there was a prototype CC sold on ebay several months ago. (it went for about $100). There was some debate as to what it actually was.
However, after searching for about 15mins, I cant find the thread, sorry.
Someone else should be able to help more.

Ok... The figure was very similar to the Sigma 6 version of CC armor wise wearing a removable hood. I have watched 3 of them sell at 1 for $100.00, 1 for $63.00, and 1 for $76.00. A certain unnamed place had one recently without a head listed at about $40.00. I believe they said it was from a cancelled run, but cannot remember the name.

it was from something called robot rebellion, I think it was supposed to show up before Valor Vs Venom but I could be wrong about that

That commander showed up last summer on e bay along with a v vs v repaint of the wave 4 purple firefly. The firefly was repainted in colors closer to the 1984 v1 figure. I was told that cobra commander was to be in the first wave of robot rebellion. The next theme after the valor vs venom line ended.
When the change to Dtc was made Hasbro did not put that commander into production. The reason is most collecters were sick of seeing 9000 versions of core characters such as cobra commander, snake eyes and storm shadow ect. The Dtc line is meant to focus on obscure characters such as grandslam ect. That being said it will be interesting to see what the new gijoe team does with waves five and six of dtc. I think it would be great if they released that commander on a single card. I think it might show up in the future either as a single card or a 6 pack of cobra core. I mean if the figure got that far into production it had to cost hasbro.

One wonders why bother wearing chest to toe armor but have a mere hood over your head?

Actually some Action Force Issues showed 1987 Battle Armor CC with his old hood instead of a helmet.

Yeah, I passed on that grey Firefly based on the idea that it was going to be released in one of these DTC waves. That seemed to be the consensus at the time. So far, I am regretting this decision. That Firefly figure is very nice, and I wish I had one...

Darn... you see what happens when you miss a day on the boards? I knew exactly what he was talking about as I had helped put that page together, but PJ beat me to the punch. Oh well, I can't be the traffic cop for all links to the archives...hehe. :D

I really wouldn't be suprised if we still see this figure released. It costs a good amount of money to get that far along in the production process. I can't imagine Hasbro would want to waste it.

But that was just the figure w/o any accessories. The complete fig went for at least $50+ and usually over $100
