It's time for another YoJoe! giveaway!

With the coming of this summer's G.I. Joe movie (http://yojoe.com/television/riseofcobra/index.shtml), now more than ever people will be getting interested in the G.I. Joe brand. But many will have no knowledge of the line as a whole. Well, what better way to educate them than with the "30th Salute" card set (http://yojoe.com/archive/tradingcards/30th.shtml) from 1994! It's kind of a cheat sheet of information about G.I. Joe's first thirty years!

And you can get a set for free!

http://yojoe.com/magazine/2009/06/images/30thcards.jpg

How to enter?

Contest is over! Thanks to all who joined!

Simply reply to this thread with a link to our archives for one of your favorite action figures (http://yojoe.com/toys/), comic books (http://yojoe.com/comics/), and collectibles (http://yojoe.com/archive/). Give us a short description why you like these things.

Does the action figure have a neat accessory or gimmick? Love the art or dialogue in a particular comic book (or just the cover!)? Does the unusual nature of a collectible make you smile? Let us know!

Yes, you have to link to all three areas, no they don't have to be your absolute favorite, and if there's something in the collectibles you have but we don't, feel free to mention it. In this case, add a picture of the collectible item to your post.

Sorry, no chase cards - just the base set will be given away.

The winner will be picked at random on June 20th, at 6 pm PDT. Feel free to enter more than once. Good luck!

http://yojoe.com/archive/lunchboxes/minilbox82.shtml this is the '82 mini lunchbox and I was able to pick one up a few months ago off craigslist for $10. I never seen it when I was younger. I think it is a unique item to come by.

http://yojoe.com/comics/joe/joe155.shtml The last issue of the marvel run I would have to say is one of my favorite comics in the line and there are others, but to see what SE has to think about what he has done for a living is just interesting for me.

http://www.yojoe.com/action/05/snakeeyes23.shtml This version of SE is the most detailed in outfit, weapons, and Timber. It was probably obvious by my site name that I would pick a version of SE, but there are alot of figures that I like.

http://yojoe.com/archive/mailin/steelbrigade.shtml - i remember filling this out when i was younger, and i felt like i was recruiting my perfect joe. i think this was one of hasbro's greatest ideas.

http://yojoe.com/comics/joe/joe73.shtml - this is one of my favorite parts of the marvel run. i loved the politics getting the joes involved in cobra's civil war. i didn't know who to root for, but i had a great time reading it, and loved the fallout after.

http://www.yojoe.com/action/86/beachhead.shtml - beachhead was always one of my favorite joes. anytime i needed someone to lead a "raiding party" he was always my go-to guy.

Man, the Commodore 64 was awesome, even though it took FOREVER to load a game from a disk... Before we had GI Joe on the Nintendo, we were able to play as some of our favorite characters on the C64. My favorite part was that S.N.A.K.E. coming after you in the streets and having to wait to "reload" to fire at your opponent. I also liked that it had different speeds for different characters. The only other game I can recall from that time that had different speeds for characters was Archon. I grew up with the graphics from computers and get really nostalgic when I see pixels.

http://yojoe.com/comics/yb/yb3.shtml
Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow working together with some help from Scarlett and Timber...what more could you ask for? Oh, yeah. You get a second story about Serpentor inventing the pizza, the covers from all the issues of that year, an update of what happened that year, some poster pin-ups...WOW!

http://www.yojoe.com/action/83/flash1p5.shtml
The first figure I ever had, Flash. I found him in the sand at the park and I have him to this very day. He "came" with an accessory pack Blowtorh helmet and I've still got that, too. His filecard states that he's taking night classes to get his Master's degree in electronic engineering...I wonder if that's why I took electronic classes in high school tech...

not sure if this is in the archives, but i saw it while browsing and thought it was a really cool collectible. a gi joe toy box... i've never seen one before, but i'd love to have one. if you haven't seen this yet, check it out. it's got a $700 price tag, but looking's free.

http://yojoe.com/comics/image/image1.shtml
the relaunch of the gi joe comic by image/devil's due is what got me back into collecting gi joe. i never really got into the original marvel run when i was a kid, but these books were really good and i got hooked all over again.

http://www.yojoe.com/action/92/shockwave3.shtml
the DEF shockwave has got to be my favorite gi joe from the entire line. granted, i like the original, but to me, this was the best swat guy of the two.

