas found the bullet-riddled body of one of their members on their doorstep with a note attached that read, "Two a day until we get ours back."
Nations with more experience say the reprisals must be harsher, more merciless, more focused on those responsible - and less publicized. Terrorists, being ruthless, respect ruthlessness and they get the message no matter how privately it is delivered.
For example, the United States never retaliated for Hezbollah's car bombs that killed 300 Americans at the U.S. Embassy and Marine barracks in 1983 and the group's subsequent kidnapping of 17 American hostages, among them Terry Anderson of the Associated Press and Coloradan Thomas Sutherland.
The Russians, who lost three diplomats to Hezbollah in the early days of Lebanon's Shiite reign of terror, did retaliate. Whether the KGB did the "wet work" or contracted it out to freelance assassins, of whom there were plenty in Beirut at the time, dead Shiites started showing up all over the city, castrated and horribly tortured.
Hezbollah never targeted the Soviet again.
dragun316 02-13-2005, 03:05 AM Mine is a vidcap of Exidor from "Mork & Mindy"
I just like using unique avatars that no-one else would ever THINK of using! LOL :D
Once I get familiar with how to make animated GIF's, I'll have a new one! ;)
Roadblock_1187 02-13-2005, 07:25 AM Roadblock Roadblock i think yall ell get it Rb was always one of my favs throught the series & especially the movie
statesofeuphoria 02-13-2005, 08:13 AM Mine is of the mooninite Ignignokt from Aqua Teen Hunger Force. One of the funniest shows on TV.
Snake-eyes01 02-13-2005, 02:27 PM Napolean Dynamite! SWEEET! :D
dmurray 02-13-2005, 09:15 PM i like sharks..:D
Desert Rat 157 02-13-2005, 09:27 PM Major Bludd was on the cover of issue #17 which kick started me into collecting Joe. Also he was the first Cobra figure I ever got
3idmp 02-13-2005, 09:33 PM I was an MP in the Army for 5 years. I took the name 3idmp (3rd Infantry Division Military Police) after a buddy of mine who was in the 2id took on the name, 2idmp. So I stole his idea. Since Law is one of the better known MP's on the Joes, and his picture is cool, I figured what the heck.
Evil Ryu 02-14-2005, 07:58 AM Ultimate Warrior. I've been a big Pro Wrestling fan all my life and He was my favorite growing up.
captainterrebonne 02-15-2005, 03:39 PM Keel-Haul I have been running boats all my life and will hope to have my Third Mate Unlimited license within the next year or so. Once I have that, I will be able to run ships too. Not to mention I am an avid chess player as Keel-Haul is.
darkstar 02-15-2005, 07:04 PM Johnny (William Zabka) was my favorite character from Karate Kid
Cobra Kai never die!
Deogg 02-15-2005, 07:26 PM Mine's of Charlie Frye, Quarterback for the Akron Zips, slated to go late first-early-to-mid second round of the NFL Draft, and Willard OH born and raised. Hence why my location is what it is.
There's a pic of me and Charlie on my yahoo profile (username: reignman_25)
EDIT: Charlie has since been drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the 2005 NFL Draft.
The Faceless Master 04-16-2006, 06:17 PM i wanted to post a thread of Explain your Avatar
but after a 2sec search, THIS topic already existed
I just find it really interesting that after a year
most of the posters on this thread have NOT changed their avatar at all
since there is an influx of newbeez, plz share -
Why did you choose THAT particular avatar?
I change it about every six months - so this one is close to having run it's course. It started as some cool concept art I found in the archives. A couple months ago, I found a real simple gif animator & started playing with it, & this is the result.
Urban Saboteur 04-16-2006, 06:35 PM My avatar is a quick pic of my favourite character from the GI JOE movie. I always felt NE didnt get any respect for letting the sarge beat him in the films so along with the NEF member name I chose the NE custom avatar to go with it.
N3M
Red Sox 04-16-2006, 07:39 PM <---------- We're gunnin' for another title in '06 Baby!!!:D :D
Patrick A. Riley 04-16-2006, 07:58 PM I simply saw this scan of Air Viper on JMM's G.I. Joe Comics Home Page (http://www.myuselessknowledge.com/joe/gihome2.html) and thought it was cool looking. I had yet to read any of the comics when I chose this to be my avatar
RAS ONE J 04-16-2006, 08:25 PM My license plate :)
The Real Destro 04-16-2006, 08:53 PM When I seen the episode of gijoe where Lady Jay stayed at a castle and Destro told the story of his ancestors I just became hooked on him.
