What's the one moment from the Joe comic that you just can't forget? Ok...maybe not one, you can list more than that, but let's say what are the FEW moments in the comic run that you remember so fondly--especially if you were reading it back then and absolutely did not know what was coming next.

For me, despite a ton of good stuff coming before, my moments are all right around issue #100...a little before and a little after.

The return of CC of course, "killing off" a bunch of Cobras, some memorable, some not.

Destro finally revealing his face to see this almost movie-star looking guy underneath plunk his mask down onto a motel bed and embrace the Baroness.

And of course...the SAW Viper killings. Doc being the saddest, for me. "They killed the Doc..."

Hawk & Roadblock enter an embassy to escort out the US ambassor while the entire 3rd world city is in the mists of revolution. A looter is about to set fire to the United States flag, and Roadblock politely ask him to stop destroying US property and vacate the premises. The looter spits on his head. Roadblock proceeds to stick his .50 cal in the looters face, and threats to turn him into a fine red mist if he doesnt listen to the first request. The looter yells out, "You're crazy! There are people walking out of here with IBM typewriters and you would shoot me over a flag?" Roadblock replies . . .

"Nobody ever died for a typewriter"

When Cobra tricked the Joes to drop enough bombs to cause the fault line under the Gulf of Mexico to become active and thus we had the formation of Cobra Island.

Ace and Wild Weasel saluting each other after one hell of a dogfight

The picture of Cobra Commander kicking a dog after his return from death. That always cracks me up. Sums up his whole character in one fell swoop of his boot :)

Yah that sucked how Overkill killed Doc just like how Draco killed Apollo in Rocky 4. What issue did Destro take off his mask cause i'd like to read it and sadly for CC in the next issue of G.I Joe he might have another long time away from the series whitch is sad. :(

The one moment that has always stuck out for me was in 48 I believe. Destro checking Stormshadow's pulse after being gunned down by the Baroness. That scene has stuck in my mind through all of these years.

Snake Eyes saving Scarlett's life by stopping a thrown sword by his palms just inches from her face. The sword was thrown by Storm Shadow in the Silent Interlude issue.

The Soft Master (I think) disassembling some punk's .45 and then buying it from him.

Beachhead and Scarlett (Or was it Lady J) killing a bunch of terrorists on an airliner. The scene in particular is Beachhead shushing a little girl while hiding in front of her seat.

Those are three off the top of my head. I don't have my comics with me (in storage) so I couldn't fact check. I'm sure someone will do it for me. ;)

Great memories, guys!

The issue where Destro removes his mask is #98 if I recall correctly. It has Rock n Roll on the cover.

98 is the one where the Original Cobra Commander comes back I think you mean 97 right?

The epic battle over Cobra Island. It's pretty hairy for the all the joes there. I don't know what cover it is off the top of my head but it has Roadblock,Tripwire and Snake-eyes all torn up and still shooting. Then after all they go through they have to just pack up and leave cause cobras lawyers make it legit. Between that and many of the battle of Benzheen scenes, I'll never look at war the same way again! Forget Platoon or Saving Private Ryan.

The deaths of Heavy Metal and Breaker in the Marvel run, it was a first in that series since they were figures as well as comic images...they had a "life" which was taken away.

Ditto for Flash and Mainframe in the Devil's Due run. Their last words spoken will sum up everything Joe stands for..."Mission accomplished."

Hmm for me, serpentor's death, the way it was scripted was cool. I just wish he stayed dead.

Mainframe and Flash's deaths were a moment that really put a shock thru me and agree their final words really do stand for the Joe team duty.

OK mine is lame since I have only read Reloaded (I know, i'm missing out on a lot) but my comic moment was when CC is describing how his wife left him to Storm Shadow. When he said she started banging her lawyer to screw CC into paying alimony, I burst out laughing for like 5 minutes straight. Poor CC.

The creation of Cobra Island. Then the Cobra Civil War.

GI Joe was the first medium that I got into that was continuous, the story kept going from one issue to another. That was a great way to sell comics. Kept me coming back month after month.

Too bad I didn't get that feeling with the new ones.

That Ace and Wild Weasel dogfight issue is a personal favorite of mine as well. I wish they could have a rematch in the current DD run. Surely Mr. Jerwa could come up with some way to get them to face off again.

boy its been a long time- ghost x that is a killer bit of story there!
the one thing that i remember actually feeling- there was all the anticipation both around learning the origins of SE and SS, the capture of CCmdr, but most felt was the death of General Flagg. that was harsh.

I hardly remember the Marvel comic--I sold many of them off 10 years ago.

But what scene I think stood out the most was, I belive, in issue 52--Quick Kick and Storm Shadow on a green background. QT and SS went toe-to-toe for like 10 pages, before Stormy won. But Quick Kick put up a hell of a fight.

I also liked the cover to, I think, #45--with Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow on the cover, weapons drawn.

And I could never forget the page (forgot what ish) where they finally showed Snake Eyes' scarred face; the sad look in his eyes still makes me feel so much for the guy.

I just recently read the entire Marvel all the way through. Events that pop out at me:
- Soft Master sacrificing himself to save Candy & Billy only to have Scrap Iron kill them anyway
- Snake Eyes only? word: S-S-S-S-Scarlett
- any issue in which a Joe died or were buried or their grave's were visited
- unmaskings of Snake Eyes, Cobra Commander and Destro
- when CObra Commander vowed to give up his evil ways for Billy only to be shot by Fred VII
- Vietnam flashbacks involving SE, Stormy, Stalker, Wade, Ramon and Dickie
- issue 152: about how GI Joe was founded by JFK (his last act in the Oval Office before leaving for Dallas)
- issue 155: closing of the Pit and Snake Eyes' poignant letter to Sean? Shaun? Collins

It was more like 10 seconds, if that:)

SAW viper killing Doc is the moment for me, as well. Doc was my first figure ever, and I'm still mourning/pretending he never died.

There was a story story at the end of a Joe comic (I can't remember what issue) that featured Snake-eyes and Scarlett stopping at a store to buy some powder for Snake-eyes's mask.

The first store they stopped at didn't have the powder, so Scarlett left for another store that was close by, leaving Snake-eyes to look at magazines. A couple of robbers come into the store, and kill one of the clerks.

I remember laughing my *** off when Snake-eyes took out one of the robbers by cramming the magazine he was reading in the robber's mouth. Then hides behind the counter, and squirts lighter fluid on the other robber's back and sets him on fire.

As Snake-eyes and the surviving clerk are leaving the store, Scarlett pulls up in her car, looks at the store on fire, and says something like "I'm not even going to ask"
Making it sound like this sort of thing happens to Snake-eyes all the time.

I always liked that scene with Stormshadow begging Snakeeyes for help, and forgiveness. That was my first comic, and I still have it.

Oh so many good memories most have been already said, but here's a few more:

The death of Quinn.
General Flagg's funeral.
Snake Eyes, and Stalker visit the Vietnam memorial.
The final battle for the Pitt II.
Stormshadow escapes Alcatraz.
Zartan's story about his swordsmith apprenthiship.

There's more but it's late and my brain doesn't work well on a normal basis.

The more I think back on the Marvel comics.. Special Missions was by far my favorite of the two titles.

Lightfoots breakdown after being tortured.

Outback escaping from Borovia (I think) in his underwear at one point. And having to leave Stalker,Snowjob and Quickkick behind.

The death of the Oktober Guard. Horrowshow and Brekhov's morbid joking after being riddled with bullets. One of the joes commenting on one of the guard getting shot to pieces on his way to hitting the rail switch but still accomplishing his goal... "That man was dead on his feet."

Another great one.. Flint trying to put the make on Lady J, and getting interupted by an Eel.. Then Flint kicks the tar out of him. Yee Haw..

I think you got it wrong (unless you are referring to another issue) A squad of Eels beat the tar out of Flint while Lady J goes for help.

Man, you guy's are bringing back some great memories! I remember really small, insignificant things about life in general, so it's no wonder my Joe memories are no different. All right, first, the silent issue. There are three things that stick out to me. When Snake Eyes is jumping out of the plane, he just looks so determined and unafraid, it's just something I see. He's saved her life so many times, he's not about to let her go down like this. Second, when Snake Eyes encounters the red ninja that is at the top of the stairs, and he just casually lobs a grenade at 'em. Always stuck out. Third, the last panel, Storm Shadow just standing there. I always wondered " did they know who each other was?". Besides that issue, the Soft Master's death, and a special missions issue that was mentioned earlier and Beach-Head says something along these lines " I'm no gentlemen and I have no compunctions."
Boy I tell ya, there are alot of great moments in those old comics, but that silent issue is just full off 'em to me. Sometimes words just get in the way.

Mike I think you're right. Flint did get beat up. But I thought he gave out some punishment too. My collection is in storage so I'm typing purely on memories that are 18 years old. ;)

Flint whooped those eels! My big moments were Scrap-Iron killing the candy and the soft? master, and when Outback came back alone from boravia and Leatherneck jumping on him about leaving them behind. Those were some tense issues.
