View Full Version : So anyone here going to shop on Black Friday?
XtremeWRATH360 11-21-2007, 02:55 PM Or should i ask anyone crazy enough to get that 20 dollar dvd player that was made in some country we never heard of only to have it break in 2 months. :p
As for me i work that day in retail, but thank god i don't have to work till 11am.
Syna3sthesia 11-21-2007, 02:59 PM I don't have a deathwish!!! :D
The crowds are insane...I will wait to shop some other day!
Super Sport 11-21-2007, 03:21 PM Never again.
FireFox91 11-21-2007, 05:38 PM I will never do the doorbuster thing. Total waste of time in most cases. And there is the hostility factor that these store create by advertising a $5 plasma TV but only have 3 in stock. :(
However, I am going to Target Friday morning before work. It will be after the doorbuster so I don't have to deal with that. I want to pick up those Target exclusive Star Wars sets. I don't think they are advertised and they arn't a super hot price at $50 each. I hope to get those and get to work without too much fuss. We'll see.
XtremeWRATH360 11-21-2007, 07:27 PM Personally if someone got me something from one of these doorbuster deals on Black Friday i will slap them for being cheap on me. :p
r07a23c 11-21-2007, 08:09 PM No way! I love a bargain, but.... Let's just say I prefer the 2 hour drive on a a 2-lane highway in the deep country of South Carolina to fighting crowds at the crack of dawn. And let's also say it's a drive I despise making. Still prefer it. ;)
YELSEW 11-21-2007, 10:08 PM I will be up. I am every year. Although, I have to say there is nothing I "really need" this year.
COD4 is $48, I might have to p/u that.
cobraferret 11-21-2007, 10:28 PM I am going to buy diapers at tru.
$10 a case
That's it.I have seen way too many fights and violence over stuff that is really garbage. The stores just make a big deal out of 1 or 2 items that are garbage to get you to buy everything else.
Most of the time people buy these "sale" items that don't even want or need them just for the "sale"
and will fight to the death for them:(
yojoebro82 11-22-2007, 10:12 AM "Black Friday" is easily one of America's STUPIDEST traditions.
It's almost like a holiday. A holiday manufactured by retail chains who want to cater to the small percentage of wome....errrrrr....PEOPLE who are nuts enough to go out at 4am and fight with other.....PEOPLE to get "deals" and free stuff. People who don't realise that there's a month left to shop. People who don't realise that they're being handed a free day between a holiday and a Saturday to sleep in and do whatever they want.
Bitter? I've worked EVERY "Black Friday" between two different retail stores for the last 11 years! The only reason I'm going out tomorrow is to work at returns at the Home Depot for 9 hours.
No. I won't be shopping on Black Friday.
Happy Thanksgiving :)
XtremeWRATH360 11-23-2007, 09:04 AM On a side note who came up with the idea for Black Friday i need to know so i may punch them in the face. I think its wrong on the retailers side to shorten peoples Thanksgivings just so they can wake up at the crack of dawn to serve to these animal like customers waiting outside like animals in the freezing cold. I personally would love for this stupid tradition to end so family can have more time together and society can become normal once again, well normal for the most part.:p
Black Friday easily represents EVERYTHING that is wrong with America. The 10 o clock news is coming on in about 2 minutes and they will focus on that for the first five minutes reporting on how sales were good/bad but they will show video after video of people trampling each other to get into the stores and also talk about the tragedies that accompanied some moron who had a heart attack/was trampled/got into a fight, was robbed etc.
Makes me sick
XtremeWRATH360 11-23-2007, 10:58 PM Why is though that it seems every person in retail and most people here realize the ignorance of this yet many people still wait in line in the cold and put their lives and others in danger over really cheap crap.
And btw apparently there were 400 people in line for Target today thats pathetic.
themoney75 11-23-2007, 11:18 PM i will never go shopping on black friday.its only a bargain if you need it.the junk early bird sales are just that junk at a cheap price.i stay at home watch tv or sleep you cant put a price on a little r-r.

