I'm thinking about getting into the 80's comics that corresponses to the Sunbow cartoon in the 80's. Can someone help me by what is the best approach to complete the entire 80's comics. For example, are there different issues or versions or series. Or the comics goes by month and number.

They follow a completely different storyline than the cartoon. The main series has 155 issues, its good for the first 135 or so.

I'd also recommend the Special Missions series, which follows the same story arc, but usually showcases the Joes fighting other terrorists than Cobra.
