The announcement of issue #0 selling out at distributor level means exactly what? (Or should I say "How?")

So, no issue #0 will make it to retail ? AND How does a sell-out like this occur? Did/do/can customers purchase durectly from distributors?

It just means that all the distributors (the guys who sell the comics to the individual retail stores) have bought all the first printings that DD made. That means that there should be plenty in the stores.

That's what I initially thought, but then the "don't worry, we're making a second printing" portion of the message implied that there was going to be a shortage at retail.

So, has anyone else gotten it? It was pretty good. A satellite, or something, crash lands into downtown Chicago. The sparse Joe team goes into action. Someone who may be a former Joe might be responsible, but I only think that because of how he said his name.

this is a great issue and a great buy.25 looking foward to the future issues. the art was top notch, and the breakdowns and story moved well.

I enjoyed the issue. It sets the stage for the new series very well and the artist team is best we've seen in the DDP run. Additionally, the new writer Joe Casey chose the right eight characters to focus on for a smaller GI Joe team. ( However, I would have liked to see two six operator teams with a leader, Stormshadow's status off the record & adding Spirit, Clutch, Covergirl, Beachhead, Wild Bill & Tunnel Rat)

FYI: Wingfield was a radical militia leader from issue #4 of the original Marvel series. He was supposely killed at the end of that issue, but I guess things have changed:)

As I have stated in other posts, I do have some concerns about this new series. Mainly, I don't want to see any Joe able to operate any Joe vehicle as was done in the cartoon. So far, Scarlett has piloted a stealth jet & GI Joe HQ has lots and lots of Sky Hawks & Skystrikers. Wouldn't need so many unless lots of people could fly them.

Maybe the new team will use Green Shirts.

It was nice to see the Phantom X-19 being used.

wingfield's son made an appearance as a terrorist worth some personal clout in brandon jerwa's frontline arc (issues 11-14, i believe). i wonder if this will be addressed, and if so, in what way.
fun stuff so far, in my opinion.
can't wait until issue one and jerwa's declassified.

I don't care what anyone says. #0 is cool.

Yes, I got #0 today and was pleased with the start. Art is prettty good, not sure I like Shipwrecks look. Everyone else looks pretty cool. Anyone have any thoughts on the choices for the team members?

No Marines? I would like to see Gung Ho as a regular in the series. Then have Deep Six, Ace, Wildbill as secondary characters. I sort of agree that several Joes piloting every vehicle can be pretty "cartoonish". But...well suspension of disbelief, right?

Anyway, I liked # 0. I'll see if they can make it past the first 10 issues before passing better judgement.

I was pleasantly surprised by it. After the way the old series ended I was afradi it would be more of the same, but it seemed to get off to a good start. I hope that as the series goes along they resolve some of the hanging plots that were left after the old series ended.

Definitely worth a quarter! I might even pick up the special edition #1 at the con next week now!

Shipwreck kind of looks like an even crazier Captain Ahab, which isn't so good.

I was pleased by #0. It was refreshing to see the story set in a new direction. I was spo much expecting it to be about the Red Shadows but apparently they were fighting some kind of Cobra Troopers, which was great. They hinted at Hawk recovering, so they didn't rule out he might walk again! Great!

The art is dark which is also a good thing. It makes everything feel more dangerous. Maybe relaunching was a good thing after all. I hope by the next few months we will find out more about Baronness, Destro, CC and the gang.

I thought it was pretty good, however I never get too critical of the comics for some reason. I enjoyed all of the DD/Image run and the only gripe I had with the Marvel run was when they killed off Cobra Commander for a while. That was really the only time I serioiusly lost interest. You cannot get rid of CC, EVER!!
The one problem I have with America's Elite: Shipwreck looks terrible. I don't see anything "Shipwreck" about the way they drew him in the new comic. I'm glad he's in there because he is one of my favs, but man he really looks like crap!

06-17-2005, 02:43 PM
You people and your spoilers. I have been saving my pennies for issue 0 and I only have seven pennies left!!! Just kidding. I have to travel 30 miles for a comic I am a big procastinator. Anyway...Yo Joe and all that.