So he is my favorite joe charactor then Baroness. But when I signed up for the board I needed a avator. So I took a drawing of Destro someone did and took some box art and added my touch to it.
GBPackRat 04-16-2006, 09:15 PM Pretty simple...
Shipwreck was my first GI Joe given to me on my 6th Birthday.
Never forget your roots.
Tanner
FireFox91 04-16-2006, 10:09 PM I just picked mine from the ones available from JoeCustoms.com. I like Cobra troopers and I like aircraft. So the Cobra Trooper flying the CLAW is good for me. I figured I would make my avatar the same on all the Joe boards I visit (which is really only 2) just for the sake of identity.
carnage717 04-16-2006, 10:12 PM Used to be Huge Spiderman Fan, Carnage was one my favorite Villians along with Venom. When I started doing some online gaming I choose Carnage since a friend of mine was already using Venom. I found this pic searching the internet and thought it was cool so I have been using it ever since. I used on just about every board I go to.
Brad
Snake-eyes01 04-16-2006, 11:19 PM I try to do a Holiday themed one around each Holiday, but my main one is a Morrow Warrior from the AWESOME Heroscape game! (I'll change it back to the Morrow Warrior tomorrow & it will stay until the next Holiday!) :D
The Faceless Master 04-16-2006, 11:26 PM I try to do a Holiday themed one around each Holiday, but my main one is a Morrow Warrior from the AWESOME Heroscape game! (I'll change it back to the Morrow Warrior tomorrow & it will stay until the next Holiday!) :D
YA KNOW, your avatar was actually one of the ones I have been
wondering about!! :p
Snake-eyes01 04-16-2006, 11:35 PM YA KNOW, your avatar was actually one of the ones I have been
wondering about!! :p
LOL! Now you know & knowing is half the battle! GI JOE! :D
GIJoeCollector 04-17-2006, 11:53 AM I tend to change my avatar somewhat frequently, so I will just keep updating this post to give the latest explanation of my avatar with the most current first.
* A sketch of the character Wolf from Brian Pulido's Lady Death Comic.
* Changed again, this time it is a portion of a Calvin & Hobbes comic strip in which Calvin is bathing in the toilet. :p
* Got tired of the clown button, so I went with this pic. Any guess who it is? When I first saw this (the original pic has his wife), it didn't click right away, the faces seemed familiar, but I just couldn't place them. It's Bill Clinton from his hippie days. I don't really know why I chose this, it was just a funny pic. I will probably get tired of it soon and change it again.
* I have changed my Avatar again. This time it is a button that says "Can't Sleep, Clowns Will Eat Me". I've been saying that for years (since a nightmare at about 5 years old) and my mother sent me this pic the other day, so I thought I would give it a go. :D
* I have changed my Avatar. It is now a scan of I Ching Image 3, which means 'Chaos'. I have this framed, along with another image from the I Ching meaning 'Crisis & Opportunity'. I hang these in my office (when I am employed), as reminders. Kind of a 'Goos Frah Bah' thing.
Chaos - Where brilliant dreams are born. Before the beginning of great brilliance there must be Chaos. Before a brilliant person begins something great, they must look foolish to the crowd.
Crisis & Opportunity - Opportunity is always present in the midst of crisis. Every crisis carries two elements, danger and opportunity. No matter the difficulty of the circumstances, no matter how dangerous the situation... at the heart of each crisis lies tremendous opportunity. Great Blessings lie ahead for the one who knows the secret of finding the opportunity within each crisis.
* (original) My Avatar pic is the Action Force Cobra Logo. I just chose this as it was the only logo I had that would fit without any modification. I have been planning to replace it, but I've just been lazy I guess. I already have this on a few other boards, so I just haven't wanted to mess with changing all of them yet.
Bigtattoo 04-17-2006, 03:26 PM Mines self explanatory. My favourite fig and one we couldnt get over here when it first came out. (which made me want it even more!)
I actually feel a little guilty having this when theres a Lowlight on this board.
starscream2 04-17-2006, 05:08 PM love him couse he's star to and miny more off my faves joes.
Pluse love to see a fig of him in that outfit. It looks so cool.
SoulcatcherX 04-17-2006, 09:56 PM I use Jean Grey because I'm a sucker for red-heads and she is one of my favorites X-Chicks. Dark Phoenix Saga is the best comic story ever penned in my opinion, so it was sorta natural for me to gravitate towards her in that aspect (I love bad girls :p ). Throw in an awesome piece of artwork and simple text addition (SCX just short for my name) from PSP and that resulted in my current avatar.
