preview was ultra cool!!!
but ... i can't get the audio to work either. hmm .....
TYPE*S*TOYS 08-01-2005, 10:38 PM It looks like Japanese Anime. Geez I thought Joe was the Real AMERICAN hero.
whitedalek 08-01-2005, 11:41 PM No audio for me either. I like it. It's not my GI Joe, but it looks really cool. I like anime, but I kinda wish that everything new didn't have to be anime style. Give me Donald Duck! :D
yojoebro82 08-01-2005, 11:52 PM It looks like Japanese Anime. Geez I thought Joe was the Real AMERICAN hero.
I don't think there is a kids cartoon made today that DOESN'T look like anime, is there?
cool:) thats sweet but i like the old ones beter
Rotty 08-02-2005, 12:58 AM It looks like Japanese Anime. Geez I thought Joe was the Real AMERICAN hero.
That is the silliest complaint I have ever heard about a GI Joe cartoon.
Incidentally, it looks like anime because it's produced by Japan's Studio Gonzo.

Well, not really. I'd say it's a very legitimate complaint, & really my only holdout on the new line. Remember, a lot of us 30-somethings grew up with the impression/stereotype, whichever, that most things Japanese, anime included, were substandard. I'm not saying that it's right, just that solidly ingrained viewpoints like that aren't easily overcome. This style of animation turns a lot of people off so quickly that they can't get far enough into it to see that it's just the style that has stayed, but the quality has improved. Growing up with Hanna Barbera, Looney Tunes, Warner Brothers, things like that (yes, also Sunbow & DIC ;) ), this is a whole new flavor, & many people won't like it.
Since the market for this, though, is kids who are roughly in the 10-year-old age group, this is perfect for them. With their exposures to Pokemon, Digimon, Dragonballz, & this type of toyline & cartoons, this is very similar in style to what they are already interested in.
I guess what I'm saying is, that isn't a silly complaint at all, it's just that it doesn't appeal to many of us because we aren't the target demographic for this line.
curmudgeon 08-02-2005, 09:15 AM I loved the vehicles, the lightning fast animation and the battle sequences, but disliked the new character designs and japanese-style faces.
Regardless of any nit-picking, I am really looking forward to seeing this. Hopefully the stories are interesting and action-packed.
gutstheberserker 08-02-2005, 09:27 AM As you can probably tell by my name, I enjoy the anime-style of animation.
Obiwanjacoby 08-02-2005, 05:04 PM Me too, Guts! And since Hasbro/DD messed with the classic character designs a million times already, it's almost a given. I can live with it. But like Rotty said, that don't look anything like Tunnel-Rat to me.

drveovru2 08-02-2005, 06:19 PM Give me Donald Duck! :D
funny,
I say give me.. Mickey Mouse........................as long as it is a mm cobra commander....
I sure wish i had audio, i would like to hear the voices..
Blight 08-02-2005, 06:32 PM This series looks like its going to blow the old Sunbow cartoon away and generate a big surge of interest in G.I. Joe. The line keeps getting reinvented over and over again but it's remained true to its 80's version pretty solidly over the last 5 years. The big problem is that we have had to settle with crappy American CGI cartoons for our Joe fix and it KILLED the 3 3/4 line in retail. Now while I probably won't be buying the toys (well, maybe the B.A.T.) come September I'm going to be glued to my television set every Saturday morning.
Now if we had an Anime series like this then maybe we'd still be getting the RAH stuff at TRU and Target.
Fact of matter is the American animation industry can't hold a candle to Japan's and the trailer for this new show is the proof!
Hasbro finally wised up and did what I would have at the begining of the RAH line's relaunch and make a Joe Anime series, and guess what - IT LOOKS UNBELIEVEABLY COOL!
I realize some fans will always be stuck in the 80's with big grimaces on their faces, and anti-foreign prejudices when it comes to animation (even though the irony there is that most of the toons of the 80's were animated in Asia), but for those of us who've been waiting for the day when we could see G.I. Joe reach the apex of animation standards, IE as a Japanese Anime, September 10th our wish comes true.
Bring on Sigma 6!

;)
It is meant to generate new interest from the younger generations, & reinventing the line is going to be necessary from time to time.

