So I can see from GI Joe #1 that The Pit had five levels. That was always cool to look at how it was laid out when I was a kid. The Pit II I have no idea how big it was, but I know it was bigger.

The thing is the Pit III was in the California Desert or something and it was supposed to be able to launch their Space Shuttle Defiant so it had to be pretty darn big.

A buddy of mine says that there is a 42 level secret underground installation here:

So I want to see what I can find on the Pit III and draw some corelations. It is just for fun and depending on what anyone can point me to could be good for some laughs.

Anything you can give me or even links you can supply would be great. The only one I found was www.myuselessknowledge.com (http://www.myuselessknowledge.com/joe/joehq.html)
this one. I am looking for more detail if possible. Thanks so much in advance.

PIT III was located somewhere in Utah. It was designed to be low-key, for instance the 3 quonset huts were all that indicated anything existed in the desert at all.

The center quonset sat over a trap door that had a stairway leading down into the PIT III, usually one 'joe was the only guard.

I don't remember any PIT III diagrams in the comics, someone will correct me if I'm wrong here. Most interior views seemed to be the hallway leading to the quonset hut staircase and the main staging bay, which held huge vehicles, such as the Defiant/crawler, and Thunderclap.

42 levels, maybe...