Deadshot 04-18-2006, 12:24 AM Weeeelllll I like Toxo Vipers... ( enough to have an army of 80 so far).. so that Pretty much sums up my Avatar. Sides Toxos need props too, man it takes some guts.. ( or being driven by gunpoint) to wade into a toxic area wearing suits made by the lowest bidder.
Dakemesh 04-18-2006, 01:12 AM Because he's making a funny face... or has gas. Both of which are perfectly normal for me. :D
Lowlight 04-18-2006, 02:13 AM Mines self explanatory. My favourite fig and one we couldnt get over here when it first came out. (which made me want it even more!)
I actually feel a little guilty having this when theres a Lowlight on this board.
Don't feel guilty. I like seeing the Lowlight love spread around. ;)
Mine is my firstborn; Ace. (He was nicknamed Ace BEFORE I got back into collecting Joes. I'm not that obsessed) Ain't he super? :D
The Faceless Master 04-18-2006, 09:29 AM I use Jean Grey because I'm a sucker for red-heads and she is one of my favorites X-Chicks.
That is Jean Grey???
thats a fantastic pic of her!!
Weeeelllll I like Toxo Vipers... ( enough to have an army of 80 so far)..
WHOA, 80??? All American release
or did you mix Funskoll in there?
Deadshot 04-18-2006, 11:12 AM 80 All Domestic release... I also have one MOC from Spain, 1 Moc From Italy and 3 funskool ones.. ( one moc 2 loose)
Deogg 04-18-2006, 01:43 PM Ok, new avatar:
Bob the Enzyte Guy!!!!!!!
*If you've seen the Enzyte commercials, you KNOW how dang funny they are!*
I used to play Half Life online under the username EnzyteBob.
Xerofall 04-18-2006, 04:03 PM I turned off my ability to see avatars because I kinda got sick of seeing Jeff's animated one. I dispise animated avatars.
Mine is easily recognizable, hopefully. I just photoshopped the Hollywood sign with the letters of my screen name.
:D
Fabio 04-18-2006, 04:36 PM One of my "things-to-do-before-I-die" is to see an SR-71 in person. I am truly fascinated by the Blackbird! :D
yojoebro82 04-18-2006, 05:13 PM Early Marvel GI Joe comics are cool.
The original team is cool.
Flash is cool.
My avitar is cool
bigdaddydestro 04-18-2006, 07:14 PM My avatar is the original ( and best) Dreadnok (http://www.yojoe.com/vehicles/87/dreadnokcycle/dreadnokcycle_back.shtml) symbol. I always liked bad guys better than I liked the good guys. When I first started comming to the site I was going to have a name with Zartan in it but everybody was into Zartan at the time. I chose to honor the man who should have ruled Cobra. I still love the 'Noks and wish I was one of them. :D
Dakemesh 04-18-2006, 08:02 PM Ok, new avatar:
Bob the Enzyte Guy!!!!!!!
*If you've seen the Enzyte commercials, you KNOW how dang funny they are!*
I used to play Half Life online under the username EnzyteBob.
Those commercials are narrated by the same guy who voiced Beast Wars/Machines Megatron! The adds another layer of coolness.
And Fabio, if you ever get stateside, there are Blackbirds at a number of different museums. You can see one at the museum on board the Intrepid aircraft carrier in New York City. They've also got one at Wright Patterson Airforce Base in Dayton, Ohio. That's a great visit, they've also got the only remaining XB-70 there. It's hard to beat a supersonic bomber!
The Faceless Master 04-18-2006, 08:20 PM thanks Deogg, now am gonna be whistling the annoying theme song in my head
the rest of the night
Corredor X 04-19-2006, 10:35 AM I used to have Captain Harlock's pirate flag as my avatar, but someday I was playing in Photoshop and made the Cobra-Decepticon symbol from the comics to look like the brazilian flag, and liked the result :D
Fabio 04-19-2006, 10:51 AM And Fabio, if you ever get stateside, there are Blackbirds at a number of different museums. You can see one at the museum on board the Intrepid aircraft carrier in New York City. They've also got one at Wright Patterson Airforce Base in Dayton, Ohio. That's a great visit, they've also got the only remaining XB-70 there. It's hard to beat a supersonic bomber!
Wright Patterson would be my museum of choice for this exact reason: Blackbirds + Valkyrie!!!! :D
Bigtattoo 01-25-2007, 09:10 PM Thought Id resurrect this for any new folks out there
GIJoeCollector 01-25-2007, 09:37 PM I edited my original post as I didn't think it would make sense now (no longer the Action Force Cobra Logo). :p
Changed it again (no longer the I Ching Image).
