Oh definitely! Thats partly why I bought it... well that and one can never have too many Decepticon Jets. The design though actually derives from an experimental variant of the F-15. I'm unsure if they ever converted or built the variant as a life-sized and operational l test aircraft, but a miniature mock-up for wind-tunnel tests was built

The Conquest was based on the X-29. Terradive is pretty much exactly an SU-47. So, their only real relationship is one is simply the evolution of the other. That being said, he is awesome! :)

Incorrect, the X-29 was based of of the Northrop F-5, a single engine aircraft that bares no resmblance to the conqwuest beyond forward swept wings and canards.

The desighn of the SU-47 meanwhile was only in it's infancy in the mid '80s

and while it does indeed look very simular, the aircraft the conquest was designed after was actually based on an YF-16 (sorry I mis-typed before and couldn't remember what it was called)

Sorry for any confussion from before

... And yeah, Terradive may actually be designed more off of the SU-47 now that I think of it

not to quibble but the x 29 is a single engine and the su 47 is twin engine (and tail) i think the su 47 is more like the conquest. anyway i may have to get one and spray it gray with black fins. I didnt get the snowcat but I am a sucker for jets Thrust is my fave (jet).
edit...blizzard beat me to it.

Blizzard, I'll give you the Conquest is closer to the F-16 test bed vs the F-5 based upon the intakes. That being said, the X-29 and SFW F16 were contemporaries with the SFW F16 losing to the X-29 for future development (the SFW F16 never existed beyond drawings). But since neither the F16 nor the F5 were twin engined/tailed aircraft, they were inspirations at best.

But we're arguing intangibles here really. The primary identifying features of the X-29, the Conquest and even the Su-47 and Terradive are in fact forward-swept wings and canards. But since the Su 47 is a real airplane and the Conquest is not - Terradive is based more upon the Sukhoi than the Joe plane.

It'd be hard to say for sure if the designer had a single real world aircraft in mind or an amalgamation of several. There are some noticeable differences between Terradive and the SU-47 that lead me to believe that he wasn't strictly meant to represent one. For example, Terradive has "swallow-tailed" (Outwardly canted) tail rudders and no horizontal stabilizers; while the SU-47 has vertical rudders and does have the stabilizers. Also the shape and relative size of the canards, the length to wingspan ratio of the entire craft are not congruent with the SU-47. But then neither are they really congruent with the X-29, the YF-16, or the Conquest x-30.

But Skinny's original post wasn't about these details, it was about resemblance, and I think we can all agree that there definitely is enough of one that it got our attention. :D
