Do you use G.I. Joe/COBRA, Hero Clix, other types of action figures, or even something else as Chess pieces? Which figures do you use as which chess pieces? If you've never done this, but would now like to, which figures will you use as which pieces?

I use G.I. Joes and Star Wars figures, sometimes. Here's a couple layouts of my custom Chess pieces:

G.I. Joe/COBRA Chess

COBRA (black side)

Rook - Zartan
Knight - Storm Shadow
Bishop - Destro
Queen - Baroness
King - Cobra Commander
Bishop - Major Bludd
Knight - Firefly
Rook - Tomax & Xamot (Since, Tomax and Xamot feel each others pain I use them as one piece. If I were to use them as seperate pieces, when my opponent captures one of them, I would automatically lose both of them.)
Pawns - Neo-Vipers (v6)

G.I. Joe (white side)

Rook - Sci-Fi
Knight - Snake Eyes
Bishop - Sgt. Slaughter
Queen - Scarlett
King - Joseph Colton (G.I. Joe, himself)
Bishop - Mustang (This is a custom figure I made from Shipwreck {v8} that came with the Piranha Attack Boat)
Knight - Kamakura
Rook - Mutt & Junkyard
Pawns - Action Marines

Star Wars Chess

Sith (Dark Side)

Rook - Darth X (Custom figure of myself as a Dark Lord of the Sith)
Knight - Darth Vader
Bishop - Imperial Dignitary Janus Greejatus
Queen - Asajj Ventress (I don't really want to use her as a Queen, but I'm using Mara for the Jedis, and there aren't a lot of female Sith characters around.)
King - Emperor Palpatine
Bishop - Imperial Dignitary Klen Blista-Vanee
Knight - Darth Maul
Rook - Darth Tyranus
Pawns - Royal Crimson Guards

Jedi (Light Side)

Rook - Plo Koon
Knight - Luke Skywalker
Bishop - Obi Wan Kenobi
Queen - Leia
King - Yoda
Bishop - Mace Windu
Knight - Mara Jade
Rook - Qui Gon Jinn
Pawns - Coruscant Guards

I like that setup, but I'd go with a few changes:

CObra pawns: CObra SOldiers

Joe Knight: Jinx v1
Bishop: With the Sarge as one Bishop it's only fitting to have the other one be THE FRIDGE!! lol
Pawns: v2 Mirages

wow.
ok i have been trying to decide what would work for this for quite some time now.
your suggestion of Destro as bishop is EXCELLENT!
i am having a hard time deciding on pawns, i think i would go with the grreen vipers as they are the total pawns of joe collecting- simple, easy to find. the neos are a bit too muscular i think.

for the joe side, i would use all 82-85 figs.
also, i would use 2 of the same fig for things like bishop and rook.
(2 destros instead of destro and Bludd)
bludd might make a rook, no i could do better- hmmm someone buff, maybe for that a neo? no. ARRRGH!!!!!!
this is why i dont have one yet, its a tough set up.

ok your star wars list is really perfect.
i like your joe side of chess also. joe colton as king!
ok but i would use hawk as bishop, duke as rook.
SE is a perfect knoight, action marines are great pawns!, soldeiers would work also.

I made a big Joe chess set for the 1997 show in Philly. Someone had pics of it on joecustoms after the Norfolk Joe show, because I brought it there as well. I had a few different setups for mine, where you could use CC or Serpentor as cobra king. If you used serpy, you could replace one of the other bishops with a battle armor CC, so he could still be on the board. The board was like 4 feet across. it is still sitting in my hallway upstairs right now. I have nowhere to set the thing up.

I know this was a long time ago but I have been thinking about it for a while and have a burr to put one together.

G.I. Joe / Cobra
King: Hawk / CC
Queen: Scarlett / Baroness
Bishop 1: Duke / Destro
Bishop 2: Flint / Zartan
Knight 1: Snake Eyes / Storm Shadow
Knight 2: Stalker / Firefly
Rook 1: Roadblock / Scrap Iron
Rook 2: Rock & Roll / Scrap Iron
Pawn 1: Grunt / Cobra Solider
Pawn 2: Short Fuse / Viper
Pawn 3: Steeler / Crimson Guard
Pawn 4: Zap / B.A.T.
Pawn 5: Flash / Eel
Pawn 6: Grand Slam / Snow Serpent
Pawn 7: Clutch / Alley Viper
Pawn 8: Breaker / Night Viper

This way the original 13 are in the mix and we have heavy machine gunners on the joe side for rooks. Along with the Joe top leaders Duke and Flint.

Now the question is for me... what's on the board?