I agree, the cgi animation leaves us wanting, but you do have to admit, it's come a long way from Max Headroom  . I also plan to get a S6 B.A.T., maybe a couple, but I really don't think that the cgi animation contributed to the waning interest in Joes. As far as being glued to the set in September, I'm guessing a lot of us will be watching the first episode. The quality of the animation and storyline will determine how many of us tune in for the second week.

Well, we will have the series, & it looks like the S6 line will be at most major retailors. What point were you trying to make there?
As far as US vs Japanese style, it's just a trend. Trends do sell product, & it makes sense for Hasbro to market that way. If you want to compare quality, I suppose you could compare frame rate or cells per minute, but either way it all comes down to current consumer interests.

You need to realize that there is a differance between prejudices & preferances. Cool is also a matter of perspective. I am among those who don't care for the anime style of animation, but I've said several times that I'll reserve judgement until I've seen an episode or two. This isn't prejudice at all, simply a style preferance. I do agree, though, I am looking forward to September 10th to see what Hasbro & Gonzo have come up with. I have no doubt at all that they will impress the market they are going for - pre-teen kids, but I am hoping that I will also be entertained by what they've come up with.
Pit Viper 08-02-2005, 07:30 PM I find it funny that people get all bent out of shape about a G.I.JOE anime becasue it supposed to be "A Real American Hero" but don't seem to care that the figures are produced in Red China.
Rotty 08-02-2005, 08:44 PM Well, not really. I'd say it's a very legitimate complaint, & really my only holdout on the new line. Remember, a lot of us 30-somethings grew up with the impression/stereotype, whichever, that most things Japanese, anime included, were substandard.
Yet I've never seen people single out the episodes of the Sunbow cartoon animated in Japan instead of Korea as unworthy of "a Real AMERICAN Hero". Besides, if someone is going to take the franchise's subtitle that seriously, they need to start by boycotting the action figures and the old cartoons. The only RAH merchandise that has ever been made in the United States is the comic books.

You're right. I should have been more clear, that wasn't really the part I was replying to. I meant the style can be a turn off, but as many here have said, it can also be an attraction. Where it was actually produced shouldn't normally make any differance.
My comments about old stereotypes were only meant to explain where this viewpoint might have started. I didn't mean to imply anything offensive or demeaning.
heavy_water 08-02-2005, 10:37 PM Why do they have Duke wearing blue? IMO, it should be olive drab.

Right, gotcha.
Rotty 08-02-2005, 10:47 PM Why do they have Duke wearing blue? IMO, it should be olive drab.
Duke is blue because the GI Joe fandom hates him. :(
Richard J. 08-02-2005, 11:59 PM As someone who once had a severe prejudice toward Anime, I think the series looks fantastic. (Wish I could have heard it though.)
The one problem I have with it is this obsession with BATs. Can't we please see Vipers and Crimson Guards and other human soldiers? If kids can read about beloved characters dying in Harry Potter, surely they can watch lasers narrowly missing humans.
Anyway, think it looks great. I didn't realize Tunnel Rat was in it. Don't mind the blue Duke too much, although I agree he should have been in olive drab. I think Scarlett and Jinx look beautiful. Yeah, Scarlett looks a little young but I've always liked that about Anime. If nothing else, her look in this is an improvement over the Valor vs. Venom look.
The action looks smooth and the backgrounds and vehicles look great.
Overall, I'm very interested. I just hope the stories aren't too off the wall and that we see some living flesh and blood Cobras. I know BATs are cheap but come on!

Gosh, I sure hope so. A lack of flesh and blood grunts could toss a bucket of cold water on my enthusiasm for this show. Since when do terrorist organizations consist of a handful of people and platoons of robots?

Exactly.
I always loved watching the "walk of shame" when the Cobra troops were defeated and the Joes would march them into a truck or something. There was something really funny about it.
BATs are great and I'm even withholding an opinion on the mech suits until I see more, but a big part of the fun of watching the original cartoon was listening to the Cobra troops. I loved in "The Germ" when the two Cobra troopers were talking and one of them was being condescending toward the Crimson Guard. It was something like "Elite? Hah! We're the ones who do all the work around here."
It's going to suck not having moments like that.
Richard J.
Obiwanjacoby 08-03-2005, 03:45 AM Duke is blue because the GI Joe fandom hates him. :(
LOL! You guys are on a roll tonight. You're right. What is it with writers and Duke? He just freaks people out. Even Hama said in an interview that he couldn't do anything w/him. C'mon, he's Duke! What's the problem here?
I always loved watching the "walk of shame" when the Cobra troops were defeated and the Joes would march them into a truck or something. There was something really funny about it.
I never thought of it that way, wow. When I think back, yeah I liked that too. The old "Wah-wah, Cobra lost again shtick". :p They were SO frustrated looking when they got marched into the stockade or wherever.
It's going to suck not having moments like that.
Oh, they've got to. It's an anime staple to give the villains greater depth. I don't believe Studio Gonzo would make 'em all silent faceless, clones.
Here's to a hopeful first season. Great thread guys!

Robot Rabbit 08-03-2005, 09:27 AM Well, not really. I'd say it's a very legitimate complaint, & really my only holdout on the new line. Remember, a lot of us 30-somethings grew up with the impression/stereotype, whichever, that most things Japanese, anime included, were substandard.
Really? Hmmm....I never had that impression growing up. In fact I thought just the opposite. Shows like Voltron and especially Robotech, I thought, were much better than most American shows at the time.
Since the market for this, though, is kids who are roughly in the 10-year-old age group, this is perfect for them. With their exposures to Pokemon, Digimon, Dragonballz, & this type of toyline & cartoons, this is very similar in style to what they are already interested in.
Sigh. How right you are. And sadly, I--as a 30 year old--am so tired of Anime these days. Now it's just cheaper to take a show and translate it into English than to actually come up with something original. And the show they translate doesn't even have to be GOOD...it just has to have a lot of toys.
Hopefully, this new GI Joe show will blend the best of both worlds.
gutstheberserker 08-03-2005, 09:48 AM Growing up I always liked the anime style better than American. I remember watching Speed Racer and Battle of the Planets (Gatchaman) in the late 70s and then Robotech (Macross, Genesis Climber Mospeada, and Southern Cross in Japan) and liking it much more than Thundar or Space Ghost. Even Transformers was made in Japan and some consider it to be an "anime." http://www.animenation.net/news/askjohn.php?id=210
Even today, I'd put Naruto up against any American cartoon and the storylines in some of the more mature anime blow away the best America has to offer. How can you compare anime like Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Jin-Roh, 12 Kingdoms, Hakkenden, Macross, and Berserk to Hanna Barbera? It's like comparing ARAH to Chuck Norris and his Karate Commandos. ;)

LOL! Boy are you ever right on the money with that one! Chuck Norris? I almost forgot he actually once had a toyline.
Well, not really. I'd say it's a very legitimate complaint, & really my only holdout on the new line. Remember, a lot of us 30-somethings grew up with the impression/stereotype, whichever, that most things Japanese, anime included, were substandard.
Boy can I ever DISAGREE with that one. Even when I was a 5 year old and saw Robotech for the first time I realized it was superior to everything else on TV and I didn't even know it was Japanese. Skip ahead to age 13 and I get into the first wave of direct to video Anime stuff to hit video stores in the states and am blown away by every show and film I get my hands on and permenantly label American animation as SUBSTANDARD, because guys if you're going to compare this new show any 'American' animated show out there in terms of quality you need a reality check.

Well since the younger generation is already hooked, somewhat into Anime (on account most of the stuff the networks feed them is not the creep of the Anime crop) maybe G.I. Joe might get the kind of attention it had back when we were kids and actually become popular again.
As someone who once had a severe prejudice toward Anime, I think the series looks fantastic. (Wish I could have heard it though.)
The one problem I have with it is this obsession with BATs. Can't we please see Vipers and Crimson Guards and other human soldiers?
Welcome to the fold my friend. As to not seeing any Vipers or CGs in this series I'm ticked too but don't complain to Hasbro, complain to this country's various censorship organizations. If Hasbro had contracted GONZO to make this show for our age demographic we might have actually gotten a full on bloodbath or two like in Hellsing or Burst Angel. But since it's for kids we've got to deal with overreactionary yuppy anal politicians and parents going "No, no, you can't do that!"
Why do they have Duke wearing blue? IMO, it should be olive drab.
Olive drab. Yeah, that color's done wonders for his popularity. Maybe the blue will be a good change, I always though it was a more appropriate color for the good guys rather then for COBRA.
rodney 08-04-2005, 03:40 PM sorry didnt realise there was a trailer, I thought this had shelved or something! and what do I find a trailer! which is awesome! Obviously were gonna see more than just BATs. Seeing the Troops in the ARAH be bitter toward higher ranks is very funny. Im sure we'll get some classic moments like that. Kids anime has alot of things like this. I for one cannot wait for this! It looks violent enough for a Saturday morning cartoon. I want to see what all the Cobra's look like now!!
SoulcatcherX 08-04-2005, 05:27 PM My kids came running out of thier room today to tell me they had just seen a commercial for S6 on the Cartoon Network. They thought it was awesome and went into sputtering detail over what they had seen.
This shows promise for the series I'd speculate.
Did I mention both my kids are girls? :p
Ghost X 08-04-2005, 07:25 PM Is anyone else thinking the lack of sound is suspect?
I enjoyed many anime shows as a kid (especially Force Five & Star Blazers), but it was because of the mature storytelling, not the particular type of animation. I think the quality of the story is going to determine whether this series is a hit or miss. What I am worried about is the common flaw of many of these Japanese imports and that being terrible audio in terms of music & dialogue. Poor translation sometimes makes it nearly impossible to follow the story, the tone of the characters voices is usually off given the scene, and the music can be completely inappropriate for the pacing of the show. (i. e. Transformers Cybertron) I realize this is usually due to sloppy transitioning to the American version, so I am hoping this will not be the case with Sigma Six. Though I enjoyed SEEING the trailer, I am not going to get my hopes up until I HEAR it as well:)
Regarding Duke's blue uniform, it seems that his character has been re-imagined as an underwater expert. If you look at the pictures from the con, you can see his SCUBA gear & read his bio card.
orionlukteel 08-05-2005, 01:18 PM I got to see the trailer at the SDCC (like many poeple did at the Joe Con). I took a clip on my camera (no sound, unfortunately), but I honestly have to say I was impressed overall.
I've read through the thread and note that a lot of people grew up on the same shows I did, including Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets. I can honestly say I've never seen more care taken with detail than in anime. Some of it sucked, true, but overall, I've been pleasantly surprised.
Try the older Bubblegum Crisis series or the first Sol Bianca movie if you want to see anime done right. Akira was okay, but got a little, I dunno, "off" for me.
Keep in mind that a many of the Sunbow cartoons were produced in Asia, whether Japan or not I don't remember. And despite that, the quality sometimes left something to be desired.
I get a different feel watching anime - the colors seem more appropriate and properly blended, everything just looks more *alive*. No lazy re-hashes of launch sequences, etc. No recyled sounds from Star Wars or the Transformers cartoon.
Don't get me wrong, I dig the old Sunbow stuff overall. But I like the anime take a little more. I think you'll be surprised - pleasantly - when you see an overall episode of Sigma 6. This is NOT going to be Ed, Ed, and Eddy, nor will it be Teen Titans.
I agree - Scarlett does look a bit young. But I'm taking that into consideration with the anime theme.
Hey, look on the bright side - it looks like a serious cartoon done in anime style, meaning we will NEVER again see Snake-Eyes disguised as Boy George - or breakdancing.:D
Bottom line? my 11-year-old son is completely geeked about Sigma 6. And he's the one that has to pick up where we leave off.
roboticplanet 08-05-2005, 09:41 PM If I want to see REAL anime with superhuman powers for every character like falling a half mile to the ground with hardly a grunt, or people running 100 mph or fast streaking lines for any action scene, I'll watch Dragonball or Ninja Scroll. What I saw in that clip (but didn't hear :) ) wasn't GI Joe.
I agree the animation is good, its hard not to be these days. I wonder though how close the characters will be to the originals - the ones that made Sigma Six possible. It's clearly catering to a younger crowd, which is why I understand why Hasbro has done what they have. They do need to keep up with new generations. However, like Transformers is going through and He Man went through it's just the same formula over and over again.
That said, here's my predictions for sigma 6:
If the show lasts more than a season, we'll see "enhanced" versions each subsequent season, like : "GI Joe: Armada", or "GI Joe: Super Fast Flashing Ultra Force Death Squad Commandos Team..." or such. :)
If the former occurs, there's going to be some special feature for each subsequent season and toy line. Like all characters have neon super weapons or something.
We'll know each action before it happens, because characters will announce it to us
There will be 100's, maybe 1000's (millions perhaps??) of enemies attacking almost every episode, and the same 6 (thats how many Joes there are, right?) will win, easily.
Everyone will know how to fight like a ninja, even Snake Eyes.
At times characters will have larger than life mouths, perhaps eyes that bug out, or maybe that pesky tear drop that appears when someone is embarrased
A lot of things won't make sense and you'll realize if you were 5 you'd have no problem with it :D
Ok, I admit, now I want to see this show just to see if my stereoty...I mean predictions - hold up.

Ever read the Marvel series? ;)
They looped (repeat) looped a freakin' Tomahawk helicopter.

RAD!!!
Night Creeper Leader: "Now, witness my Flying-Arishikage-Soul-Power-Blade-Domination!!!!"

King Hiss 08-05-2005, 11:34 PM I never was a fan of anime, but this looks 100 times better than the crappy movies they gave us recently. I'd take this style of cartoons before that crap. It does look more promising than the movies, so I hope it does well. I know nothing will ever be like the old toon, but I am looking forward to this new series.
GothicZanya 08-06-2005, 12:08 AM um you did not forget the old gijoe cartoons of sunbow and DIC.

If you're expecting this to be like the Sunbow toon forget it. We may never get an animated version of G.I. Joe even remotely close to that show, but after the last two attempts Hasbro made at trying to get the Joes their own series anything I think the community would agree would be a step in the right direction. And since G.I. Joe's been trying for the past 4 years, unsuccessfully as a whole I might add for the younger generation, to become popular such a radical redefinition of some of the characters might also be a good thing.
Who knows if both the show and online products do well we may soon get to see the new DTC versions of Mutt, Footloose, Major Bludd, Scrap Iron and others on the series. **** most of the designs for most of COBRA's personnel are either traditional or taken from the VvV line.
I don't know how well the series will do but I'm predicting it'll be at least somewhat of a success because I familiar with the studio that made it and they don't do second hand work, even for what people might consider strictly a 'kids show'. Plus I wouldn't be counting on too many Anime on screen stereotypes, those are usually for Japanese and Anime fan only audiences so don't worry you're safe from the pesky tear drops.
And if we get huge on screen battles then . . . WHAT ARE YOU COMPLAINING ABOUT! Has everyone forgotten that one of the staples of the Sunbow series was that at the end of practically every episode we had a battalion's worth of Joes and COBRA troops slugging it out and we all loved it.
This is G.I. Joe, just another new version, like the 12" line was for our fathers, the 3 3/4" was for us and this will be for another generation, just different. Just take what you like from it (if anything) and - leave the rest.
roboticplanet 08-06-2005, 12:40 AM Ok, ok maybe my point wasn't clear...
In my fabulous predictions I'm saying they're just using a template that's just proven to get ratings and what it takes to be a modern anime cartoon. True, all the points Obiwan makes are valid, but I'm not saying, for example, huge army against a small band is bad, LOTR did show that.
The original cartoon, the Marvel comics, and LOTR had an important thing I just don't see Sigma 6 including: strong characters. We all know Gandalf and Shipwreck and Snake Eyes and a lot of the other individuals in each series. But what this anime template allows for is a weak story so room for all the anime stuff can be there, building up to the next flashy fight scene. We'll never see a story or get personable characters. That's my only real criticism.
I make these predictions partly based on how the current Transformers line is working out. The same thing over and over again for the last 3 years; completely unoriginal every season. To make it worse, Hasbro isn't even making the show themselves, they're just buying it from Japan. Those cheap bastards...
roboticplanet 08-06-2005, 12:48 AM I familiar with the studio that made it and they don't do second hand work, even for what people might consider strictly a 'kids show'. Plus I wouldn't be counting on too many Anime on screen stereotypes, those are usually for Japanese and Anime fan only audiences so don't worry you're safe from the pesky tear drops.
If that's the case, then that changes everything. It's got some hope for it yet.
It seems too many cartoons are trying to be anime-ish. The newer He-Man had too many anime stereotypes, and for me, that attempt quickly turned me off.

