Me and my wife were just wondering, how long was it supposed to take to get from Fellowship to Return of The King. Like did it take year? A month?
Thanks guys

I think it was 2 years in New Zealand.
I don't think he meant how long to film it, but rather how long the story was.Originally Posted by Royal Zarak
yeah I believe he had just wanted to know how long the story was, which was a little over a year if I remember correctly. A difference from the book to the movie that I always found interesting is that in the movie, the time gandalf tells frodo to keep the ring secret till the time he comes back and tells him he has to leave the shire is a few weeks or months. In the book, this time frame is something like 15 years......

I just watched ROTK this weekend and it says at the end. I thought it was a lot less than 15 years, more like 3 or 4 year. I don't know though.

actually I meant in the first one (fellowship) in the book, the time bilbo first gives frodo the ring and gandalf tells him to hide it, to the time gandalf comes back and tells frodo he is in danger and needs to leave the shire is 15 years. In the first movie they just kinda glance over that as if it took a few months or so. From that point, the gist of the story from fellowship to return of the king is about a year - year and 1/2. I can't remember what is says at the end of rotk, I'll have to check it out later. thanks for giving me a reason to watch that GREAT movie again, the wife will be thrilledOriginally Posted by dockingbay97

in the book from when frodo gets the ring from bilbo to its destruction is about oh roughly 40-50 years something like that now from when frodo leaves the shire to the destruction of the ring is right at maybe a little more than a year
hope that helps
in the movie it is 13 months, cause frodo says 13 months to the day they've returned to the shire.
In the book both Bilbo and Frodo shared the same birthday. When Bilbo turned 111, Frodo turned 33 which was the age when a hobbit is considered an adult. Bilbo left and Frodo got the ring, but he was 50 (17 years went by) before he and Sam left to destroy the ring. Frodo was the same age as Bilbo (50) was when he set off in the book The Hobbit (kind of a parallel thing). After they left it was roughly 1 1/2 years until they returned to the Shire…God, I am such a nerd.
