'87 Road Toad What the heck's it supposed to do?

I ask these questions 'cause I have never owned one.

Is this contraption used as a separate vehicle?
Or as a tow hitch connected to another vehicle?
And how is a vehicle being towed supposed to be positioned on top of the Road Toad?

Any suggestions?

I'm gettin one in the mail soon, so have never played with one before. But yeah, it is a tow dolly for damaged vehicles. I think it was a great idea and it will fit in nicely with my display. It has wheel indents for the damaged pair (front or rear) the undamaged wheels will still roll.

i like the concept of it, but it would be better if it had its own means of mobility.

The Roadtoad is a pretty neat little vehicle. Its no good on its own though. I have two, one is towed by my bridgelayer and the others is towed by a 2001 Brawler . Smaller vehicles like the Vamp, Awestriker, and the Stinger look good with them being towed. In my Universe right now the Joes have captured two Cobra stingers and Clutch, Tollbooth, Crankcase, and Steeler are escorting the captured vehicles back to base to be converted to Tiger Stings. I think its a pretty good concept.

You had me rolling there for a minute mirage-army. hehe I never liked the vehicle as a kid, and I'd like to stick to that same opinion even now.

To me, it's purposes seem like for vehicles that DO break down (as already stated) or even for the capture of Cobra vehicles, like from a small battle front. Just imagine a line of Cobra troopers, or Vipers even, marching in two single-file lines with their hands on behind their heads, while that Road Toad's towing a captured vehicle and so forth. Kinda cool, but I still think it's a pretty worthless contraption... not being independently mobile, as far as not being able to tow any vehicles without the help of another vehicle towing the Road Toad itself.

The Road Toad is actually self-propelled, guys. The front wheels flip up and lock when it's being towed by something else, but it can move on it's own as well. Not that it'd get far but that's not really the point.

These blue prints indicate that the front tires are merely support tires, while suggesting the rear are "SMOOTH ROLL." My guess with that description is that there's MAXIMUM ZERO RESISTANCE (needed for better towing purposes) for these rear tires in the harshest of road conditions, while towing this booger on or off the road. You can hardly tell from the blue prints, but there isn't any plastic moldings on this toy that would indicate that the Road Toad would have it's own engine to be independently mobile. The only motor on this contraption is the winch motor which is the 250 bhp "STUMP PULLER," primarily used for towing capabilities, and that's the ONLY motor that the blue prints indicated for this contraption.

I could be wrong though... Does anybody else have any thoughts on this vehicle?

I agree, no way could it move itself and another larger vehicle, it wouldn't have the horse power. I don't even think it has a drive shaft, its just designed to tow.

Ok... but you're wrong. #10 on the blueprints, the "vehicle access hatch", is the engine. If you look at the instructions you can see it clearly. Also the box art depicts the vehicle's independant motion and you can read the catalog description which says, and I quote: "This self-propelled repair and attack vehicle is capable of winching most vehicles onto its platform!" I'm not saying it makes sense, because it doesn't, but that doesn't change the fact that the Road Toad can move on its own.