A very good and intriguing piece of writing. The art was spectacular. The reference to Commander Wingfield (from Marvel GI Joe #4) was superb. Maybe that character from issue #9 could come back too? I see now some of the direction that DDP has slowly been leading us towards. More of a return to the "dirty dozen" aspect of the original ARAH ten member team back in 1982, n'est ce pas? Not bad at all. Joe Colton is an interesting touch--I am curious to see how it turns out with him in command. What is his current official rank? One star on the collar, but three to four were there in the 80's, right? I wouldn't mind seeing a series devoted exclusively to his adventures prior to the GI Joe of the 80's. Hama alluded to a core team of Vietnam veterans. And Rey?

Please, include the Red Shadows, Iron Grenadiers, Wingfield et al, other new terrorists et cetera as much as you wish, DDP. If the stories remain as high in quality as this one then I will stay totally loyal. I would however, appreciate a strong primary focus on Cobra.

Storm Shadow's costume was quite good. I am a bit unhappy about his returning as a Joe, but I caught the undercurrent that he may not be one permanently. Unlike Snake-Eyes, he was a ninja first and a soldier second--he just never seemed to fit (to me) as a counterterrorist. I can be patient, though.

The other team members look just like I have always hoped they would...but if we could just replace that visor on Snake-Eyes with some goggles/lenses for just a few issues...

Still many, many more questions than answers in the last handful of issues. Let's not forget to humor the obsessive-compulsive fans (like me) and wrap up some of the myriad plot threads as we charge onwards.

Could we have one or two more female terrorists? Cobra has always needed a bit more feminity in its ranks. And PLEASE don't leave out (at least permanently)...

Joes: Torpedo, Gung-Ho, Recondo, Blowtorch, Rock n' Roll, Spirit, Steeler, Airborne, Cover Girl, Clutch, Ripcord, Grunt, Ace, Wild Bill, Short-Fuze, Grand Slam.

Cobras: Firefly, Wild Weasel, Scrap-Iron, Major Bludd, Baroness, Destro, Zartan, and the blonde hottie who replaced Mindbender (whose name I am too lazy to look up right now).

Very, very well done. All of the creative team deserves to be commended. Don't stop in forty issues, though. :D

The idea of a smaller team is interesting and if the characters are properly fleshed out then this should be a great improvement. As far as the selection, I am a little surprised at who didn't make the cut.

1) Not one vehicle specialist/driver made it. Ace/Wild Bill anyone??
2) Only the Army and one Naval team member are represented. Where are the other branches? Seems odd they wouldn't have included
3) Not one computer/communications expert made it.
4) Did anyone expect that General Rey wasn't going to make it in? I sure didn't. I mean after all the build up I really expected them to keep him around,,, although the door is left open for him later.

Overall, some have said it and I'll repeat it, I wish Stormie had been a background character (as that's how they seem to be using him anyway) and they had gone with Gung-Ho, Spirit, or CoverGirl (another female, also a vehicle driver and completely underdeveloped as a character).

Some other musings,,

1) Shipwrecks look is not going to translate to a figure very well but then since they are likely making these guys in Sigma-Six form and not in 3&3/4 they should be able to make him look okay, but the dude has definately taken a turn for the grungier.

2) Flint looks darker, tougher and a little dirtier, IMO the best redo of the characters. His trail off comment about the late great L.J. was an excellent touch.

3) Hawk came off as a little "off his rocker" which can happen to a guy who's struggling with trying to walk again

4) Roadblock came off as though they may have tried to hard to work in the cooking thing but overall seems stable. His comments about SS fit pretty well for someone who was plenty upset when his buddy Gung-ho got chopped up by Stormie so long ago. I like a dude who can hold a grudge that long.

5) Stalker provides the cool humor as always and looks to be the "rock" for everyone to lean on again. Seems most unchanged from the previous titles.