Yeah but in the case of the new He-Man what you were getting was an American studio trying to imitate Japanese Anime, and doing a poor job, rather then an actual Anime studio producing the show. Those kinds of rip offs always do badly and turn off a lot of potential fans. But I fear that some American toy companies fear that an American audience will be prejudiced against a show with such a foreign influence (gee, can't imagine why?).
However after 'Spybomb' and 'Ugly vs. Uglier' it seems Hasbro wised up and actually decided to go to the source of all the good animated shows these days and went straight to Japan.
Plus if anyone is making predictions based off the current popularity of the new Transformers show as to how Sigma 6 will fair just because GONZO did both shows, don't. Remember, Transformers is a title that is made for TWO audiences not one, Japanese and American. And unfortunately as many already know, the Japanese audience tends to get a better cut of whatever TF series is airing rather then the watered down version we here in America get. Believe me, when I saw the first treatment of Transformers: Cybertron on CN I wanted to rip my hair out at how Hasbro had allowed GONZO's version of Transformers to be butchered so badly for American mass consumption.
However since Sigma 6 is being made EXCLUSIVELY for us the Joe fan community is going to be dealing with an entirely different scenario. We're getting a show featuring a Japanese art form, usually reserved for only a Japanese audience (and those few worldwide Anime fans), strictly for an American audience.
So I urge everyone not to make predictions on how popular this show may or may not be until after someone at MC or Hasbro or FOX starts saying what about what. Personally my fingers are crossed because I want this series to last at least a couple hundred episodes and feature TWICE the number of characters the Sunbow toon had.
Clutch II 08-06-2005, 02:00 AM bah i predict this show will Belly flop big time :p :p
Deadman2099 08-06-2005, 08:20 AM hmm, i just spent a couple hours watching the "fox box" in order to catch the GI JOE Sigma 6 trailer...
if that's the theme song they're going to use... wow i'm glad the audio didn't work on the downloadable trailer :P
i'm stunned at how junky new cartoons are. i'm generalizing, but everything on the fox box seems to be anime and pretty much the same. i do hope i'm wrong and the trailer is just a trailer and the cartoon can be super wicked or something. fine, make it anime, but make it *good* anime with a good story at least. if this fox box stuff is what kids have been watching the past 10 years or so, no wonder there is a pronounced increase in depression in children.
Ghost X 08-06-2005, 12:05 PM I started watching the Fox Box preview late so I missed the Sigma Six portion. Anyone mind writing a vivid description for me? As I stated earlier, I am excited about a new GI Joe cartoon, but reluctant to embrace it until I hear the sound. This early report doesn't make me happy. Anyone able to ease my fears about the sound?
Blight 08-06-2005, 12:23 PM For anyone who didn't see it, you didn't miss anything if you've already seen the trailer on GIJOE.com. There might have been one or two new scenes but nothing significant. I don't care much for the new theme song but otherwise it's still looking damn cool.
FirstSergeantDuke 08-06-2005, 05:17 PM Does anyone know who the 6 members are?? And who will be on the Cobra side??
Thanks.
Obiwanjacoby 08-06-2005, 06:09 PM Um. . .Spirit, Jinx, Kamakura, Duke, SE, Scarlett. . .Heavy Duty is seven. And Tunnel-Rat is also in it.
Edit: And CC & Stormy are on the other side. I also saw a Sigma 6 Destro & Baroness sketch too.
Maybe the Joes just go out in six-man teams.
-PJ
FirstSergeantDuke 08-06-2005, 06:14 PM Cool thanks.
In that group picture on that 4kids site.
There's Duke, Scarlet, and SnakeEyes were obviously in there.
And the big guy in the back, I guess that's Heavy Duty.
But those 2 guys on the side, were those Tunnel rat and Spirit??
That guy with the trench coat looks like Flint but I guess not.
Obiwanjacoby 08-06-2005, 06:43 PM That guy with the trench coat looks like Flint but I guess not.
Ohhh. . .I didn't notice him! Check out that sniper rifle he's toting!
He never appeared in the preview. Neither did Spirit. But the Spirit figure doesn't look anything like the dude in the trench. . .
. . .with the sweet-sweet sniper rifle. :D
-PJ
FirstSergeantDuke 08-06-2005, 06:49 PM Yeah, those 2 guys in that pic does not look like Tunnel Rat or Spirit.
That guy next to Scarlet looks like an updated Dusty:confused:
ANd that guy whith the trench coat looks like that ToKEn bad a## character who defies the leader.
But they both look cool.
Blight 08-07-2005, 12:27 PM For the Joes I think all of the main characters have already been mentioned.
For COBRA I believe we'll be seeing Cobra Commander, Storm Shadow, Destro, and the Baroness, and possibly Scrap Iron.
Also Zartan as well as some of the Dreadnoks, notably Torch and Buzzer, will also be included in the bad guy's roster. Some of the designs for COBRA's members however will be straight from the Valor vs. Venom line, while others like Zartan and Buzzer look both like they did in the old Sunbow toon.
So for the bad guys we'll be getting a mix of new and old.

