CobraLaLaLarry
05-27-2004, 09:58 AM
Actually, I'm more concerned about cancellations than who the new figure is. Are they cancelling anything major, like the new comic 3-packs? Please Lord let it not be so.

ChemViper
05-27-2004, 09:58 AM
They do not show the fig. picure. They mention the ID in the 2nd paragraph and show the full box cover.

are you gonna tell us or what?

ChemViper
05-27-2004, 10:06 AM
They mention that the 3rd wave of Mission Disks, 12" Beachhead and Venomous Maximous (as well as all future 12" VvV Joes). The 3rd 3 pack w/comic was pushed back to July.

What a cool figure! I had a feeling it would be a vehicle driver...now I wonder if it will be complete with the TF version of his vehicle?!? How much would that be? $1000??? :D

CobraLaLaLarry
05-27-2004, 10:20 AM
What was that about the 3rd wave of mission disk figures? Are those cancelled or just delayed?

ChemViper
05-27-2004, 10:20 AM
Could you imagine the scalping on THAT? I can't wait, now..Almost makes up for the in-bred Zartan clone cousins...

Sweet, Would not have guessed that figure for the third Joe.

ChemViper
05-27-2004, 10:32 AM
3rd wave of mission Disks "Will not ship this year" They were pulled from the line. It does not say whether they will be put back in down the road or not, but I would gather not. Hopefully the figures will be packaged in a different format. The mission disks seem to have been a dud here, so I am guessing the orders were low for wave 3.

i guess i would be more impressed if i like the tiger force. strange pick to make to the convention set though. this whole set has been a major let down. from the lazy thought of dreadnoks that look like hulk hogan to this new choice for the convention.

ChemViper
05-27-2004, 11:12 AM
I have always loved the Tiger Force set. Yeah, they are goofy and make better bulletstoppers than sneaky jungle warfare agents, but they were so much fun as a kid. I can live without the "Cletus Clan" but I am sucked in with the TF. Now, what will the vehicles be?

CobraLaLaLarry
05-27-2004, 11:23 AM
Bengal tigers with saddles and rocket launchers mounted to their backs

OK. That's good news. Well, those who wanted repros will be happy, but some might not be happy if they are indeed the exact same accessories (I've seen that subject debated here before)

He looks super goofy. I appreciate the fact that they use rare molds; it's just that the tiger force camo/colors look bad to begin with, and on him they look downright ridiculous.

I kind of like Mutt though, but again it's more the mold than anything. Those colors and patterns just look too bright and too goofy, especially to be crawling around in a swamp.

Is there any chance this figure isnt the last figure in the set? I mean really, it doesnt fit in at all. Maybe its something else that you can buy seperate at the con that has nothing to do with the Escapades in the Everglades set??? I mean it doesnt fit in at all. If you look at the shadow on the box, it looks nothing like him. It looks more like Wildbill or Recondo or someone else with a big hat. Not a big HARD HAT!! ARG This sucks. He is the last figure. No mind games being played on you. Personally, I like him. I know he seems like an odd choice for the last figure. But believe it or not, he does fit in. I have come to learn that MC doesn't just pull random figures for a set. Each one has a purpose. Hard Top has a story behind him which they posted in the newsletter. I'm not going to post the story because MC would probably not approve of that. Someone else will leak it.

I am really looking forward to the time when people stop complaining about this and realize that the set does not cost $200. Attending the convention costs about $150 and the set costs about $100. Divide that by 15 figures and it comes out to less than $7 per figure, which is not all that much considering the limited release and use of more sought after molds.
It seems like a lot of people feel that they have the right to have figures provided to them at cost. Remember 2002 when there was an uproar because you couldn't get the Crimson set unless you were going to Norfolk? MC did all those people a favor and made the set available even if you were not attending. So what if they didn't give you a price break, too. That was a huge bone thrown to people who could not attend. Then last year everyone who didn't attend threw a fit because the ATTENDEE EXCLUSIVE vehicle was not included for those who did not attend. And now the sets are just too expensive. Give me a break. If you want it, buy it. If not, don't. If you an obsessive compulsive completist there are many items out there that are worse than this set.

BTW, I like Hardtop and I think he was a cool choice.

Huh? If you're like me, and you aren't going to the conventions or can't afford plane tickets, they still charge over $200 for the set even if you're not going. This is the only reason I haven't bought these sets the last 3 years, is because of the overpricing. No matter what, you end up paying $200 in the end, whether you go to the convention or not. I typically don't have $200 to blow on a set that if it was sold at TRU would go for about $50.

I really don't think that's the point. They cost the same whether you go or not yes, but you get the priviledge of being able to stay at home and still get the sets at all which you can't do for a lot of exclusives hobby items (see Botcon or whatever they're calling it now, the Jorg Sacul figure, or the Keldor exclusive to name but a few). So why complain that you actually have to spend less than the people that go to the conventions (which you do since you're not paying extra for airfare, hotel accomodations, and food + sight seeing/ vacations costs) and not have to beg for favors or resort to ebay to get something at all.

quote:
Originally posted by Brian Kelly:

I don't really get thoughts like this... the sets aren't a surprise anymore. There's ample time to get together the money for the set. You can't save $200 in a year's time? That's less than $20.00 a month. Most people spend way more than that in a month at retail.

Iron Snake, my point exactly. They are not overpriced because they are CONVENTION SETS. People are getting a favor done for them by NOT HAVING TO PICK THEM UP IN PERSON (and they actually get shipped to you for $20 less than the con attendee packages cost).
I don't understand how everyone can think that because MC IMO works hard to get sought after figures for a special convention set that it should be available nationwide for retail prices.
If you can't afford it, I'm sorry. I could not afford the Crimson Strike team at the time. Would I love to have it, yes, but I couldn't shell out the money at that time. At $240 per set shipped for non-attendee sets, that works out to $16 per figure. You can order the set and one bagged set for $110, sell the figures from the bagged set singly at $15-16 each and get a set for $110-$125 (about $8 per figure). You could actually buy 2 boxed sets and 2 bagged sets for $700 (60 figures), sell 45 figures at $15 each ($675), and try to sell the box for $25, thus getting a boxed con set for the ebay fees and time it takes to do it. Even if the figures went low ($12 range) you could still get it for under $100. Throw it on the credit card and even if it takes you 2 months to pay it off you'll only pay $20 or so in interest.

Of course then everyone you sell to will be ****ed that you didn't give them the figures for $3 each, with free shipping and extra o-rings.

I wasn't complaining Iron Snake, just pointing out that saying they do not cost $200 when they clearly do is incorrect. There is no way to get them for less. I think you missed the point of my post, I'm not some bitter person jealous that others are getting something I'm not (like many people in the past), just pointing out what I beleived to be an incorrect statement. And yes, I could save $200.00 in a year's time, but again, that was not the point of my post, and I am not willing to spend that much on overpriced, mediocre sets anyway. Overpricing was my point, not my inability to save money. I can totally understand the posts made by other members about the price of these sets. Just because they're limited doesn't mean the price needs to be jacked up so high. But as long as people continue to pay it, they'll continue to do it. If they were cheaper, say half that price, I might get them. I've bought individual figures from the set each year from a few sellers at reasonable prices, but I doubt I'll ever pay the MC prices. But again, it's only my opinion, I'm not whining or flaming. And in the interest of not starting a flame war, I won't post again.
