I remember seeing this on Futureweapons a few times on the Discovery Channel. When I saw the German PzH 2000, it reminded me of the Cobra MAGGOT. It's not in two pieces but still kinda similar. Here's a few links to see it:

Who edited the wiki on the Flagg? You link to the yojoe listing of the Flagg from the overhead above the tower perspective. The number on the deck reads 66. That is the number not 99. It is the tower number that is wrong not the deck. Go to http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/s...nsh-l/cv39.htm and look at some of the pictures such as this http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/i...000/h97440.jpg
You can clearly see how it is read. By your logic then that carrier would not be 39 but 63. Which it is not. Anyone who has been on a carrier knows this. The box and instructions are incorrect or maybe they printed the number on the deck wrong but according to the deck it is 66 not 99.

And on the tower, you can see clearly that it is number 99, so what's your problem? Obviously Hasbro made a mistake, but common sense dictates that they wouldn't have made a mistake putting the number on the tower itself - the mistake was on the flight deck. I think that with a bit of reasoning you can see this to be true. It's a lot more logical to assume that they would have mistakenly labeled the deck (not everyone knows how the numbers should read, UNLESS as you say, they have worked on a carrier) than the tower (everyone knows up from down). This has already been discussed...

Thumbs down Get it? LIQUIDator?? GET IT?!?!

MOAR from me. Must keep the thread on topic...

    The REAL real-life RAM!!

    Rock N’ Roll = pwnd.

I like jets. Specifically military combat aircraft, so I can ID a few of those.

The 1992 Storm Eagle ATF was based off of the YF-23, the losing prototype to the YF-22.

The other water squirting plane was the Liquidator (groan) ATF. This sexy little black number was based on the J-35 Drakken, made by SAAB, the same folks who built the sedan in your accountant's driveway.

(Lovely pic, but rather large. Like you don't know what an F-16 looks like!)

The X-19 that Ghostrider flew bore striking similarites to the F-19, an imaginary plane based on what some folks thought the stealth fighter was gonna look like. Instead we got “The Hopeless Diamond”.

Oh! The 1991 Hammer is totally based of a Hummer. I’m sure of it. Heh.

Also, anyone have any ideas about the Condor? Never had one but that design is beautiful.

Excellent stuff, AK and Mr Rage. Dually updated. I was hoping someone else would point these aircraft out, but I thought there were more. I think the X-wing chopper is based on something real. I also think the Condor design is inspired by a flying Q-tip.

I didn't add the swampsmasher, but I think you may be on to something with that lunar rover prototype thingie. If they ever did an off-world GI Joe vs. Cobra toy line (Mars, Moon, etc.), I bet that swampsmasher would be a great patrol car.

TheDoctor: You may be a little too attached to the USS America, and it doesn't seem healthy. I agree with you that it would be more logical and accurate for the deck numbers to face the other way as per the real carriers, so that approaching aircraft can ID their home ship. However, for the box art and the toy itself, it works better the other way around. The number is 99 due to the fact that it is far, far less likely to make that mistake vertically. The end.

You know, I always thought the Equalizer was a 2S6 Tunguska, but it could also be this, a German Gepard:

I am not attached to the USS America, I am attached to acurate information. Unless Hasbro has release an offical statement I do not know what is right. All I have been trying to say is according to the deck it is 66 not 99, which if it was a real carrier would be true. Who is right we may never know. The guys who designed the package and did the instructions may have misunderstood or maybe the guy who set up the printing on the deck. Who knows. I just want people to know the right way to read a carrier number.

The X-Wing Chopper is heavily based on the Sikorsky S-72:
