View Full Version : Anyone in New York go to the show?
TURNA 02-20-2005, 03:56 PM Well I went and I was greatly disapointed!
EVERYTHING was increadably overpriced!
And there were only 3 tables of 3 3/4 stuff.
If it was not for Bill from INTERNATIONALJOES.COM who gave me a decent price on a figure. I would have started knocking over tables!
jcast 02-20-2005, 04:29 PM I got a Cold front with Mic for $6.00.
miragearmy 02-20-2005, 10:30 PM I got a couple of '83 style acc pack helmets for my comic pack Joes, and a Ma Deuce type gun in a 1:18 scale that fits Roadblock perfectly. All for $0.50 per item. :)
ChemViper 02-21-2005, 08:58 AM I was kinda disappointed. I got some good deals from SCWV. The lady in the front of the show had a couple of joes I picked up, but her prices were weird. Never found a trading partner, so I left with 2 full boxes of Joes.
You got the deal of the show with that Cold Front, I think!
Is anyone going to the CT show this coming weekend?
TURNA 02-21-2005, 09:11 AM hey chem i sent u a pm
thoughtcrime 02-21-2005, 10:29 AM Is this referring to the Desimone show in Queens? I was going to go, but after hearing about how it was mostly 12" and the prices were in Ebay league, I decided to skip it. I'm glad I did.
Royal Zarak 02-21-2005, 11:53 AM You guys went? Damn I was there at 10:00 and left at 10:50 only to come back at 12:30 because of work. Too bad that I didn't get to meet any of you :( If it wasn't for Scwv or gilty01 the show would of been boring.
What is this show coming this weekend?

sucks most of u didn't have fun. sry to hear that. as for prices thats basically any show most people sell high. i do as well, but i always try my best to give better deals. i don't sell for the business of it i am just selling off my collection so my prices unfortunatly usually tend to reflect what i paid or at least close.
while there is usually only 3-4 3 3/4 tables you never know what u will find. i used to go every show as a buyer and there would only be 1-2 tables for awhile, but you know what it's always more fun in person then on a computer thats how i feel. so don't let what a few people say keep u from coming and having a good time. i perosnally have made some great friends at these shows and wouldn't miss out. unfortunatly i don't get as much time to hang with them cause i have to usually talk to 2-3 people at once, but once i sell everything i'll be there hanging like the rest of them.
i have been friends with gil for probably 2 years i would say now. we met when we would just attend the shows with those 1-2 3 3/4 tables. we talk pretty regularly and always get together at the shows! in the past year or so i have had the pleasure of meeting royal, frank and violentfix (eric, frank and eric) among countless others which it's always cool to see them at the shows. i unfortunatly sell there now so what i say may not sound sincere but when i was just a guy going to buy joes it was great cause even with 1-2 tables i got to see everything 1st hand and not on a computer screen.
a suggestion for getting good prices is to ask for more then 1 item. if u ask hey how much is this and somebody says 15.00 and u put it down and ask about another and the person says 15.00 you think well thats 30.00. if u buy both u can probably get it for 25 or if u buy even more u can get stuff for less. with 1 at a time purchases you don't get the discounts because it's 1 item that somebody has a price in thier head on. i usually say pick some stuff and we'll deal.
enjoy it for what it is and don't expect it to be a convention sized 3 3/4 fest cause everybody should know it's more geared towards 12" but don't forget u will always have at least 2-3 3 3/4 sellers there. i think people let others comments scare them away and you miss out on a good time and some nice finds. try it for yourself. i'm glad to have met alot of the local NJ/NY guys. i wish i had met them all sooner. you can meet all the local joe collectors here:

ChemViper 02-21-2005, 02:10 PM It definitely is worth coming out to the show, even if just to socialize. I know there are sometimes some surprise vendors. I know 3 of the tables were non-regular DeSimone vendors, so that made it cool. You never know what you can find.
