View Full Version : Carolina's Collectors Club
SoulcatcherX 05-26-2005, 02:21 AM Hello.
I've seen aplenty of other states/regions that have lots of people living nearby each other that have get-togethers and mini-trade meets.
I also know that theres at least a few people in the immediate vicinity of myself.
We just sorta seem to remain hushed-up though.
Normally, I'm not a sociallite. However, even though I'm new (relatively) at collecting Joes, I thought that it would be cool to have a semi-formal collectors club for people in my region of the world.
So thus, I propose that we attempt to actually get something semi-official going. My Frontpage skills are nominal at best but I am willing to put forth the work to build a website (NOT a forum) for everyone. Ideally, I'd like to even organize an annual get-together/swap-meet for us to attend.
I know it will take effort, which I'm willing to put forth. The only thing I ask is for participation and the wherewithal to drop your name in the bucket. Pending response, I can even begin working on dealing with locales to house our meets and trade shows.
So... If you are interested, simply reply, be receptable to e-mails from myself (I promise not to spam) and perhaps we can make something of ourselves.
Hoping,
-Soul

Awesome. I have only travelled as far north as Charlotte so far, but I've wanted to visit Greensboro. I've been told it's a pretty sizable town.
How far south would you be willing to travel if given ample time to plan on it? I'm thinking perhaps sometime perhaps in late July or early August we might could have a meet up on a weekend.
sinnister 05-26-2005, 01:16 PM SC isnt very long of a drive. I guess Charlotte is around an hour and 45 minutes or so. Given ample notice I'd hit SC. It will really depend on if I have someone to watch the young-uns. I work Sat, Sun, Mon, Tues from 1930-0730. My wife works days on weekends as well so it may also depend on if she has the time off...assuming you are wanting to do it on the weekend. I know the soonest for me would probably be in August. I'm heading up north to Indiana in July to visit family etc...
SoulcatcherX 05-26-2005, 07:02 PM August or even later would actually be even better for me since that gives more time to gather trade fodder, build my collection as well as garner funds together. Not to mention also get some other Carolinians involved.
Deadman2099 05-27-2005, 01:21 PM howdy, i'm from SC also, midlands actually. there is a forum set up for the southern states i believe. i joined but i really haven't gone there much. the yahoo group is:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Southjoe/
and i think this is the other forum:
http://southjoe.proboards28.com/index.cgi
i'm not sure how much attention these two places get, but they seem to be pretty cool.
SoulcatcherX 05-29-2005, 03:27 PM Hey Deadman. I was wondering when you'd pop in to say hello.
Thanks for those links man.
What do you say about an August get-together?
sinnister 05-29-2005, 03:59 PM I'd like to try and do that. I'll have to try and build up my trading fodder from now until then!
Deadman2099 05-29-2005, 07:22 PM i'm kinda doubting i'd be able to go. college and work keep me busy right now, but my last semester is next spring soooo, hopefully one day i'll be able to have a life hehehe

Me too. I think I'm going to wind up wiping the FD's and DG's stock out in order to do so. I should also be getting all my old stuff from back home in soon, so there might be some stuff in there.

I feel ya there... I don't currently know what my class sched for the fall is going to look like just yet, but I may have to plan accordingly. Plus I'm also in the process of trying to get a job now too so I'll have that to consider. Hopefully though we can work something out where you could come, if even for just a couple of hours.
Deadman2099 05-30-2005, 11:31 AM are ya'll looking to just trade gi joes for gi joes? or other lines, most of the gi joe stuff i own i've had since i was a kid and probablly wouldn't trade off. although i have other stuff cards/comics/and other toy lines i probablly wouldn't mind getting rid of. maybe we should clarify what we're looking for before we talk about meeting up. if we're looking for the new stuff or if we're really looking for RAH stuff, it may make a difference.
oh and did you go to the southjoe site? i really haven't looked around there much, but if you're looking for a bigger audience you may try there. i just haven't been around there enough to see what kind of people they are yet
SoulcatcherX 05-30-2005, 12:04 PM I, myself, would be looking for just about any type of Joe merchandise that I could garner. Comics, cards, figs, vehicles... whatever. I might even be looking for some Thundercats stuff if any prove to be available at the time. I'll also have a host of non-Joe stuff that I'd be hauling with me for additional fodder.
I have checked out and joined the SouthJoe site and the yahoo group also. Only made a couple of posts but I'll be trying to pass the word there as well.
While the get-together is a large focus of the CCC, it's also not the only thing I would like to become of it. As I made mention of before, I'd like to develop a website as well as start a community newsletter. Just an attempt to actually form a real club where people have the oppurtunity to get to know other local collectors better and share resources (stories, store stock lists, collection photo's). The focus, of course, being more on real-world interaction rather than exclusively online.
Not sure if I am phrasing this correctly at the moment but hopefully I'm at least hitting near my mark.
Deadman2099 05-30-2005, 12:14 PM that's cool, and yes it makes sense. it would have been great to have that especially when the hasbro distribution was so scattered that you really couldn't find what you were looking for. it's a good idea. maybe a group could find the stuff that the individual can't. i know, personally, i couldn't get a bunch of the comic packs around here because we really only have walmart and they didn't seem to have much these past years.
i think i'll try and get a list together of stuff i have for trade. i've been meaning to do that for a while now.
jeez for a Memorial Day, it sure is rainy :P
