View Full Version : Please take a moment to remember Bayou Benny
dockingbay97 06-07-2005, 10:54 AM Please take a moment to remember Bayou Benny.
It has come to my attention that one of our own Bayou Benny passed away on May 19. I really don't know any details more than that.
Benny was an active poster on this board since Dec 2001.
He was an active collector and has many good trades with other members of this site.
While I did not know Benny on a personal level, his loss with be missed.
Please feel free to use this thread as a place to remember and share memories of Benny.
Jeff Bohn 06-07-2005, 11:00 AM Wow, sad news. My sympathies go out to his family.
sinnister 06-07-2005, 11:03 AM Wow. That's a total shock. He will be remembered and deeply missed. My condolences to his family.
whitedalek 06-07-2005, 11:11 AM My sympathies to his family too.
thunt4 06-07-2005, 11:39 AM Thats really shocking!! He was always posting on a regular basis and by the tone in his posts was a friendly guy. He seemed to do a lot of trading and making friends that way as well. I am sorry for the loss and the joe community will remember you and all you have done and the friends you have made along the way. May you rest in peace and we will remember you..
Mark W. Bellomo 06-07-2005, 12:54 PM Oh my God. We had some GREAT conversations over the years.
Since I've lost his addy, could someone (via private mail) send me an address for his family - I'd like to send a sympathy card and a brief note.
Not to be maudlin, but what about starting a memorial page on yojoe? I think the man deserves a memorial. For sure.
Lord knows we aren't all gonna live forever. I smoke AND drink. At the same time. (Together, even).
I will miss you (and salute you) Bayou Benny. Thanks for your friendship.

GBPackRat 06-07-2005, 12:56 PM Wow... very upsetting. I think we traded a few times over the course of the last 2 or 3 years.
Thank you for letting us know DB. If anyone else finds out anymore information, please post it.
As far as I can tell, he was a pretty upstanding guy around here.

GungHo 06-07-2005, 05:08 PM NNNOOOOOOO!!!!! :( I had the pleasure of actually meeting Benny in person once....... I'm sure everyone can remember how GREAT of a trader he was....and always interested in helping others with thier collection if at all possible........all I can say is you should have met him in person. Benny was one of the most caring collectors I've ever met......he was quiet...and shy in person......but you could tell that he was sweet and careing.
Man, I'm sitting here.....and this is a real shock......God, you know, it really sucks to find out that a good guy has just passed like this. Nick, is there any way to find out what happened???
Benny my friend, it was a pleasure to know you, meet you, and trade with you. You will be missed my friend.......
RIP Benny :( :cry
thunt4 06-07-2005, 05:57 PM Do you think we should set up some sort of fund for the family? At that age nothing would have been planned out so I am sure they have a nice size bill. Maybe we can all chip in some money and send it to his family.
Cavalry Man 06-07-2005, 06:52 PM Oh my. That's terrible news. I believe I traded with him once and he always seemed like an upstanding guy. Such a shame. My condolences and prayers go out to his family and friends.
R.I.P. Benny
Condolences.
There's really nothing to say that will help, but I hope his family knows that he will be missed by many people that they may not have known.

I think we should set up a donation for the family either through paypal or money order.Send it to a mod on here and he or she can then send it to the family.
Something like:From the YOJOE Collectors of which Benny was a Valuable,Honest, and Caring Member.

etmartin 06-11-2005, 07:25 AM Just noticed this...
This is truly sad news. I helped Benny alot with some of the things he needed when it came to store hunting. He would always trade more than fair for the things he wanted and would be. By far, one of the easiest people I have ever dealt with on this board and he may be the person I've dealt with the most. He always had something to lend to the conservation also. The Joe community itself has taken a pretty hard hit with this loss...even if some don't know it. If anyone in Louisiana can get Benny's obit...I'd like it.
LMK,
Thanks,
etmartin :D :D :D
dendariiprime 06-11-2005, 12:49 PM my heartfelt prayers go out to his friends and family, i have baried 2 loved-ones the past 2 years(my mom and my older sister). my flag is at half-staff.

Navajo 06-11-2005, 07:02 PM This is terrible. My condolences to the family. Is there any news on a fund yet?

BelgianGabber 06-12-2005, 03:53 PM Wow, I missed this due to not checking that often.
I had two or three great trades with Benny. This news came as a shock to me. He was a stand up guy and will be missed...

benny always posted those great customs.
this is very sad. he was not very old either.