If you find him ,hold him for me.I'd like to give him a punch in the belly too.
Shogi 11-24-2007, 01:24 PM Personally, I like going out on Black Friday, not really to buy anything but just weaving in and out of peopple in aisles while I look around and shop for my normal shopping items.
BTW, I saw 3 pegs worth of wave 2 and 3 at Target (That's the most they've ever had at one time!)
I'd still like to see someone at the front of one of those lines being interviewed by the news saying he's only there to pick up some toilet paper or shampoo or something :D
As for the news showing many clips of people getting trampled, there's something you need to know about the news....the only want to show the sensational side of things. That's why when you see them covering some big storm, the anchor will always be in an area with the strongest gust of wind blowing, even though if he took a step to the right or left, there'd be no wind and you'd be able to understand what he's saying....but it wouldn't be exciting
John Missal 11-24-2007, 03:05 PM I was working that day. Ended up that my team of stockers got killed because we needed twice as much staff, and they knew it, we just didn't have the peoplle.

thunt4 11-24-2007, 04:06 PM I used to go when they actually had good deals. Nowadays its all the crap they couldn't sell or nonbody wants. They mark it down some so you think you get a good deal and everyone jumps on it like rabid dogs. I hate going to stores that have an actual good deal only to find they got 3 in.Most stores have had all there sales stuff out for weeks now but only had it advertises on black friday for the same price.I did howevery go to toys r us when they had the buy 2 get one free wii special. I think the whole shopping experience is fun but when the stores only get a few pieces of each item in it kinda ruins it.

I worked retail on Black Friday a few years ago, and had the same problem. However it was even worse as I was sick as a dog, sneezing all over the place. After a few hours, the manager agreed with my co-workers and I, and let me go home. What a scumbag he was. Do you think I would have missed out on the biggest payday in years if I physically didn't have to?
skinny 11-25-2007, 11:56 AM I worked several black fridays
we all gathered up at the front of the store looking at the people lined up a block down the street ( isaw the security footage) we had a short meeting and played "y'all ready for this lets get ready to rumble" over the loudspeaker.
then at 5 am the manager would get on the loudspeaker and say ok go find a safe place to stand im about to open the doors.
then the mad rush I worked back in electronics so it was like a sea of people tearing into the pallet stacks. they would yell where is this and point to their crinkled up ads .
It was a madhouse of people i got mobbed if i left the department for change.
the supervisors let me have a register override key so they wouldnt have to come back there.
i always went over to candy and snacks and grabbed cookies and tore em open and handed em out.
had a good new release playing on the tvs. i remember we had monsters inc for 9.99 one year they were gone real quick.
the day went by fast though that is for sure.
and no I did not go shoppin i had to work ( diff job)
nor did i want to.
Goldbug 11-25-2007, 09:05 PM I didn't go at all. There was one outlet mall that opened at midnight here. I was returning from Thanksgiving at 11pm from my brother's on the tollway. Those crazy shoppers already had the offramp to there backed up. The craziest thing about it was only select stores in the mall were opening. Later I heard the backup was 7 miles long!
My mom went later in the afternoon. Apparently everyone was done by then because she said the stores were pretty empty.
All the people who go shopping at 5am or earlier are the ones who invented black friday.
samluvsjoes 11-26-2007, 06:57 AM I did not nor will I ever shop on Black Friday. I'd rather stay home with my wife and lounge around. The way I figure it is this:
1. Best buy has DVDs on sale, $2.50 each.
2. These DVDs normally run between $5 and $15 on any normal day, meaning I save anywhere from $2.50-$12.50 each on them.
3. The stress of driving around, sitting in traffic, standing in line, avoiding stampedes, etc. make it this much more likely that I will have a heart attack.
4. Heart attacks mean going to the hospital or death. The hospital will cost me thousands, as well as a hike in insurance premiums depending on how crappy my insurer is. A funeral will cost my family thousands...and I'll be dead.
5. Therefore, if I buy the DVDs at normal retail price and refuse to go shopping on Black Friday, I save not only thousands of dollars but also quite possibly my life.
Sounds like quite a bargain to buy them at retail;)
By the way, when I worked at Wal-Mart there was a perecived scarcity of items. They might have a DVD player for sale let's say. When you walked into the store, there were maybe a hundred of them, and people were fighting like mad to get them. Then, once those were gone, wait thirty minutes and...voila! Another pallet or two come rolling out of the back. We had so many of the supposed "deal" items that were "scarce" sitting in the back that it was pathetic.
Silliness. Pure silliness.

Kir Kanos 11-28-2007, 07:05 PM it's funny to see words like "stampede" on this topic. when I worked at best buy several years ago, we had a word for large hordes of customers "stampeding" through the store
