Restoring Paint on 3 3/4 Figures?

I have no intention of selling the figures from my childhood, but I would like to touch up the missing paint areas. Does anyone have suggestions on how to paint the figures without leaving brushstrokes? Also, does anyone know what type of paint was used on the figures at the factory? If not, which brands or types of paints should I use?

I guess no one has more information than what some old threads cover. Surely someone out there has touched up their figures paint.

For little parts, like vintage cobra soldier feet or belt, i use a black permanent marker.

I have used that trick many times with great success

I tried that once, but it did not look right. Thanks for the input though!

I have other colors than black that need restoring too. From my internet research it seems there are two brands of model paint that people use for near-factory results. Any additional information will be appreciated. My Spearhead figure looks like he is suffering from androgenic alopecia!