Click Here (http://forums.yojoe.com/showpost.php?p=202130&postcount=36) to see my current explanation. :D
Abomb 01-26-2007, 08:32 AM I picked mine because I like Snake Eyes, this is a GI Joe forum, and I couldn't find Dart or Crosshair.
Edit: What 'swith Shogi's avatar?
neoviper76 01-28-2007, 05:56 PM Bullseye !!!!!!! One of my favorite characters in the Marvel U. Not the movie one of course!!!!!
Zodiacflash 01-29-2007, 03:40 PM I've always been proud to have served in the Army. I had a good run of it from '88 to '98, left as an E6. Four years in the Infantry and six years in Military Police. Airborne school, scuba, Ranger Class 1189, combat in Panama, Desert Storm and Somalia. I sum up how I feel about all my experiences and places I've been in just one simple 80 pixel X 80 pixel Army Flag.
Skystriker 01-30-2007, 06:36 PM I love the F-14.... The skystriker was one of the first toys I recieved on a very nice GiJoe themed christmas.. I remember playing with it for hours and fly Ace around in it all over the house......
Plus it was one of the original Avatars that were offered and I havent seen anyone else use it....I also havent looked for a new one since 2002. So why change it?
zartan15 01-31-2007, 11:39 AM Three reasons
1. My Namesake
2. I'm and evil master of disguise (and you're not, n'yeah... for those who got it)
3. A gem of that size will always answer ALL my questions (right neo?)
Erick 12-13-2007, 12:31 PM Well, my current avatar is Crystal Ball because I like his character and his figure is not as bad as many people think! (IMHO)
I change my avatar every 2-3 months, and always use cobra characters, no joes at all! :p Although I used a picture of Scare Glow not long ago...
In the 'location' field I always type something related to the character I use, for example:
Avatar: Astro Viper
Location: Surveilling Cobra's Satellite Network
Currahee_Chris 12-14-2007, 07:16 AM For those of you who may not know:
Mine is one of my Battalion Crests from when I was in the Army. It is the 1/506th infantry battalion. I was in the Second Infantry Division stationed at Camp Greaves Korea back in 1991. The six parachutists represent the fact that when the regiment was first activated, it was part of the US 6TH Army in WW2. I forget what the lightning bolt was to signify, death from above or something like that. The Green image is "Currahee Mountain" 3 miles up and 3 down- Currahee mountain is near Toccoa Georgia, where the regiment first trained. We had one there on the Z as well.
"Curr A Hee" is, if memory serves, a Cherokee translation of "Stand Alone", the regiment's motto. I loved that unit more than all the others I served in and take great pride in having served with the guys in that unit.
Take care,
CC
Snake-eyes01 12-14-2007, 09:01 AM Mine is pretty self explanatory! I love the show & can't wait for season 3!!! :D

This is the picture I'm using. It's the greatest picture in the world. Ever.

Shudder... Thanks, I'm not easily disturbed. :p
yojoebro82 12-14-2007, 10:53 PM Original Cobra Commander art drawn just for me by the first GI Joe comic artist Herb Trimpe :)
Propaedeutic 12-15-2007, 12:14 AM The 1987 series was the first set of new Joes after I started collecting. I spent a lot of time with the new cardbacks picking out which figure to get next. The Techno-Viper was my favorite from that set. I was greatly disappointed that the Technos didn't make it into the cartoon. But they did show up in a few commercials, as my avatar demonstrates. The "techy" nature of the avatar also fits with my approach to G.I. Joe as an intellectual pursuit, but more fundamentally I liked them because my favorite color at the time was purple.
karamazov80 12-15-2007, 01:11 AM My avatar here is a nod to my favorite movie poster of all times--though not of my favorite Romero movie--and it was chosen b/c it looked good when I loaded it here. I had a hard time getting any other picture of mine to look right color-wise. Its like trying to open a high quality JPEG file on an old 486 computer with 256 colors. . .
sithviper 12-20-2007, 01:19 PM Currently, I'm using the symbol seen all over the show Heroes, of which I am a fan
Erick 03-28-2008, 01:03 AM Update!
I now have this very cool pic... it's Eddie (in full cyborg glory), Iron Maiden's mascot. This was taken from the cover art of their 'Somewhere in Time' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somewhere_in_Time_%28album%29) album (btw, Maiden's finest album)
This cover art is full of references to other albums, songs, etc., it's just way cool! :D
Maiden fans know what i'm talking about ;)
GUNNY 03-28-2008, 01:21 AM My Avatar ?
How can you go wrong with R. Lee Ermey..
Ermey is a real life GI Joe.
He should be playing Hawk in next years movie.
