Man I used to spend hours and a small fortune every week at arcades...

Here are some that took more of my quarters then others:

Super Mario Brothers (the arcade version had levels that were a little different, and was harder then the NES ver, as I recall)

Strider

Tron

Pac-Man

Centipede

Solomon’s Key

Street Fighter II

Mortal Kombat

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Tetris

Donkey Kong

Klax

X-Men

Silkworm

Burger Time

When I get tired of all our new fancy modern games, and feel like a need a little break, I still play these old timers on emulators (MAME is the greatest thing ever)…just something comforting about the old quarter munchers.

Bad Dudes
Ninja Gaiden
Shinobi
Simpsons (again, more quarters sucked)
X-men (dang Konami games....)

Joust was a favorite of mine. I also got quite good at Samori Showdown 2. They had it inside the sandwitch shop I worked at when I was 18. Since I was usually working the place by myself or with my buddy, we managed to squeeze in a game here and there. :)

In the arcade, Operation: Wolf, and Roadblaster's.

OH, and I am pretty sure it was called Final Fight. That's the only fighting game I really liked. It was one where you had to rescue a sister or something. AT the end, if you got your tail kicked, they'd show your character tied up with a timebomb, and BOOM!

Oh, and one that is really older, is Buck Rogers. I liked that one.

And, Rush 2049 most recently. I've wasted so much $ on that one, but since it had the memory PIN thing and one could save progress every play, it made it so much more fun!

I can't believe it took this long for someone to mention the sit-down version of Afterburner. :D
I'm still on the hunt for one of those for home use.

Otherwise my top older games are

Tempest
Zaxxon
Centipede
Elevator Action
Operation: Wolf
Galaga
1942
Tron (want to find one of those too)
Robotron

We need to start another thread for pinball machines. :D
