SO I bought Arctic Snake-eyes today and when I put my case together there was no foam insert as in with the first series. I liked the foam so now your just supposed to throw it all in the box what's the point. What's with the annoying blinking red light I know there is a secret code on the back does it mean anything. Just wondering. By the way the small S6 line is bombing around here but the 8 inch are still doing very well, sold out at Target, Wal-mart and a couple other small places, not k-mart though must be the higher price. I was hoping for a sale this season no luck so Snake-eyes is the only one I got so far but I have seen all the rest, probably going to get Destro next.

As said NUMEROUS times before, the blinky light is marketing gimmick to catch kids attention at retail. The secret code is a new element, and one of Lt. Stone's accessories is actually a decoder.
As far as the foam, for cost reasons: the foam is not only VERY pricey itself, not to mention the time and tooling costs for cutting it (each insert needs its own cutting pattern, which raises costs), but to a large extent, it isn't as needed. Kids probably don't care, and increasingly, the accessories are bigger than can be handled by the foam insert.

We will continue to get the high volume of accessories and high quality figures, but Hasbro is also making more unique background art instead of the static gold and red/green we've seen in the line thus far.

you all are all wrong. the blinking light is moris code that is telling the kids to tell there parents to buy me. blink blink blink
and yes it works (stupid light)

btw foam is expensive. i work in the furniture industry and can tell you for fact that with the rising cost of petrolium that foam prices go up too. one key ingredient in making foam is petrolium.

now you know and knowing is half the battle

I've only picked up a few Sigma figs and I thought the foam inserts in the case was a great idea, helps you keep track of all the extra accessories. The Zartan and battle helmet CC I got are both from the same wave (I think) and they both had the foam. Is this a mid wave change?

I believe it was announced somewhere that the foam inserts are being discontinued. Wouldn't be surprised if CC, Zartan, and Lt. Stone are the last to have them. If foam has indeed become as expensive to produce as mentioned in this thread, that's undoubtedly the reason.

The blinky light is strictly a marketing gimmick. Look at it as getting two free AA batteries that probably still have a bit of life left in them. Use them in your TV remote or digital camera. :D

If you check out pics of the next 2 Commando waves, the foam inserts are all gone, replaced by posed figures with unique backdrops:

<sarcasm> Finally a Sigma 6 DUKE, SNAKE EYES, & STORM SHADOW!!</sarcasm>

Kudos to Hasbro for the Grand Slam though. Fortunately for my wallet, none of these do anything for me.

As far as the blinky light goes...marketing it may be...but take a look at the file card on the back of the package if it's got a light. The 2 I bought with a light also had a strip of code along the side of the card. Hold the light up to the code...As if you can't figure it out on your own...and it nuetralizes the red bars so you can read the "hidden" lettering. And don't count on the batteries powering anything more than that little light. My tester said both sets were practically dead on arrival...just enough juice for the incessant blinking light...