6) Scarlett seems like she is very much on edge. Definately darker and this may be heightened by her new look more so than her lines.

7) Duke's look came off as sad almost remorseful. He wasn't in enough panels to see if this was just because of the place (hospital-looking room with a very worked up Hawk) or if he is now going to contiue to be the brooding type.

8) Snakes was Snakes,,,Bad with a capital B.

9) SS was,,,odd. Not sure where they are going with him, but definately has the opportunity to turn into a "Heel." His new gray ninja outfit was pretty cool looking.

Would love to hear from others on their perception.

I liked it a lot, and the art was alot cooler to me. Not as cartoonish as the previous series, but I like 'em both.

Only thing i didn't like about the way the characters looked was most of the time they looked a little too hardcore...kinda like they were all constipated or were turning into goblins or something. Cool, but made me laugh a little.

The story seems like it is off to a good start. I always like it when the bad guys from the past come back with plots of revenge.

I'm looking forward to see how it all goes!

i liked #0 alot but i am very sure i do not like shipwrecks look hes always been a favorite of mine but now he just kind of frightens me.

i know they wanted to streamline the team down some (and i am so thrilled they stoppedmaking them look so old awhile back) but i would hope for a bit bigger of a core team using some more of the classic (1982-86) characters. having a large roatating cast in such a top secret teamdoesnt make to much sense to me(although ill take it if it means getting some more of the cool joes back) but over all im happy with the choices of the lead characters except i think i must have missed an issue on them getting storm shadow back with the good guys

I liked the storyline of issue #0, but my one complaint is the art. The art is totally crap! I think the artist escaped from some Japanese magna factory or something. Shipwreck looks like some homeless bum or crazy man and every woman seems to always have half her hair hanging over her face. This issue easily had the worst art of the entire DD run. The art actually subtracted from my enjoyment of the issue - it was so bad. I was really very disappointed. My rating: story--B, colors -- B+. art -- D- (that's being kind).

P.S. At least it didn't involve Cobra-La or Sepentor! :p

I agree. I think the new art work stinks! It makes me not want to even bother reading the book. And why does it seem that every 2 or 3 panels someone is giving the Rock's "People's Eyebrow"?

LOL!! Too true. Maybe the artist is a closet 'rassling' fan. :D

I was at Leonard Wood for USMC Mp School in 2004 and I never want to go back. It is realy horrible if you are 30 and they treat you like you just got out of boot camp. The town is dead. And the people are dirty outside the gates. A true Military base town.

Any way. I thought Issue 0 was great I bought 3 of them.

And yes they do need some Marines.

I'm shocked that so many like issue 0. It's not worth 25 cents to me. What's with the angry eyes in every single freakin' picture? Everybody looks like a lunatic. They're trying way too hard to be gritty or something.

I can't stand the art. I won't be picking up any new issues. This is not GI Joe to me. I've read all of the first Devil's Due line and most of their Joe mini-series and this is the worst I have seen yet. The plot isn't bad, but I can't stand the cheesy dialog and the way too extreme art. A new beginning? This won't last long.

LOL A guy in a snake suit doesn't scare me! :p But he would be awesome in the WWE!

I thought #0 was great. My only gripe is that they've gone to this small team format.

Okay, I can feel the stares. Seriously, I hate the whole streamlined tear deal. Give me a huge group of Joes, any of which could be used on a mission. That's always half the fun for me, seeing which Joes go on what mission.

At the very least, they need to add in a few more specialists like others have already mentioned. It's just not realistic, even in Joe verse, not to have drivers and at least one computer expert. I'd like to see them bring Firewall back.

I have yet to pick up my issues of the "new" Gi Joe, i haven't made the hour drive yet, but I'm sad to see them streamline the comic as well, I like the cameo appearences and groups of different joes and cobras, no one else enjoys seeing Copperhead running around occassionally? I will give it a fair shake and see what happens. I would still love for Frontline to come backe so we could get some variety.

I read Issue 0 today. Finally got it in the mail. I don't like Shipwreck's new look. The story was okay. Nothing special.
