\r\n [QUOTE=Artic Fox]Looks like this seller on ebay is selling the fakes as originals.

    \r\n
\r\nYep! It has the unpainted rivets and the elbow rivets stick out. I like how the seller made it a private auction, so that the bidders cannot be warned.

\nHere is the current link, to the SS fakes. Also, many more auctions for one or ten in a set. At least the seller gives the buyer a close-up of the "made in china" rear shot. As we all know, a real SS is made in Hong Kong. So if you are a buyer and are expecting the real deal, you are stupid.\r\n

You are absolutely correct, these were made in China!! But they are not original 1984 SS that were distributed between 1984-1986
    \n
\nDude, come on!! You own a resale store for pete sake. So what are you saying? That a 1984 SS could have been "made in china" as the back of the crotch says. Because I looked at the back of my "real" SS and it clearly says "made in hong kong". I don\'t recall Hasbro fully licensing a 1984 SS "made in china". I do recall Hasbro fully licensing figures from about 1988, untill they started making them in Indonesia.
    \n
\nThere was already a thread on these SS and Viper Pilots that were clearly fakes.\r\n

You are absolutely correct, these were made in China!! But they are not original 1984 SS that were distributed between 1984-1986
    \r\n
\r\nDude, come on!!
    \r\n
\r\nThere was already a thread on these SS and Viper Pilots that were clearly fakes.

You cant compare the Storm Shadows to the Viper Pilots and Cobra Soldiers. Two completely different topics. To be honest no one even knows the origin of the Pilots and Soldiers other than they are considered fakes. The Storm Shadow made in China is a legitimate variation made by Hasbro post 1984.\r\n

Ok, where are these legitimate variations made by Hasbro post 1984 in the archives. I know of one unique example, of this. I believe Belgian or Dutch SS were made for a convention, they were bagged not carded, not sure if they had weapons. They would have been exactly like the real SS "made in hong kong" during the 80\'s.
    \n
\nThese are clearly fakes. They may not be made by the same people who are involved but they would fall under the same bootleg forum. If you look at the pics, especially the arm rivets, they are fakes. Here is the discussion link, that talks about the SS knockoffs.

Thanks for the example!! I did not realize this.
    \n
\nBut, I still believe these auctions to be fakes. If you look at the arm rivets they are clearly silver and jut way out of the arm. In the pic you provided, the rivets do appear to be brass colored like the ones produced for the us. Also the facial paint is a different color. This is my judgement based on pics in the auction and now the link you provided. Also as stated by other members of YoJoe on the thread provided.\r\n

\r\n I\'m erring on the side of Bootleg with these. Considering the unreal quantity and the fact that the seller has yet to show any packaging, US or otherwise, I suspect the seller is withholding information. Why can\'t he at least provide pictures of the damaged packaging, if it exists? If these are licensed Chinese SS figs, then the auctions are still fraudulent as the seller lies about their origin.
    \r\n
\r\nI\'ve learned from the Transformers bootlegs of \'84/\'85 figures, which are made starting by reverse engineering authentic figures, it\'s that bootlegs are never 100% identical and the packaging has the most imperfections. These characteristics are apparent here, and I\'d rather be safe then spend good money only to discover SS is a cheaper reissue or a bootleg. I\'m sure many buyers who have been grifted by this seller would agree.\r\n

\r\n I have some information that might be helpful in identifying the new reproduction Storm Shadows.
    \r\n
\r\nLast year (2008), I bought some of the reproduction carded Storm Shadows (on reproduction Chinese cardbacks).
    \r\n
\r\nRecently (2009), I bought some of the reproduction loose Storm Shadows that have appeared on eBay (after I realized that they were indeed reproductions)
    \r\n
\r\nBoth the 2008 and 2009 reproductions are identical... except for the cobra symbol... which is more well defined in the second run.
    \r\n
\r\nI have taken some pictures to show comparisons with the original 1984 release.
    \r\n
\r\nIn all the pictures (except where noted), the original Storm Shadow (and SS pieces) are on the left... The reproduction Storm Shadow stuff is on the right.
    \r\n
    \r\nI hope these help:

I have some information that might be helpful in identifying the new reproduction Storm Shadows.
    \n
\nLast year (2008), I bought some of the reproduction carded Storm Shadows (on reproduction Chinese cardbacks).
    \n
\nRecently (2009), I bought some of the reproduction loose Storm Shadows that have appeared on eBay (after I realized that they were indeed reproductions)
    \n
\nBoth the 2008 and 2009 reproductions are identical... except for the cobra symbol... which is more well defined in the second run.
    \n
\nI have taken some pictures to show comparisons with the original 1984 release.
    \n
\nIn all the pictures (except where noted), the original Storm Shadow (and SS pieces) are on the left... The reproduction Storm Shadow stuff is on the right.
    \n
    \nI hope these help:

\r\n Aire, that has got to be, the, by far, most comprehensive crushing blow to the bootleg industry when trying to push those Storm Shadows off as real. If you get to see the detail of the figures and compare to a known legit item as you have done, then there is no comparison. The \'08 and \'09 Storm Shadows are truly fake. None of them has the dots under the chin of the snake.
    \n
\n Now to play devils advocate for a second, I glanced at the Cobra Trooper auction linked on Page 1 of this thread and while it said it was an 82/83 Cobra Trooper, and I can easily tell it isn\'t a REAL one, there is a gray legal line that could be drawn. The guy could have been trying to say it is a duplication of the 82/83 Cobra Trooper and even though he didn\'t clearly state that, he might get away with it in court. That\'s what sucks about this. People taking advantage of gullible people who don\'t know any different. If I hadn\'t started re-collecting Joes 2 years ago, I never would have known the difference, but my alarms would have gone off if I had looked at the price of other Cobra Troopers on ebay and seen the difference. The Cobra Trooper in the auction has too much of the circle joint on the shoulder showing and the black on the boots is too much of a matte finish compared to the slightly shiny black on a real Cobra Trooper. It seems too thick too. But, again, I wouldn\'t have known had I not seen a real trooper recently. The face too is a dead give-away.
    \n
\n Last, I actually like the fakes to the point we can army build with them. If these dudes just posted that they were customs or something like that, then collectors would\'t be up in arms about it and they may actually embrace the fakes as something cool to add to their collections. I bought a fake Star Wars Episode 2 Clone Trooper in 2002 (you know the marching ones and the ones in firing poses) on purpose because I thought it was so cool! I was told they were fake (you can easily tell), but I liked it enough that I wanted to support the ingenuity of the deal and I wanted more army builders in a time you just couldn\'t get them. Guess what? We can\'t get 82/83 Cobra Troopers as army builders. How can we do that? The fakes. But if they aren\'t sold as such, I don\'t want to bid or buy simply on principle. Hasbro may have an issue with it if the figures are sold as repros, but I don\'t think they can truly stop it now that there are so many people able to have custom/repro stuff made. Star Wars vintage repro weapons are abundant. I have seen 2 or 3 websites selling repro Joe stuff. Then there is Marauder who sells ORIGINAL kick *** weapons and gear for Joes. A guy like that is a god-send to the collecting community as well as Hasbro. He isn\'t stepping on toes because he doesn\'t make repros, and he is promoting displaying your Joes in a whole new light as well as customizing, which causes all of us to do what???? BUY MORE JOES.
    \n
\n Sell the fakes branded as such and this will all go away.
    \n
\n I wonder who actually had them made? Someone in the US? Or overseas? The world may never know.
    \n
\nThanks for listening guys and gals.
    \n
\nMay your collections be as complete as you want them to be. And Aire, you kicked some major butt here. Good on ya! Education is key. (BTW, we need a comprehensive Joe collector guide that covers international stuff and actually has GOOD pictures, anyone know one?)

I have reported it twice to ebay two seperate auctions and all they send is community watch thanks for your efforts emails but do nothing to remove it. I have also sent the link to hasbro fraud department. When people alert you they are selling fakes, I still it think it is bad, because there are too many people who will buy the reproduction item and pass it off as original and not enough people including myself know any better.\r\n

I don\'t think it is same guy unless they have a set up on east coast and west coast and 2 different ebay accounts. The guy who got banned doesnt seem like he sells fakes, it appeared to me from what I read that he was a victim of buying fakes, a little jerky too but who knows everyone has their day I guess.

it looks legit I wouldn\'t know unless you had it open. It could be vintage arms on a bootleg. I would have to see if that works without issue. I will try it\r\n

\r\n I just want to know how in the *** do people make these? This is the "2nd" time now I\'ve heard of fake Viper pilots floating around, so now I\'m even more curious.
    \r\n
\r\nWhat, ..do they have like thousands of dollars and bought the original molds from India or some other country hasbro sold them to..?
    \r\n
\r\nBut yeah.. it makes me sick too hearing about people getting jipped like this. It\'s sad.. but has me curious.

\r\n not sure but as a community we all have to do what we can to have these items banned on ebay, it will only damage sales.
    \n
\nthats why I dont get the support the reproduction accessory/weapons/mics/vehicle pieces get. In a perfect world everyone who bought repro items would fully disclose they were repro items if they sold them, but that isn\'t reality. The people get in and get out switch names do the same thing make money, once the trust is gone the value will go way down.

They would have been exactly like the real SS "made in hong kong" during the 80's.

These are clearly fakes. They may not be made by the same people who are involved but they would fall under the same bootleg forum. If you look at the pics, especially the arm rivets, they are fakes. Here is the discussion link, that talks about the SS knockoffs.

There is a legitimate variation made in China that is NOT A FAKE !