http://www.yojoe.com/action/85/flint.shtml and http://www.yojoe.com/action/85/ladyjaye.shtml. I know I only needed one, but they're just a matched set as far as I'm concerned. They have been my two favorite characters bar none for the last 24 years. I loved Flint because I relate to him. Our personalities are similar enough that I always looked at him as me in an alternate universe. And Lady Jaye I loved because of how tough she was and how she managed to maintain a balance between her feminanity and her professional veneer. She kicked butt and didn't take any crap from anyone and she knew how to keep Flint’s ego in line. I found myself liking those qualities so much that I married a woman who possessed those same qualities.

http://yojoe.com/comics/image/ddtpb8.shtml The Rise of the Red Shadows TPB. To date the only TPB that I've ever purchased. Not so much for the story which was riveting and emotional from start to finish, but for the Epilogue of Jaye's funeral. Characters have died before, but never did they capture the raw emotions of loss as they did from Flint's point of view. They really humanized the characters and made them as close to flesh and blood as a comic can. The gritty black and white images of the funeral intermingled with the sharp vivid colorful flash backs from Flint's memory of their life together. Anyone who has ever lost someone can relate and if they have not, that story truly portrays what one goes through at moments like that. It touched me.

Note: I hope with the new IDW Reboot that Lady Jay will live again and once again find a new life with Flint. As I said earlier, the two are a matched set.

http://yojoe.com/archive/lunchboxes/82lbox.shtml As an Adult if you want people to know what you like, you get a tattoo, or bumper stickers. When we were kids, you had lunch boxes. I loved these things. I chose the metal one because the metal one just has a more nostalgic feeling to it, though I did not actually get one until a couple of years ago and it is not in the greatest shape. I did however have one of the plastic ones and I loved it. I carried lunch in it as well as my Joes when I went to friends houses to play. I hope someday that Hasbro works with Thermos and releases some retro boxes for the collectors because I miss that lunch box.

My favorite comic is early in the series. Issue 3, "The Trojan Gambit" has conversation between Breaker and Hawk that always stuck with me.

Breaker, were there any serious injuries? Yessir! A half a dozed Cobra Troopers thought they had ol' Snake-Eyes disarmed! Shoot, General! He shouldn't be allowed to cary that thing in his boot--it's gotta be against the Geneva Convention!

http://www.yojoe.com/comics/joe/joe3.shtml

My favorite collectable is kinda lame but it is from my childhood and I wore them almost every day. They are not in the archives but they are just like this pair. The differences are that the straps on mine are cammo and the pad is green. Falcon is depicted the same as those but with an explosion back. Much cooler to a five year old:rolleyes:. Sadly I can not post a good picture as thay a currently packed and out of state but you can see them in the backround of this picture.http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c45/picollogoku/My%20collection/IMG_1516.jpg

http://www.yojoe.com/archive/clothing/suspenders.shtml

Picking one figure is by far one of the hardest questions you could ask. How do you narrow down 30 years of figures to just one. The one that comes to mind though is version 1 of Zartan. Yeah he came with a lame gun and his figure is based on a gimick but come on. He changes colors, and faces. How cool is that.

http://www.yojoe.com/action/84/zartan.shtml

Oddly enough I had a little over half of the card set as a kid until they were stolen at school:mad: .

Hard to pick one, but I'll go with this Destro, just because of it's controversial "Pimp Daddy" Destro variant. I was into Joes at this time and bought everything released that year. Who knows if I passed on a PDD without even realizing it

http://www.yojoe.com/comics/elite/elite25.shtml
I never read the Marvel comics when they were first out. But after buying a cheap lot of them, I decided to get the complete run. I didn't read the new Image/Devil's Due series either, but got the entire run (cheaply again) plus the Frontline issues after they were done

I still haven't read America's Elite, but I do have the Special Missions, a few Declassifieds, some of the guides and bought issue #25 (linked above) just for the artwork and insert. Just cool to see all of the characters together, especially the unused and forgotten

http://yojoe.com/archive/actfig/sf/preprod/ryucarded.shtml
I'm going off the board with a non-Joe item here. Why did I choose this? Because it's mine! :)

I don't know why I liked the Street Fighter figures. I was horrible at the video game, but the figures were Joes and yet, something different, so I got them all. However, the only Movie Edition figures I found at retail were Blanka & Bison. IMO the Movie Edition figures were better overall than the 1993 versions (which were officially Joes). Once I saw the movie versions, I had to try and get them.

