View Full Version : Opinions on this ebay transaction
gsmiley007 02-20-2003, 04:27 PM Hi
I was wondering what is a reasonable handling fee?
I won this auction:
$55.56 + $13 (AIR MAIL and handling) + $1 (insurance) + $1 (paypal fee)
Actual cost of shipping: $6.35 + No insurance stickers on box.
Very little/no protection in Box. Prob caused a few of my pieces to break.

John Missal 02-20-2003, 04:50 PM Contact the seller about your problem. And also confront on the outrageous shipping. You can also send to Ebay, as overcharging like that on shipping and the paypal fee is not allowed according to their rules.

danyanda 02-20-2003, 07:16 PM If he does not refund your money (at least 8 dollars for overcharged shipping and insurance), then I would neg. him and contact ebay like John said.
Darth ball 02-20-2003, 10:18 PM I would just ask for a full refund. Looking at that pic, all i see is sonic guns, and early 90's missle packs.
gsmiley007 02-23-2003, 02:56 PM Hi

yes you won the auction. your payment will be $68.56...(without insurance) I strongly recommend paying insurance bec. I AM NOT TOTALLY RESPONSIBLE for items lost or broken from shipping....YOU SHOULD'VE READ DESCRIPTION ON HOW TO PAY OR SHOULDV'E EMAIL ME FIRST BEFORE YOU BID...PEOPLE ARE NOT COMPLAINING ABOUT THE $1 PAYPAL FEE...(IF PAYING BY IT)...

Hi
I received your items today.
However I have a few questions/concerns.
1. I paid for insurance, however I did not see the insurance label on the box.
2. I paid 13 dollars for s/h and I noticed that the box for shipping cost was $6.35, do you normal charge 6.65 handling fee?
3. In your description you said there was nothing broken, I found a few broken items in here.
Ps. I hope you don't take this the wrong way, I'm not trying to give you a hard time.

Hi
I haven't heard from you about these concerns for over 2 weeks. Since you haven't responsed, I will have to bring my concerns to ebay and leave negative feedback for overcharging and not having items as describe and paying for something I didn't get.

ImaWalkingCorpse 02-23-2003, 03:22 PM Report him to ebay and leave the jerk positive feedback
americamyhome 02-23-2003, 03:33 PM He clearly says in his auction terms that there will be a S/H charge. Unfortunately, by including the H, he's giving himself leeway to pocket the difference between the S/H charge you paid and the actual shipping charge he paid at the post office, and explain it away as "handling." Of course, that is a deliberately vague term which could refer to such things as, among others, the time and effort required to prepare the package and the cost of packing materials (whether or not these things are actually of any financial value to him). Therefore, I do not see where you have a complaint with regard to the dollar amount of the S/H charge. By bidding you agreed to pay a fee determined by him and because of the "H" you also agreed that some of your S/H money would be kept by the seller as compensation for his "handling" of your package. That, however, doesn't mean I don't think this seller is scum, but you shouldn't complain about being asked to pay a fee that you freely entered into a legally binding contract to pay. Instead, you should think hard before bidding in an auction if you don't know the S/H that the seller will charge. Or better yet, just ask him. I do that all the time.
On the issue of insurance, however, you do have a legitimate gripe. If you explicitly requested and paid for insurance, but the package was not insured, he has stolen from you the amount of the fee he charged you for insurance. You should let the world know this via feedback and file an appropriate complaint with ebay.

Scrapiron-Scavanger 02-23-2003, 08:13 PM I say you have a valid grip about your items 1 and 3, I would leave neg feedback to warn others about this that might not notice or know about not being able to charge for pay-pal. It might cost you a neg on your account, but explain it. Also he should refund some of the purchase price sense he did not insure it and some of the pieces were broken. Just my .02

gsmiley007 02-24-2003, 02:54 PM By the sounds of his last emails, I don't think he will give any partial refunds for damage.
I've send a question/comment about this to ebay and they don't seemed to be concerned that I was ripped off with insurance
rottenyolk 02-25-2003, 07:41 AM If I were you when: If I saw that there was no insurance sticker on it I would have emailed him saying "The item was damaged, to see his response about insurance." It's just to see how he WOULD HAVE respond.
But after seeing that what he said and about the feedback I would wait till the very last day to drop him a NEGative, Because he only leaves feedback after the person leaves it for him first.
I still think you overpaid on the lot, most of the items aren't even rare.
Just a question where is this seller from? The USE of FDNY in his email and location, sure doesn't make him friendly. Sounds like a wanna be fireman...or he's still on a 9/11 sympathy fix.
gsmiley007 03-02-2003, 05:50 PM The guys from brooklyn.
Do you have 90 days to leave feedback?
I did get some good pieces, but I also did get funskool stuff and 2000 stuff.

rottenyolk 03-02-2003, 06:25 PM Yeah if you want to avoid retalitory negs wait till the last 5 mins before it hits 90 days.
