I've never been able to come up with a decent reason why I though he would wear the black over his eyes. That's as good a theory as any.

Hmm well football players wear it to reduce glare and sunlight does rob him of his powers. Maybe part of it has to do with that? Lone Ranger fan? Bad guys wear masks?
