Great review.

I just have to submit this concept to your Joeverse: Imagine that CGs are the MP's of Cobra. So, to have them at a secret desert base makes sense, because not only are they guarding the base from GI Joe, but also making sure that the criminally-minded Cobra soldiers don't try to cash-in on the secrets to any of Cobra's enemies. They would be there to essentially keep things in order. I suppose that's how I see them. They are like the body guards of high-command and top secrets.

This is a great set, but if they have any kind of success to build upon from it, then I hope the next Desert pack has multiples of less-specialized figures, like 4 Cobra Troopers, 2 Officers, and maybe one specialist.

...every once in a while I want something original. After all, G.I. Joe hasn't survived for twenty-six years by reliving the past.I agree that something original is great now and then. On the second issue, however, I'd say GI Joe has at least been severely revived by reliving the past a couple of times, and then slingshotting back into huge success. The base formula that made GI Joe a huge success in 1982 is still underlying there somewhere. The more prevailant that formula shows itself each time, the better the toys and mythos seem to do. They must be more successful now than ever, and they have basically been using 90% non-new character ideas. I'd say that these extreme figure sets were such a good idea, because they fit into that ideal. It's like they could have had their place in the GI Joe story all along, but just weren't added until now.

Once again, great review.

Are these the internet exclusive figures? Both sets are pretty awesome, especially for a quick army builder.

IMO these two cobra extreme conditions sets are awesome. Having both of them together makes a killer display. I personally think the arctic set is a bit more of a army builder as well as a little more appealing to look at. Something about the blues and big coats looks really kool. If you have the opportunity to get either or both sets, I think you will be happy whether displaying in box or out in a diorama.