Bayoubenny's want/trade list was a staple of the classifieds
Deadshot 06-12-2005, 09:02 PM Benny was one of the first people on the board that I had the opportunity to trade with. He was always very cool to deal with and will be missed.

gsmiley007 06-15-2005, 09:06 AM My condolences to the family, I've never traded with him. But he sounded like a great guy. It's just not fair, he was so young.
My Generation Toys 06-15-2005, 10:19 AM I hardly ever check this section and to tell you the truth ... Nothing could have really prepared me for this news.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
I knew Benny as being a ture gentleman in this hobby. To give you an example, right before I got know him, Benny and I were in a last minute bidding war on a lot of 5 Flaggs (yes 5 Flaggs) and in the last second I won the bidding.
Well, right after the auction ended he emailed me telling me the he was sorry that he lost out on the bidding and congratulated me for winning. He also said that it was the most fun he had sniping an auction. Wow, that was almost 3 years ago.
You'll be remembered my friend.
-Sigfrido
Deacon 06-16-2005, 02:38 PM I just wanted to pay respect to Benny.
He defintiely was a credit to our community.
Aucassin 06-16-2005, 11:40 PM I bought a couple of two-packs from Benny two years ago and he was really nice to deal with. It was when I was first getting back into collecting Joes, and it was just a really fun time. Those memories are as fond to me as those from the '80s. Benny's friendliness helped make those times fun. In fact, I usually think of those packs as "the figures I bought from Benny".
It's really odd, but I never check this section of the boards. I haven't been here for two weeks and accidentally clicked the wrong forum. I was trying to figure out why there were so few posts when I saw this thread. As sad as I am about this news, I'm glad clicked the wrong forum.
Though I never talked to him after out transaction, I always paid a bit a more attention to his posts. He was as friendly in those posts as he was in our emails. I'll miss his posts.
hal aka orginal condor knight 06-18-2005, 05:36 PM i'm really sorry to hear about benny's pasting. since we trade very offen. my heart goes out to his family in this very dark time. benny was one of the first person on the board who traded with me. ever since the first trade i would pm him and see if he would have anything that i needed or if i had anything he needed.

Richard J. 06-23-2005, 12:57 AM I'm late seeing this, for which I am sorry, and wish to say this: It is a true testiment to Benny that so many have come here to say so much. He was a collector, a friend to many, and a kind person. He was is good man who left us too soon.
He is missed. He is remembered.

I dealt with "BENNY" only once, but I did have the pleasure of a few chat's with him. He was a very sincere guy, alway's looking to help, and he was an absoulute asset to Yojoe, and everyone he touched. He will be missed by many of people for sure. My sympathies go out to his family, he was a great guy.

Flintreloaded 07-11-2005, 01:33 PM I usually just lurk here and pm people from the sale threads. So I never come to this part of the board and I saw the thread and it hit me. I have bought a few things from Benny. Some single packs and that pain in the arse gum bitz set. all at a fantastic price of course.
I didn't know him, don't claim to, but he seemed like an alirght guy. My thoughts.....
snakestorm526 07-13-2005, 05:35 PM I too am late in seeing this thread... I bought from Benny before and he seemed like a very nice guy... My condolences to his family... RIP our yojoe brother
Backyard G.I.joe 07-14-2005, 01:28 PM I am deeply sorry to hear this I have been on vac. and just looked here. We too traded a little over the years and he was very nice in all the trades. We will miss him very much.
Angry Beef 07-25-2005, 06:56 PM I'm also curious as to what happened?
I had some dealing with him a long time ago.. I actually don't remember if it was a trade or a sale....
I just remember always liking his name... Reminded me of Bayou Billy for Nintendo.
ranger_jer 08-20-2005, 06:59 PM I am sporatic as far as my access to a computer, and i just saw this ... This is horrible news... Bayou Benny was one of the few people who it was always a pleasure to trade/sell/buy with, no rudeness no hassle. Last fall when he sent me stuff i remember him mentioning something about being ill, i don't know if he died of a long term illness or he was simply saying he had been sick and then was taken suddenly either way it makes you think. It makes you glad to remember the good times and sad that that part will never happen again. I would like more info if anybody has any to share about causes of his death, and a donation to the family.
"The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away..."
You will be missed, I pray to God to get to see you someday down the line

John Missal 06-01-2006, 10:50 PM I didn't see this thread last year, don't know how I missed it for the month it was around. I was actually just wondering this week what happened to him, so I guess now I know...(no battle to know the other half of here, just a friend who is missed...)
John M.
Corey Stinson 06-08-2006, 10:02 AM I just noticed this thread, but missed it the first time around unfortunately.
Benny was a loyal SMALLJOES customer, and I had traded with him several times as well over the years. I am sure he will be missed greatly by the GI JOE collecting community.
My condolences to his family.
code red shockwave 06-25-2006, 05:48 PM Bayou Benny you will be missed. I have never made any deals with the guy, but I can say with certainity he was a good guy. My condolences as well...I hope all of you will take care so that hopefully something as tragic as this won't happen to someone else anytime soon.
Tomorrow (Dec 9th) would be Benny's birthday. Being in the middle of the Holiday season is probably just that much harder on his family. It's been a year and ½ since he moved on, & his name still means something here. I was still a newbie, & didn't know him as well as many of you, but he is still remembered. . .
Abomb 12-14-2006, 12:44 PM I am just I newbie and never knew him but I offer my condolences to his family.
captainterrebonne 04-06-2008, 06:50 PM Wow I had no idea. I remember him quite well. I remeber meeting him once at a trade in New Orleans about 4 years ago.
