Listings for the trade collections of Marvel's G.I. Joe run have appeared on Amazon.com. These will be produced by IDW (http://www.idwpublishing.com) (the current G.I. Joe publisher) and start being released in January 2009.

• Classic GI Joe, Vol. 1 (http://www.amazon.com/Classic-GI-Joe-Vol-1/dp/1600103456/) (Jan. '09)
• Classic GI Joe, Vol. 2 (http://www.amazon.com/Classic-GI-Joe-Vol-2/dp/1600103790/) (Mar. '09)

I hope the number of issues in each volume is the same as trades that Marvel published. It would be nice to pick up a future volume that starts out with issue #51, since the Marvel books ended at issue #50.

I've been waiting for this! Here's hoping they don't cancel the reprints. I'm torn between skipping the trades that collect issues 1-50 and picking up from there because I have the Marvel reprints or picking them all up to help keep IDW publishing them to completion.

I could skip the reprints up to issue 80something, but if they've got cleaned up art like the Marvel ones did, I'll definitely be picking them up, too. Well, I'll probably pick them all up anyway.

If the solicit for Volume 2 is correct about including the recruitment of Duke & Roadblock, then the volumes are reprinting at a different rate. IIRC, they showed up in 22 or 23, during the funeral of General Flagg, who was killed in issue 19, with 20 being a Clutch-centric story and 21 being the famous silent issue.
I would certainly buy these over again if the packaging is good and they give us a correctly printed issue 20. And for the price ($19.99 cover), 11 or 12 full color issues per volume is worth it. Marvel was milking us for $24.99 per 10-issue volume.

Thanks for the input. I was considering buying these but didn't know how deep ($$$$$$$$$$$) that would get. http://forums.yojoe.com/images/icons/icon14.gif

Gotta love Amazon's ridiculous pre-order discounts.
