\r\n GH\'s dress blues hat is just glued on; it\'s not part of the mold. (It looks like he has unpainted hair underneath, so not that attractive.) Mine simply came off when the figure fell onto a hard surface back around 1990, so I treat it like a removable accessory.

\r\n I\'ve seen the question asked quite a few times, but I\'ve never found the answer: What size are the torso screws in a 3 3/4" Joe?
    \r\n
\r\nI know that the screws are 1/4" stainless steel, pan-headed sheet metal screws, but I can\'t tell the diameter. If I measure in metric, they look like #2 screws and if I measure in inches, they look like #3. Short of buying a micrometer, does anyone know where I could find this out?\r\n

I\'ve actually done this with success. A warning about Storm Shadow: the red emblem with become bright pink.
    \n
\nI went to sally\'s beauty supply and purchased the 40% peroxide (i forget what they call it, just look for the big 40%) and then I got some oxy clean. You mix the two together and put it in a clear container and set it out in the sun for 8 hours and you\'d be amazed at the results. I forget the ratio of oxy to peroxide but if you go over to the hisstank forum i think they have it. If not the computer geeks use a similar technique to whiten the computer plastics. Just run a google search.\r\n

    \r\n Hey Guys,
\nRecently I noticed you can color over the shoulder and elbow rivets with a Sharpie- it doesn\'t seem to rub off, either. Obviously a drop of lacquer would be a safe bet.
\nSharpie has REALLY expanded their color palette too, so odds are you\'ll find something that works!\r\n

I would be carful doing it this way. I have found it best to put the waist and legs together, squeeze the o-ring down into the t-hook area and then use a little flat tip screw driver to get it in the hook. Doing it the way you\'ve mentioned above has led to a few "crotch" pieces flying across the room and a really nasty feeling in the pit of my stomach.\r\n

\r\n It\'s possible, but not terribly easy. Here\'s one I did with Ninja Force Scarlett several years ago:

\r\n I take it you are referring to the broken o-ring situation? I do believe that you can fish a larger o-ring over the top of where the original o-ring would be and attach it to the t-bar. I\'m not sure how accurate that description is, but I thought that was how I have heard it done.\r\n

I might try a thinner, longer o-ring that could work! I don\'t collect them but I think I have a few good ones to sell. I would disclose the fixing before selling though.\r\n

\r\n After some thought and experimenting I found a solid way to repare the fixation points on the Defiant crawler where the 2 springs attach to the elevating beams.
    \r\n
\r\nPictures say more then words, so here goes:
    \r\n
\r\nThe part should look like this originally:
    \r\n
    \r\n
\r\nPerhaps because of the (continuous) stress over the years, or just improper use of the crank (anyone any ideas?), these fixation points are often found broken. To make the fixation point really solid, I removed the broken piece altogether and made a hole in the elevating beam to enable placement of a hook that\'s held in place with a screw. This hook is the kind that\'s normally used as part of a system to hang paintings on the wall. This is how the elevating beam looks with the hook in place:
    \r\n
    \r\n
\r\nIn order for the spring to stay attached in the raised mode of the gantry (this is the mode in which the springs are more or less in a relax position), I just used some tape with a solid piece of ... (just about any material can be used) in it to fill the gap of the hook. I\'m sure there are other ways as well, but this works just fine.
    \r\n
    \r\n
\r\nThe size of this hook shortens the distance between fixation points a bit, which reduces the stress on the opposite fixation point (i.e. the grey bar to which the other end of the spring is attached, not visible in picture).
    \r\n
\r\nAs a final note, my entire Defiant rests on a piece of board (1,8 cm. height), on 1 end a piece of wood (5 cm. height) is placed on top of the board (so 1 end is 1,8 cm. and the other 6,8 cm. height). The board itself is 32 cm. long and wide (square). It\'s a simple and effective way to keep the crawler wheels in good shape:

\r\n I need new screws. Not only for my own stuff, but a bunch of mint/near mint figures I want to sell.
    \r\n
\r\nThe replacement screws from GIJoeHeaven stink.
    \r\n
\r\nSomebody told me you can buy identical leg/back screws at home depot. Is this true?\r\n

\r\n Anyone ever try to fix thumbs? I tried one time using this car fixing goo that hardened into a plastic like substance, but it didn\'t always stick. I also had to cut down and sand the pieces. It didn\'t look pretty but often the figures could hold weapons again. Personally I\'m more about functionality than aesthetics.\r\n

\r\n I had delusions once of melting a pin into the broken spot of the thumb and using Games Workshop\'s "Green Stuff" to sculpt a new thumb on top of the pin, but I never got past the brainstorming stage.\r\n

\r\n I just swapped out the lower part of a vintage. Not sure if this method had been done like this but this is what I did. I took arm off the figure. Held top of arm facing up. I then took my drill and with a small drill but I hollowed out the top of the rivet. I then took a very small flat head screw diver and carefully bent in the rivet edges. I then flipped over the arm and with some needle nose pliers I pulled the rivet out very slowly I used a small amount of pb blaster so it would come out smoother. I swapped out the lower arm that had a broken thumb with a perfect lower arm. Then I very carefully pushed back in the rivet. You will have to take some pliers and wrap the ends in tape as you will have to snap the end of the rivet in as the center has like a swell in it to keep it from falling out. Once the rivet was in I then took the same small screw driver and flat end back out the rivet edges. BAM. It worked and I have a perfect arm. \r\n

\r\n Don\'t have pics of process but this is the best I can do of the finished product. It was done on my v1 firefly. I purchased 2 one was in real good shape but had a broken thumb, the other was in crappy shape but had a perfect lower arm so that\'s why surgery was performed. Lol any way I hope the pics help.

\r\n I started something new broken thumb repair with sculpting clay. It\'s like a plastic type super hardening clay. I will be sculpting thumbs, sanding them to look like original, and then painting. This is pic of thumb sculpted in raw stage no sanding or paint.

Are you doing this with hopes they will hold weapons? Or is this for display purposes only? I can\'t wait to see how it finishes up. Great job so far!\r\n

\r\n Are there any good methods to touching up the paint on old figures? I don\'t mean a complete custom job, just a touch-up to hair/uniform/boots that have been scuffed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

\r\n Quick one on loose rotating arm joints: Can the lower arm be safely pulled off? What\'s the top solution? Going with Elmer\'s for the easy fix, for now... I have a Steel Brigadesman who needs rehab.\r\n
