smokehouse 10-30-2007, 09:33 PM You know, to be honest with you, I’m not the biggest fan of the new series but what I can say is that the packaging is awesome. I never intend on opening my sets/figures simply because the display so well. The retro art is what really wins it for me. As for the figures, they’re a bit too “modern” for me but like I said, the individual packs hanging on the wall are really nice looking.
It’s a win/lose in my book. In one hand you have overly modern, exaggerated figures, on the other, amazing packaging and supreme displaying qualities.
My vote, just don’t open them and build quality will never be a problem.

82to87Joes 10-30-2007, 10:07 PM yeah i got to check out a v2 snake eyes loose tonight as well and i gotta say its typical new sculpt junk. never fails i always open up the new figures and then regret it. however i love the packaging and i think the figures look cool, i just dont see the playability at all. if i was a kid i dont think i would enjoy playing with them at all. i plan on getting a few more but they will all stay in the package
kurthalsey 10-30-2007, 10:15 PM It's the packaging I can't stand. They just abused all those wonderful paintings from the '80's IMHO. And don't get me started on the Rowdy Piper artwork... whoever did that painting is not very good at their craft.
Snake-eyes01 10-30-2007, 10:17 PM That's why I'm leaving all mine on the card! This allows them to display nicely & I'm afraid if I open them & try & display them I may become a hater as well! :(
samluvsjoes 10-30-2007, 10:23 PM I love them (for the most part). There are a few poor design choices, but then again Joe originally was straight-arm, which sucks hardcore (except from a novelty viewpoint).

most of you are saying that you wont open them and that if you do that youll probably not like the figures, so whats the point in buying them then? why dont you just buy originals instead?
also, about the whole playability thing, are these figures only for display, only for the kids from the 80s? what about the kids of today that are always hearing from us telling them how they missed out and got the garbage toys of today, and now they finally say to themselves, ok ill buy these gijoes, maybe i didnt miss out then and then they open them and start playing with these power rangers and then theyll start thinking that these were the real gijoes from the 80s and they didnt miss out on anything,
i hate these figures, i got one and will never buy again, unless they seriously change the sculpt, man i really feel sorry for the people buying these for like $20-25 a fig
freak4ll 10-30-2007, 10:46 PM Personally, I think from a mold stand point they are actually superior to the original. I don't put weapons on them or have even tried to get them to stand on there own so I can't comment on that. The detail though is flat out awesome. The ones I have so far are clearly the definitive versions ever put out by Hasbro. I wouldn't pay 20-25 bucks for them, my cap for any joe is actually 10 bucks. I love the ones I have so far though.
Pit Viper 10-30-2007, 11:00 PM I mentioned on another board that I felt the reason so many people think this line is so great is the packaging. I was told I was wrong but I still believe it to be true. When Hasbro first came out with G.I. Joe vs Cobra people created a petition to bring back the o-ring because nobody could stand the thought of 3 3/4" Joe figures with a different construction. Now we get the 25th line and they are in a different scale, no o-ring, hands molded closed, can't sit down, can barely hold their weapons, fall over easily, etc. and people are loving them? I can tolerate maybe half of these issues personally but it's just too much. Of course to be fair the figures do look pretty good for the most part but they are essentially just statues and are lacking in the "action figure" department. At least by normal Joe standards. If you are going to give us a line of Joes that don't really work with the other ones produced between 1982 and 2005 they had better at least be able to sit down in a vehicle.
Desert Fox 10-31-2007, 02:01 AM I love them. The packaging doesn't even fit into the equation, since I display them all loose, and clip the file cards. And honestly I don't look at them as continuation of the old line, but more of an homage to the originals, so personally, I'm not bothered that they aren't carbon copies of their predecessors.
But hey, to each his own, means one less person to compete with. :p
therobidentity 10-31-2007, 02:57 AM There are plenty of complaints, and I'll agree that they could be better, but I like them a lot. There's issues with posability, and I hate "fists" (especially on the right hand, like Shipwreck), but you can pull off some pretty cool poses with a little imagination. :) For example, I picked up a Night Ops Humvee to display my Joe 5-pack, and I couldn't get Gung Ho to sit, so I had him lean out the window with his grenade-launcher like he's targeting someone.

I like the new trooper as well, but I'm disappointed that none of the figures seem to be able to do "Present Arms". (Rifle held muzzzle-up in front of the center of the chest, magazine outward.) However, I was able to get my troops into dynamic poses exiting from the APC rear of my '05 HISS, and while I'm not able to get them to Present Arms, right now I have the troops, driver, and air trooper approximating a salute from Right Shoulder Arms while my Officer renders a hand salute and CC returns it. I would much rather have the ability to have them Present Arms, but it still makes for a nice mini-dio. It's a little precarious, since the rifles are balanced on their palms, and I'd like it better if I could get the left arms fully horizontal, but I still think it looks pretty good for the figures' limitations.

dreams deferred 10-31-2007, 04:50 AM I love them. The packaging doesn't even fit into the equation, since I display them all loose, and clip the file cards. Well said. I'm not especially fond of the foil on the cards - it nearly ruins it for me. And to all those who can't stand the figures up... you must not be very manually dexterous. All mine stand perfectly even without stands (I hate figure stands.)
As for them not being carbon copies - I'm glad they're more detailed most of the time but I'm very glad they keep all of the color and design elements mostly the same. Putting the new figures next to the old ones looks great for most of them.
CobraGang 10-31-2007, 07:51 AM The only thing I don't like about these figures is that they're hard to find. Everything else about this line is awesome to me. Whoever else hates this line should jump out a Tomahawk without a parachute. :D
djett 10-31-2007, 08:35 AM but I'm not a fan, the hunt for them was fun but anti-climatic once I opened them. the detail is nice and I love working holsters and knife sheaves. but they look to gangly for me and don't fit with the rest of my joe's. they stand out too much. I do hate that they don't move at the waist and instead twist their torso's like a bad exorcist movie. The package is nice, but I don't leave anything MOC, so that dosent do it for me.
I still play with my joe's, the playability of these is really poor. And that (for Me) is that.
