Actually I think this is the #1 cover. It was written so in the top right corner. Will it be a #0 issue, a preview one?

Nevertheless, the art is amazing.

Hmm didnt look that closely supposedly there was a # 0 and it was .99 and I see this one is 1.00 so maybe they scrapped the number zero idea and went for a number one.

Hey this is comic book land, there are hidden recoil suppressors on that thing it shoots like a water gun no recoil at all. In fact it barely makes a noise either. Cobra wont know what hit em.

and why does it say "brand" under the logo?

Issue #0 debuts in October, with the full series beginning in January 2009, written by the master himself, Larry Hama!

 This is really a great new!
Mister Hama, please: respect Your old style...
I hope we can see old characters and vehicles, real weapons and little realistic fights, not unreal "WWIII" without any scenes!

Yo JOE!!!

man, I really hope this doesn't suck... the potential is right there on the cover. (crossing fingers)

LOL! I hope that mini-gun does make Duke spin out of control.

Inside art previews from the SDCC are pretty decent though it's hard to tell for sure since it was in B&W.

Until now, I never thought any parachute could hold a man with a heavy gun. Way to go, Duke!

Well, let's see what we have:

- super cartoonish and exaggerated version of Duke

- big, mostest gianormous gun possible

The whole cover just reeks of ridiculous.

Doesn't bode well folks. Hasbro is on the right track with the GI JOE: Resolute animation, but something is already smelling rotten with this upcoming comic.

Yeah I know, meh.
I'd like a shot tho, ....

Corey,

I completely understand where you are coming from...

But don't shy away due to issue #0. That isn't Robert Atkin's work so it looks like they had a different group working on #0 than #1 and beyond.

Judge the comic after a couple issues past 1, don't base everything on 0. I might even skip 0 depending on what the interiors look with color and wait until 1 comes out in Jan.

OCELOTL are you Gabe Pena?

Tanner

PS: I'd also like to go on the record as saying... Don't judge a book by its cover... The interiors Gabe posted look great. But like someone said earlier, it will depend on how it looks inked and colored.

YJ I can tell you, this isn't issue #1... I'm fairly certain this is going to be issue #0 in Oct./Nov. I would consider #0 a preview, almost a complete stand alone issue.

Then they will start with an on going starting in Jan with issue 1.

Gabe are those interiors to issue 0? I see it says "The Team" at the top, was this other work you've done, or was this the codename for the issue 0 project?

Tanner

PS: Gabe I sent you a PM.

Hi Tanner, this was for another project at another publisherthat I had worked on a couple of years back. I was just refering to the fact that I'd like a shot at the actual GI Joe comic but it hasn't come to pass yet and this was an example of what I could do with military themed work. I've worked at many publishers big and small, and this property has been very elusive. But with it at IDW, we'll see if I can pester them enough for a shot:).

Actually, I was at the IDW SDCC party thursday night, but me being the
social retard that I am, I couldn't get to "chatting" it up with anyone other than the crew that I was with, and they were enough of a show onto themselves.

I gotta say.. this really looks like it belongs in the Sigma 6 comic world.

Come on.. if Larry's taking over the comic again.. why is Duke of all people on the front cover? He really doesn't even belong in Larry's universe!!!!

I'm sorely dissapointed on all counts by this cover. I hate the artwork; hate the character; and it looks just ridiculous and exaggerated.

Anybody know is this to be a reboot, or will the ARAH universe that started in Marvel, and continued in DDP continue under IDW?

Cause I'm gonna puke if it's reboot, that ignores what came before.

Well get your vomit bag ready. It's a reboot. Hama said he wants to reboot the series to give a fresh start.

That will probably make a lot of people happy, but I would've liked a continuation. Some of the events & deaths in the DD run were not real popular, but it did add some realism. As long as there is a reboot, it should be a full reboot - a new beginning altogether. Taking out a lot of the Nam origins (and anything else that would date things), the TF crossovers (and anything else that is over-the-top sci-fi), everything that's happened & just start a new continuity altogether.

Like I said, I'd rather see things continue & to just accept the good with the bad, but rewriting things from some point in the middle doesn't feel right to me. Start completely over if the ball can't keep rolling from where it's at right now.

See I'm really sick of overall reboots, it's like a big kiss off to all the loyal fans that have spent their hard earned cash buying those books.

I mean if you want to redirect the book, and rotate cast in or out, or reorganize the team fine, but to simply take stuff and make it go away...that makes me mad.

I'm not sure how much I'm gonna enjoy this series.

John Missal

To do a reboot, they'd have to completely redo all the characters, and there are too many fanboys (no offense if you are one) that just can't get over who the characters are. Like me :-)

Honestly, I think that if they move forward with it as a redo, then they need to let the old joes retire, and introduce a full line of new guys and not keep doing the same characters even if they are now back to 25 years old rather than aging them. Retire Hawk, Duke, Snakes. Allow Kamakura, Firewall and the like to take up the ranks and rebuild with entirely new structures in a 21st century format where Cobra is relying on a new generation as well. Don't give us a younger rebooted Snake Eyes. Give us a new commando that fought in Desert Storm, served in Afghanistan, and call him something else...

John M>(tired of reboots and comic aging...)

Haha, about the golden arrows, I didn't even notice 'til you said it.

I'm happy they are doing a reboot, but I don't like this cover at all. It's too cartoony for me, and I really hope the series does not look like that. I have never gotten into any comic before, and I would like to get into this one.

If you're gonna judge a book by it's cover then judge it by Ben Templesmith's variant cover...

I think I'll be picking this up. I used to read the Devils Due book and stopped reading them around issue 25. My one buddy still picked it up and I have read the trades. I am looking forward to starting Joe again with Larry Hama.

BTW I'm new here but I have been collecting Joe's off and on for the past 15 years.

^^^welcome to the boards^^^

As for the cover I gotta say it looks a little depressing. Any one that thinks you can fire a mini gun while parachuting should not be working on a military comic for any reason. The style really is not my cup of tea either but the again to each his own.

Cobras_Elite_WD

Yeah I'm sure that is just a cover and nothing too crazy will happen in the book itself. In all seriousness....I have parachuted with a mini-gun...who hasn't! HAHAHA