Also, there is a S6 B.A.T. toy that will be released, so I'm sure that they will be in the cartoon. Technically, though, they might be equipment, not charactors. ;)
Deadman2099 08-07-2005, 02:19 PM man... i really do hope the cartoon succeeds and is really well written, the animation is fine.
but... considering the best bit of animation ever was Batman: The Animated Series, i don't see what all the American 'toon bashing is about ;)
I just hope that the sigma 6 breaks away from all the junk on the fox box but from the theme song... it looks like it fits right in with the Mew Mew Power, and Winx Club cartoons :P
Chiisu 08-07-2005, 06:33 PM Whoa.... It was like... Japanese Anime styled... I liked how snake eyes looked though... It looks pretty cool... I'll watch it...
Obiwanjacoby 08-07-2005, 08:14 PM I went to the 4Kids site and I didn't see anything else on Sigma 6. I hope it's not a late arrival. :(
-PJ
Blight 08-07-2005, 11:43 PM The 4Kids website probably won't have anything up until the series starts airing September 10th, and maybe not even after that.
I'd stick to monitoring GIJOE.com for any real updates or further info.
The MASS Device 08-08-2005, 12:35 PM I hope to stay young at heart for a long time and be open to new things even if they are different from what I grew up with. Life is meant to be enjoyed, not memorialized and mourned. I like to give new things a chance before I pass judgment. Could this cartoon be stupid? Sure, there are lots of stupid cartoons. Could it be great? It's looking pretty good so far. I have good hopes for it.
KolobosRexx 08-08-2005, 02:13 PM The guy in the Trench is Long Range. (saw him in the 2nd toys wave) And I don't think the Sigma-6 literally means only 6 members... From what's in the toys & preview combined, we have:
1.Duke
2.Scarlett
3.Snake-eyes
4.Heavy Duty
5.Tunnel Rat
6.Spirit Iron Knife
7.Long Range
8.Kamakura
9.Jinx
So I would say there's probably a bigger team than we thought...

Cool!! So that new guy with the trench coat is Long Range.
So now in that Sigma Six Group pic in GIJoe.com is:
1. Duke in front
2. Scarlett on his left
3. Snake Eyes on his right
4. Heavy Duty the BIG GUy on the back
5. Long Range on Duke's left end
6. Now who is that guy between Duke and Scarlett??
He does not look like Spirit or Tunnel Rat.
He looks like an updated Dusty??
Ghost X 08-24-2005, 04:49 PM Just checked out the new offical website for Sigma Six. It has the new bios for the main Joe characters. It looks like they are significantly changing around the lore. IMO, I have no problem with a "re-imagined" GI Joe. I just hope that Snake-Eyes doesn't talk:)

Well put. The character continuity is like an anime version of "Reloaded". Also of note from that page: Scarlett is a helicopter pilot. I still have a positive feeling about this show, despite these "red flags" popping up. :D
-PJ
Blight 08-25-2005, 02:32 AM My faith is unshaken and will probably remain so. I could care less about the bios, every new frame I get to see of this show demonstrates just how much skill went into making it and I am estatic.
the scarecrow 08-26-2005, 07:36 PM We need to take the good with the bad. The good is G.I. Joe again on tv; the bad, as japanese super violent porn cartoons ;). With that said, I'm recording the preview tomorrow.
Animation aside, I hope the plot lines are well conceived.
dendariiprime 08-27-2005, 12:20 AM i'm sorry, but this would be 10 times cooler if this was VALOR VS. VENOM!!!