Thanks again for the loot, SCWV. You gave me a good deal..I appreciate it!
hey chem, was great meeting you, sry again i couldn't do as much talking it was alittle crazy. unfortunatly i forgot your name, don't take it personally i am lucky to remember my own. i always forget names and it takesme awhile to remember, lol. we willd effinatly be in touch especially since we have the boards for the local guys!
Violentfix 02-22-2005, 09:37 AM :( If it wasn't for Scwv or gilty01 the show would of been boring.
What about me and Frank? What are we, Chopped Liver? LOL
I know you mean dealers.
Well I went and I was greatly disapointed!
EVERYTHING was increadably overpriced!
And there were only 3 tables of 3 3/4 stuff.
Well the goal is for more people to show support so that more dealers come to the show. I was talking to a dealer that same afternoon and telling them to come next time and they said, "I used to go but not enough 3 3/4 collectors come to buy"
It's a double edge sword, but I can guarantee you that it's up to us to take the first step and that means attending and demanding more dealers that suite your needs. I don't know about you guys but there aren't to many places for me to buy Joes around my house. The places that exist are rip-offs and so by going to these shows and getting dealers to go as well only helps us in the long run by getting competition and hence better pricing.
And when it comes to deals I can state that SCXV knocked $20 bucks off a $90 worth of Joes for me when he totaled up my stuff, that's a 23% discount and well worth my time.
TURNA 02-22-2005, 09:46 AM I have to disagree
The dealers have to take the first step. After all this is the "profession" they have chosen. If they want to make the money then they have to show up. And they need to get the word out there, that they will be there.
I know I will not go back if I know there will only be 3 dealers with the same overpriced fodder. Aspecially the one female dealer by the door.
If I was to hear that the place was packed with 3 3/4 dealers then I would make an effort to show up at the show.
miragearmy 02-22-2005, 10:20 AM You know, there were other dealers that sold some accesories, backpacks and vehicle parts, like that 12 inch dealer. :)
I did manage to pick up some "good" accessory pieces even though I didn't find other vehicle parts. Good accessory selection though. :)
Kozin 02-22-2005, 03:24 PM I thought the show was pretty good. Both as an attendee and a dealer.
As a dealer, I'd love to give the best price I can on whatever I have. But if I paid $30 for a mixed bag of parts, don't expect me to part with it for $25. I try and stay away from complete vehicles and figures because so many people are selling them. And no dealer like to hear "well, I can get it cheaper on ebay".
I was the dealer in the corner with the 12" and 3 & 3/4" stuff, the boxes of loose vehicle parts and weapons.
I'd like to thank all those that did pick up stuff from me. It was great talking to many of you.
I really wasn't shopping for stuff this time around, but I did pick up a TRU Mobat for an upcoming custom project from scwv and a bag of sandbags, stands and gas cans for $7 from Stephie, the girl by the door.
Now, let me enlighten you from a show promoter's point of view. Getting the right mix of 3 & 3/4" dealers and customers is a double edged sword. If you can't get enough people in the door to buy items from the dealers, then the dealers aren't going to be happy. The dealer's don't return and then customers go with the "not enough dealers" thinking.
I was fortunate that Armageddon Toys and Guru-Planet took a big risk at coming to the Sept 2004 CT show along with a few collectors that were selling their 3 & 3/4" stuff. In all there were 6 dealers there for 3 & 3/4". I had hoped that support would have been better for them, but unfortunately it wasn't. While the figure contest was excellent, and there were some killer entries, I was hoping for more.
Planning a show is a lot of work, time and funds. Yes, the shows are a business but for me it's also part of my hobby. I have just as much of a blast getting to see entries and talking with folks as I do collecting.
It's a tough choice on wether to go to a show or not. Do I drive 2 hours each way, drop $5 and hope to find something or do I stay home and ebay?
I'm all for suggestions on what I can do for the fall show (the big one with contests, etc.) to increase the number of 3 & 3/4" fans through the door. Please feel free to drop me an email at JohnKozin@aol.com
Again, thanks to all those that stopped by my booth and chatted as well as bought some stuff. I really appreciate it.
Cheers!
John