I was lucky enough to snag a lot of MOC Movie figs in early 2003. The Buy It Now price was amazingly low, considering it contained the uber-rare Ryu Hoshi. The card wasn't in the best of shape (warped from storage) but I had one! As stated in the archive (http://www.yojoe.com/archive/actfig/streetfighter.shtml)

Note that while the Ryu Hoshi figure was advertised, it was never released to retail.
Hasbro even denied it's existence! Over the years, I've heard of about 4 samples of this figure being in hands of collectors. Another person claimed the Ryus were available in U.S. stores but no one bought them and they ended up being sold in the Philippines

A very rare, obscure (and many have said ugly) figure that is unknown to most collectors

http://www.yojoe.com/action/87/golobulus.shtml - Not just Golobulus, but the entire Cobra-La team. I've always loved the interchangeable backpacks for Nemesis Enforcer and the malleable snake body for Golobulus. This is the Holy Grail for my collection. I still remember the first time I saw the G. I. Joe movie. It was so awesome. We had just bought our first VCR, so I recorded it and watched it over and over again until the tape literally fell apart. Thanks God for DVD'sI have yet to find a MOC set that isn't ridiculously overpriced.

http://www.yojoe.com/comics/joe/joe136.shtml - As soon as I saw this cover, I had to buy it. Well, that and the fact that there was a card included with it. I was big into Joe comics, but I just had to find out why Scarlett and Cobra Commander were teaming up.

http://www.yojoe.com/archive/tradingcards/impel.shtml - I was 12 when these came out and I did everythig I could to get my hands on the complete set. I still have them to this day, but I'm still missing a few. Speaking of which....I'm gonna go pull out the old 3-ring binder. Yo Joe!

http://yojoe.com/comics/joe/joe45.shtml This was the issue that really got me started collecting comics in general and is still one of my all time favs.

http://www.yojoe.com/action/82/snakeeyes.shtml The first RAH Joe I ever got. Still have him. He just looked(and still does) really cool.

I don't have a pic handy and couldn't find it on the site, but the Palisades Cobra Commander statue from a few years ago. It was different from the toys since it is more of a collectable which made it cool.

This is my favorite figure in all of the 80's line. I remember having this figure and getting a sense of absolute evil for what the cobra organization was. I wanted to be this guy. Not only was he the elite of the cobra divers, he was the demon of the oceans!

http://www.yojoe.com/comics/joe/joe64.shtml

I love conflict in the cobra organization. I love this comic because for once it is not just the main characters that are fighting, but instead a "no body". I remember having this comic when I was younger. I know that Hasbro has reprinted it in a figure 2 pack. For the joy of being young again, I'm currently searching for it.

http://www.yojoe.com/archive/nottoys/messkit.shtml

This is my favorite collectable. I never had one. Did want one, but never had. I like this because it is the staple of every boys dream, or at least mine, that one day I would have been a G.I.Joe. This would have been the first tool to get you there. Later, I found out that the team doesn't exist. Sad... But I think it is a fun way to get kids out of the house.

For me my favourite was the 1984 Rattler. The whole plane to me was cool and Wild Weasel still remains as one of my favourite characters, but I didn't manage to get one 'til 1989 when they were sold here in England, so I was too old to play with it :(. But I used to tell my then girlfriend that I was not playing with it I am cleaning it..! A ploy that works with My Mrs now...:D

http://www.yojoe.com/vehicles/08/rattler/

Action Force Issue 1 was a favourite because this is when Real G.I. Joe Tales were printed for us limeys, before this we had to contend with Battle Action Comics which were ok but nothing compared to the real G.I. Joe comics..!

http://www.yojoe.com/comics/af/af1.shtml

Action Force Game. I had this back in '88 for my Spectrum 128. I barely got past the first level but it was Action Force/G.I. Joe and was a must for me at the time.

http://www.yojoe.com/action/83/snowjob.shtml

I was always into the figures with the most accessories. Not like the later years where they just piled guns and swords with a figure just for the heck of it, but ones where each piece could fit onto the figure all at once. (What's the point of having 5 guns if they can only hold two at a time?)

This Snow-Job just fascinated me with all the things he came with; and they all fit onto his backpack! Drove my young mind wild. The only bad thing about this figure was that you really only got to play with him a lot in the winter time.

Fortunately, I live in an area that got a lot of good snows in those years around his release and even to this day, whenever I see a good snow coming down and covering the ground a part of me wants to pull this guy out and the Polar Battle Bear and just go to town in the yard.

-----------------------------------------------
http://yojoe.com/comics/joe/joe21.shtml

Hands down, it's Silent Interlude. Just the concept of telling an entire story with no words opened my eyes to there always being possibilities to doing things in different ways.

I've still got the copy that I bought in 84, and it's the most pitiful looking thing you ever saw. It's been rolled up and stuck in my back pocket and laid down and traced over a bunch of frames (mostly that last shot of Storm-Shadow.) I don't believe in paying for autographs, but I would pay to get this crumpled thing signed and then framed someday.

