    Talking Great Stuff.

This is exactly the type of poll I expected. I expected this to be closely run as there are obvious pro's and con's for both aircraft. Whilst I appreciate the Rattler is primed and well armed for a combat scenario does this mean its cobra's deadliest?

My argument in favour of the Night Raven is this.. supposing you wanted to take out two major cities.. and your cobra commander.. you have 2 choices..
A Night Raven has 2 Missile Toxin pods capable of holding the chemical weapons.. 1 pod per city..
A cobra Rattler.. with its regular load could cause alot of damage in a city.. but would be no where near as deadly as a tactical chemical strike by a Night Raven..
Also.. if one looks at it from a GIJOE point of view.. supposing your at a defence outpost.. and your intel sources suggest cobra bombing in your area..
If you had to pick which plane you could fight against from the ground.. as an ADA soldier like Rampart I'd think the rattler would be your choice.. why?
    1) You'll hear and see it anyways on its arrival
    2) whilst you might not appreciate the rattlers armaments the design of the aircraft means its exactly a ground attack jet they do tend to fly lower which as an ADA specialist gives you a greater chance of a target.

The Night Raven can go to altitudes an ADA specialist wouldnt be able to lock on from... drop down a chemical load and be out of the same fly zone before the skystriker or conquest even powers up... dont get me totally wrong.. I think the Rattler against the Raven in a head to head dogfight the Rattler would so beat it.. but we're talking about Cobra's deadliest.. a plane that can go undetected on radar and drop chemical weapons.. versus a plane you can see and hear on arrival.. I know which aircraft I voted on
    I sometimes.... can be awesome?

Well, Rattler can be filled with chemical bombs as well, carrying even more of them than the Night Raven, fly at a low altitude to evade radar, throw them and escape in time for the pilot not to be affected.

I've always felt that the Night Raven had a lack of bombs and missiles. Sure, it is a high-altitude, silent, evade-radar plane; can cross half of the orb without being noticed and reach any spot; and it is very cool, too BUT, the toy itself is missing almost another pair of missiles on it.

Yet, I believe NR can be deadlier than Rattler.

My vote is for the rattler. This is more of a combat plane whereas the Nightraven is more of a superfast spy jet.

I'm going with the Rattler as well. As said before the Night Raven is good for recon while the Rattler is meant to take stuff out.

    Night Raven all the way.

I'm sure the Rattler is scoring lots of points based on the nostalgia factor (you know- it came out first, so it has to be better).

I love A-10 Thunderbolts, but the stubby Rattler just never really did it for me, especialy when you consider it's poorly designed and flimsy landing gear.

The Raven was just so big, so sleek, and so indimidating that, as a kid, I just fell in love with it. I also think of it as more of a high-altitude strategic precision strike/recon aircraft (the equivalent of the Joe X-19 Phantom), rather than just a recon plane. And it's included figure was just about perfect (though the Wild Weasel figure is no slouch by any means).

Two different animals altogether in my opinion.

Each is more successful in their respective roles.

With that, I think the Rattler would be more useful and destructive for Cobra, with it's SVTOL capability combined with the loads of bombs and cannon. The Rattler could be serviced from very inaccessable locations and launched fast for close in firepower (and being a cousin, imo, to the A-10 it will take more AA fire). Versus, imo, a Night Raven would be great high up, and for pin-point attacks. But being based on an SR-71, imo, it would be a much higher operation cost (both $ and time) to get the destructive capability that a Rattler could bring.

I agree here, the Rattler is really a rather flimsy toy. I always just really wanted it, being Cobra blue and featured in comic and cartoon very heavily, but when I got it (as well as the Joe A-10), the landing gear just killed it. Plus, the tight cockpit that really only fits '82-'85 figures easily, does make the night raven my favorite out of the two. I still think the Rattler Concept would be a more successful aircraft. Now, we just need some proper redesigning on the Rattler...

I think the rattler is one deadliest aircraft in cobra air fleet due to its pay load and weapons. I own the orginal rattler and the 2002 rattler just look deadlier . Now my raven I use as a delivery vehicle for special personal and for longrange recon and topsecret attacks.
