View Full Version : 1984 Sunbow "model" binder and pics!!!!!
dryhawk37 02-04-2011, 06:55 PM Purchased this binder a few months ago. It ended up having some really cool pieces in it. It has suggestions for names for certain characters (Movat & Tavom for the Twins etc.). Wanted to share some of the artwork etc. that came with it. It also had some Larry Hama dossiers and a sculpture sheet for Keel Haul.

TOPSON 02-04-2011, 08:40 PM Awesome pictures Drew. Thanks for sharing. I really like that tactical battle platform.

YoJoeNCSU 02-04-2011, 09:01 PM Those are way too cool...awesome score. Its funny how each one I see I'm like "wow that looks just like the cartoon".
It's fun seeing the different details, like the HQ drawn underneath the GI Joe logo, or the big II drawn under the GI Joe logo on the Flint one. Any insight one that - was it from the 2d mini series you think?
Are those color copies or the original drawings that were colored?
yeti76 02-05-2011, 08:22 PM Wow! those are awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Janus 02-07-2011, 10:36 AM Nice. Thanks for sharing. Really glad they did nto go with his suggested names for the twins.
SnakeStorm 02-09-2011, 10:17 AM Wicked cool stuff man!

flintisnosnakeeyes 02-21-2011, 08:26 AM Pretty cool find. I like that Tomax and Xamot were almost called Tovam and Mavot.
JoeToyFan 02-25-2011, 06:50 AM Wow, congrats on that awesome piece of Joe history. Please don't tell me you bought that off craigslist. Whenever I look on there, I find people selling their ROC figures or the Pit for $100.00
Thanks for sharing the binder with us! :D
hotdog 02-28-2011, 05:20 PM I love seeing this type of stuff. Thanks for sharing with everyone and not hiding them away from public view.

Road Dogg 03-08-2011, 03:48 PM Those would be so perfect for the voice actors to sign. This stuff is the kinda things animation fans dream about...a perfect collection!
GothicZanya 11-09-2011, 03:09 AM is there a sheets of blowtorch, mutt, junkyard, ripcord, scarlett, duke?

Thanks a lot for sharing those treasures with us dryhawk
dryhawk37 11-12-2011, 09:05 AM These are the only one's in the binder but I do have some other Sunbow model cels that I can take pictures of. No Duke, Blowtorch etc. but most of them are from the Mass Device cartoon.

Cool Stuff - Thanks for sharing!
Was this from the Roger Slifer collection from a little while ago? I know he had some neat stuff like this going through Heritage Auctions, and I've been dying to see it.

Or nineties Star Wars stuff for $25.00+ per figure.
For every 100 duds, there's that one gem, though.
dryhawk37 11-14-2011, 07:39 PM Yes, this was from the Heritage auctions from a little less than a year ago. Most of the other lots went a LOT higher than this one did too. There were 2 other lots that I bid on but they went out of my price range but I'd LOVE to see what was inside. The auction had some horrible pictures so I had to bid and cross my fingers on what I actually got.

Cool! I spoke with Roger about some of that stuff not too long ago, and was really interested in seeing what all was in there.
I wasn't able to participate in the Heritage auction, so I missed out on this. But I'm glad you brought these here to share with us.
Too often, these get sold into the hands of a private collector and are hidden away until they wind up at auction again years later.
jason75 11-22-2011, 08:04 PM That is awesome. Thanks for sharing!
Son_Billy 11-29-2011, 11:15 AM Really nice binder! Where did you get that from? Now that is some vintage stuff!
Xavieur@aol.com 03-19-2012, 08:38 PM Amazing buy Drew. I talked with Roger after the fact. I'm sure if it had been from another more monitored auction it would have gone for a lot more so I'm sure for a crazy good price, all things considered.
Xavieur@aol.com 03-19-2012, 08:51 PM ...and the fact that there is so much vehicle art is amazing. Love that it combines both presentation art copies and other artists.
RussG 03-25-2012, 07:49 AM that's some awesome stuff for sure ... I wish more of Sunbow's items could be found on the open market like Filmation items are. Congrats on a sweet score
TheBigToyAuction 04-03-2012, 12:28 PM It's great to have access to Joe history like this - I would love to see a project for GI Joe like what the folks at the Power and Honor foundation are doing for He-Man.
It would be fantastic to see more of this type of history unearthed and preserved.

The joedeclassified booth at joe con for the last five years has displayed preproduction items for the attendees to view and discuss.
There has been some really awesome stuff.