This issue, and specifically MY issue, define what it means for something to be both worthless and priceless.

-----------------------------------------
http://yojoe.com/catalogs/85/

The highlight during my Joe collecting years was always when I'd get a vehicle and it came with the new catologue. What's more, around here, there always seemed to be a few of the next years figures and vehicles come out early, just before Christmas. So when I'd get a new vehicle, getting the catologue with it was like getting two separate presents.

The one from 85 stands out among all the rest though. That cover is just so iconic! (83's gets an honorable mention for it's awesomeness too)
Seeing all these new characters actually in the dirt and poised for action was just such a spark for my imagination.

These things were like works of art for me. They were different than the comics, in that they didn't tell any sort of story and yet within each picture you could fill in your own detailed mission of what all is going on.

That was always the saddest part for me as the RAH line was winding down was to see these books start to lose their specialness and originality. I always half-kidded myself, thinking if they did come out with a line in 95, the catologue for that year would just be a sheet of white paper with a text listing of the figures and vehicles.

I would like to have some off-the-wall answer that would make you go "oh yeah, wow I can't believe somebody brought that up... that is great!" but I'm not really good at that. So, I'll just list my big three.

http://www.yojoe.com/action/83/cobracommander1p5.shtml
The quintessential Cobra. I choose it because it's my favorite figure and because I need to say something about him. I've said it before, and I will say it again... The original CC was not far fetched at all. When people defend the newer stuff and say "oh how can you not like this [insert ugly thing here] and call it unrealistic when you like Cobra Commander who was totally unrealistic". Well, Cobra Commander was only very slightly sci-fi... He's the leader of a prominent paramilitary organization and he wears a sleek simple blue uniform and obscures his face behind a mirrored armor faceplate. There's nothing cooky about that. It's classic and cool.

http://yojoe.com/comics/joe/joe2.shtml
THE comic that started it for me. I've never been a comic guy but when I read this I knew where my Joe story canon would come from... I'm a marvel comic Joe guy, that's it. The cartoon was funny sure and theres other stuff but all the characters came alive through thse comics for me.

http://yojoe.com/archive/games/joenes.shtml
Kind of an underrated NES classic in my opinion.

http://www.yojoe.com/action/82/breaker.shtml

Breaker was my first action figure, I was 8 years old. G.I.Joe changed my interest from cowboys and indians to soldiers. Shortly, after that purchase, I knew I would be in the Army. Here I am all these years later, in the U.S. Army and have been for what seems like 25+ years although I did not join ROTC until 1992, 10 years later.
Even though Breaker did not come with a rifle, machine gun or pistol, he seemed awesome, he had the radio headset. My brother got Short-Fuse a few days later. Shortly, after those two figures, we both were spending our $2.00 a week allowances on G.I.Joe. They were the basis for asking for more chores each week to get more money for our respective collections or the comics. Christmas and birthday wish lists were centered on the toy line. Learning the basics of financial management revolved around saving money for the Mauler tank. I collected G.I.Joe well into High School but stopped when the neon figures became the main stream although I made exceptions for Snake-Eyes, and anything October Guard.
I noticed the new line a few months ago while at the Command and General Staff College and bought everything I could find, researched the new release of the line and am hooked again.

http://www.yojoe.com/comics/joe/joe73.shtml
I loved all of the comics so it was tough to narrow it down to one. In fact, next week, I am digging them out of mother's attic to take back to Fort Bragg, NC with me. Issue 73, assembled the most bad a** team of Joes to recon Cobra Island. I replayed the invasion with my figures over and over again. I built bunkers, HQs and mountain fortresses with cardboard boxes, toilet paper rolls, duct tape and other found "junk". The toys I could never afford like the hovercraft or the Flagg were built too. My Flagg had bunks for 30-40 Joes, multiple decks, radar assemblies, control rooms, weapon lockers, foot lockers, and more. I burned it down on in the backyard after Hawk ordered everyone to abandon ship when it was hit by my Rattler multiple times. I think straight arms Snake-Eyes was the only casualty. He had lost an arm after falling out of the Sky-Striker's ejection seat and shattering on the sidewalk. I was unable to find his right arm and unfortunately, I had not learned how to kit bash figures yet. Done reminiscing.

http://www.yojoe.com/archive/cases/pocketpack.shtml
I think I had 3 or 4 of these carrying cases. I thought we had got them throw the mail-in points but the archive shows they were only found in the stores. They were not very good at keeping the accessories inside the case due to the molded belt loop but it made a great "ammo" pouch for when we pretended to be G.I.Joe. Of course that was a time when K-mart had a whole aisle of toy weapons ranging form 9mm Uzi cap guns to M16s that made shooting sounds with electronics or by pulling a charging lever. Good luck finding those realistic looking guns these days.

http://www.yojoe.com/vehicles/83/jump/

The Jump jet pack with Grand Slam was my first G.I. Joe toy. My Grandmother took me out to Toys R Us and one of the reasons I went for that toy was because my Grandfather was a WWII veteran named Joe. Like most kids of the time I was way into the fanfare of the military. My Grandfather had been an MP and always used to tell me tales about how he gave tickets to Generals, guarded Truman and escorted high ranking POW’s, so when I saw a figure that looked Grandpa and was called G.I. Joe I had to get it. Unfortunately when I first became an adult I sold my toys off not realizing my Grandparents would pass on so soon. Thanks to eBay and Yo Joe.com I was able to by it once more from time to time I display it as a reminder of more simple times with my Grandparents.

http://www.yojoe.com/comics/joe/joe24.shtml

Issue 24 of Marvel’s run was my introduction into the G.I. Joe comic-book universe. My family had traveled over the Verrazano Bridge into Brooklyn to visit Ceasar’s Bay Bazaar. Ceasar’s Bay was an indoor flea market that sold mostly new items, which had moved into the then recently defunct E. J. Korvette’s. We came across a comic-book stand and there was issue 24 which had army men and a ninja on the front cover and in the 80’s ninjas were definitely in for young boys. As I bought the back issue and learned that G.I. Joe’s secret base ‘The Pit” was located on Staten Island where I lived that just sealed the deal I had to become a regular reader of this comic-book. Also I had just received the same Headquarters Command Center that was featured in the book which I though was real cool. Honestly even as an adult I think the whole cross promotion between toy, cartoon, comic and now video game is a really great idea as a parent now I have no problem getting my daughter her HSM dolls and such.

The Official Fan Club from the 80’s just really rocked! For a kid to get his own dog tags was wild and the news letter contained things like secret codes and data on Joe vehicles. I don’t recall how I lost my original newsletters buy once again thanks to YoJoe.com and eBay. I was able to pick up a number of the old newsletters that really rocked. I even got the entire membership kit in one auction although someone else’s name is on the dog tags. One of these days I’m going to frame and display my collection despite protests from my wife.

Flash is probably my favorite figure, aside from being a cool design and from the original year, he was the guy who made G.I. Joe a little more than plain old Army Guys. While the Science Fiction aspect of G.I. Joe might have gone too far, it helped G.I.Joe become G.I.Joe

This issue is one I really like if only because it's the end of when I enjoyed the comic. I'm a big fan of the 1982 and 1983 series and this feels like the end of that era, which is fine with me as it had excitement and drama

This is probably the best artwork representation of G.I.Joe, it's awesome

I was born in 1980 and I didn't get one of these until I was a little older, but I had always wanted one. I grew up in Toronto and I loved setting up my Joes in snow battle scenes during the winter. When I finally had a few Snow Serpents back in 2004, I did another snow battle scene with a buddy and the Snow Serpents were the last ones standing.

I didn't read the Joe comics as a kid, I was into other titles like Transformers, Spider-Man and X-Men. But this issue seemed to fall into my lap and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Little did I know that the Silent Issue predated it by 64 issues. Still, I thought it was pretty innovative when I first saw it.

This was my favourite episode as a kid, I always loved the idea of alternate realites. I saw this once on a family shopping trip to the Stateside Niagara Falls and picked it up. It brought me back 13 or 14 years and reminded me of how much I loved GI Joe as a kid.

Nothing about this figure (sculpt, colors, style) makes any sense. He literally looks like a left over from unreleased Police Academy figures, the Blue Oster wave. This is why he is awesome!

For those of us that liked to eat, breath, and sweat GI Joe!

What do you get when you combine GI Joe with a Nick Jr. Bill Cosby family program? You get this issue!

The busts and statues weren't the easiest things to find out there, but they were pretty neat to run into at comic shops from time to time.

GI Joe was the only comic I ever read more than a year's worth of issues. I've read all the Marvel issues and almost all of the Image and Devil's Due issues. I've got a couple more issues I'm trying to track down, so it will be done by the time I die... Some folks thought that there were way too many ninjas in GI Joe and I would have to agree at some times, but overall I enjoyed them and the storylines they brought. I loved Storm Shadow recruiting the Ninja Force.

There are so many figures to choose from. What an awesome toy line. Every Christmas and bithday I would get at least one figure and vehicle, then I would use any money received to buy more at the store. This one I picked out myself.
